Over time, transportation has shown to have an incredible impact on the United States. It has revealed to bring about economic and social changes in various ways. Americans were aware that if transportation advancement occurred, it would potentially increase foreign trade, increase land values as well as strengthen the American economy. Second, the development of new public transit systems, was important in shaping the design of our cities and the growth of our cities by enabling people to move further away from the inner city. Early on, large cities didn’t really have public transportation. Their main source of transportation were horse drawn wagons and walking. In conclusion, most people lived near on in the downtown area, where most of the working establishments were located. Because of this, it made big cites crowed and congested. With the breakthrough of the “el”, electric streetcars, and subways, around 1867, cities began expand more. Those who were fortunate enough to move out of the dirty cities and into better neighborhoods surrounded outside the city, did so. The new transit systems in most cities allowed people to escape the chaos of urban life and provided potential for growth of our cities.

The United State has always been weak in public transportation and mass transit tools. California was once supposed to be different and revolutionized. Trolleys connecting the suburbs to the city and business districts was the main reason why cities expanded vertically. These mass transit tools organized the transits in an extremely environmentally friendly way. But the venue of cars and the thought of independence flattered americans pushing them to each buy a car, synonym of their independence. Now the trains and connecting public transportations have practically disappeared and are irrelevant.

Moreover, public transportation is mainly common in means of transportation in and out of NYC due to the convenience, cost, and efficiency of public transportation. It has become more easily accessible due to having subways in nearly every other block,which is cheaper and faster. Public transportation is faster than driving into the city at times since it escapes the traffic on roads since it is underneath. Public transportation contains buses,trains,and light rails as well. Once again, automobile and the city of tomorrow can coexist, but it is not ideal in today’s

Without the automobile trucks would be unable to bring food and other important items to the cities. Another reason the automobile has changed society for the better is that it has created many jobs that revenue millions of dollars yearly due to the different types of jobs such as building highways, truckers delivering items from state to state and busses that people for daily. There are many ways that the automobile has changed the history of it, rather having it become a necessity into every day life. It has become a personal admiration toward some groups of people collect them.

As the time progressed highways and roads started to improve. Airline industry started to grow and this made the rail road passengers to decline slowly. From the picture below we could see how the railroad traffic started to decline.

Public transportation is beneficial to our communities by providing a solution to traffic and the havoc it causes on our lives. Public transportation can carry way more people per hour at full capacity than the typical single-commuter car. Freeways with cars that carry on average 1.2 persons per car in medium traffic (around 30 mph) will only carry 1,080 people per hour. At max, a freeway can carry 1,800 cars per hour and that only results in 5,400 passengers per hour if there were 3 passengers per car. Technology have greatly impacted the transportation field and in effect have completely changed the way the human race travel, the way goods are shipped and the economy of every developed nation. Technology in transportation is not something new, technology have continually had in impact on travel and transportation. This impact can be see ranging from the Viking “Longships”, which were very fast for their times. These Longships facilitated the Vikings expansion and helped them conquer new lands that were hundreds of miles away from their homes (Vikings: Vikings at sea). The railroads in the 1800’s also were a new form of technology, and this technology provided an opportunity for individuals to move farther west to new lands and new opportunities that they never thought would have existed. In our day and age, technology will continue to have a massive impact on transportation.

I imagine the world will have more changes especially in the field of technology. The technology will change our life enormously. The latest technology that exist today such as bendable smart phone amazes me. This bendable and flexible smart phone was developed by Samsung. In addition, the existence of 3D printing, enables users print 3D shapes from 3D pictures. What will happen 50 years from now is a huge transformation with more new inventions, innovations and designs. Future car technologies will be beyond our imagination. Transparent instrument panel of future cars that use OLED technology will give better range of vision than other dashboards. Another possibility is Vegetable-based components. The body panel of the car will be based on vegetable, meaning having “organic design” in order to reduce weight, developed by Honda. But huge problem will happen at the same time. Reserves resources like petroleum will be depleted from year to year. Petroleum is the major power used in many transportation these day such as train, car, automobiles and trucks by converting it to gasoline and diesel. At the same time, 50 years from now air pollution will increase because of these transportation. Thus, the government has to take initiatives to reduce resources such as by increasing its price in order to discourage more consumption of fuel, thus reducing air pollution and conserve petroleum to safe future generation.
