The Impact of the Tang Dynasty “The future depends on what we do in the present” - Gandhi. Have you ever wondered what life would be like if Karl Benzin hadn’t created the first car, or Thomas Edison hadn’t invented the light bulb? Things that we take for granted now, were once a dream, an idea, a plan. The inventors probably had little idea about the impact it would have on the future. 4,000 years ago people wouldn’t have even dreamed of things that we take for granted now. But many of the people back then had ideas and made decisions that affected the future of the world. Around 3,000 years ago in China, the 3rd of China’s dynasties occurred. This dynasty is called the Tang Dynasty and is often referred to as the Golden Age because of its great advancements. The Tang dynasty was the most impactful of China’s Dynasty because of the cultural advancements, economic growth, useful inventions, important studies, and government code changes that took place. The first reason why the Tang dynasty is the most impactful is that many cultural advancements occurred which affected the future culture of China. For example, a form of novel was created called Chuan Qi. This type of novel had a complex storyline and often reflected real life. These novels later became the basis for future stories (“Tang Dynasty”). In other words, the novels created in the Tang dynasty influenced the structure of future stories. Another example of the Tang dynasty’s cultural impact is through poems and
Regarded as China’s golden age, the Tang Dynasty was a period when China’s culture thrived. There was a multitude of religions during this time, especially in the capital, but the main beliefs were Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism. In addition to the abundant culture, the Tang dynasty government was increasingly powerful. Written examinations for government officials were becoming common, ensuring that officials were well-educated. The location of the capital at Chang’an, a large trade center, also contributed to the success of the dynasty. Chang’an was, in the words of S.A.M Adshead, “A magnet alike for politics, economy, society and intellect. It was the centre of the world order.” Additionally, the Tang dynasty witnessed the first Empress

In the 2,000 years of the Chinese dynasty system, China influenced many neighboring areas. There were many changes in China’s influence on neighboring areas in the years between 600 CE -1200CE, including who was in power of the tribute system because many nomadic groups were stronger than China and the increase of Buddhism in Japan because of China's influence; however, there were many continuities, such as the symbiotic relationship between China and the nomads because the nomadic groups provided safety along the trade routes.
The Song Dynasty contributed the most over all the other Dynasty’s by taking what the Tang Dynasty created and took it another step further to make it prosper and advance above all the others, all while making the Chinese elites smile. “One of these was printing. At first, printers used a separate carved wooden block for each page or column of ideographs, but by the eleventh century, they had developed moveable wooden type, which sharply reduced the cost of printed material.” (Alder & Pouwels 2015, p. 243-244). The next thing, Tang developed gunpowder for the use of fireworks, however, Song took it further in the development process and used the gunpowder as a weapon for their military. The list of inventions and developments goes on, such as; water pumps, locks, higher levels of trade, steel & ironwork production, bronze casting (artistic and coinage), and printing technology (first printed paper money). The proof that Song Dynasty is recorded throughout history, within my quotes from our textbook, how many things they developed and improved, the growth of the cities during this reign, and finally, look how long their reign was before they were conquered compared to the
