The Affordable Care Act has caused some controversy throughout the US population. Individuals have different opinions about its benefits. Some argue it will not be successful, while others believe it is one of the best things to have happened. I do believe the Affordable Care Act will help us improve our health care. I will speak about Prevention/Wellness Coverage of Preventive Services. Under the Affordable Care Act, private insurance plans are required to cover preventive services without any patient cost-sharing. Preventive services help to focus on wellness, early detection and prevention in lieu of treatments and cures. Grandfathered plans do not require to meet the same norms as for the plans that individuals bought after that date. In order to be classified as “grandfathered” the plans cannot make substantial changes to their coverage. It is expected that over time almost all plans will lose their grandfathered status. The preventive coverage for children, adults and women must be covered without having to pay a copayment, co-insurance or meet a deductible. This only applies when these services are delivered by a network provider. “Insurers now must cover evidence-based services for adults that have a rating of “A” or “B” in the current recommendations of the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)” (Private Health Plans under the Affordable Care Act 2014). A letter grade of “A” or “B” shows that the panel finds there is high probability that the services have a substantial or moderate net benefit. “Health plans must also provide coverage without cost-sharing for immunizations that are recommended and determined to be for routine use by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.” (Private Health Plans under the Affordable Care Act 2014). There are 15 covered preventive services for adults. The preventive services for children and adolescents include some immunization and screening services, behavioral and developmental assessments, iron and fluoride
