Teaching Philosophy Statement Every teacher has their own philosophy and their style. They believe their philosophy, themselves, and students’ abilities. They must have been inspired by brilliant teachers, in other words, they had favorite teachers when they were students. My favorite teacher was an English teacher at my junior college in Japan. When I was a high school student, I was looking for a junior college to enter after graduating high school. I took the teacher’s trial class. When I first took his class, I was moved by him. Japanese conventional English classes are teacher-centered, and teachers ignore what students need to know and interest. I also believe in Progressivism because Progressivism’s education is based on the needs and interests of students. Conventional classes teach grammar and high-level reading books. English is an exam subject in Japan. Students do not learn English as a communication tool. Therefore, they cannot speak English. My lesson plan is talking easy English at class. Japanese English textbooks are far different from daily life. Students need to speak conversational English in class. They need to express their feeling in English. I want them accustomed to thinking in English. They do not think their thoughts in English; therefore, they cannot express their feeling in English either. It is more important than reading an English book. Well, reading is important to improve English, but a level is important. Japanese tend to read difficult reading such as high school level in the United States. But what they need to is read books an easier level such as elementary books. I have been to elementary school as a part of my Education class requirements, and I went to a fourth grade class. My classes are reading and mathematics classes. As a future educator, it is the my job to educate all students through means of teaching that enable students to be successful in health, fitness, leadership, character development, and accountability for their regular lives outside of school.
I see students as the next generations’ heroes in so many fields. In my vision, I have to inspire students and prepare them with confidence, knowledge, experience and skills. Which means I encourage, communicate, guide, teach, and assess students in order to enrich their infrastructures.
Like many others from my graduating class, I left college and headed for the fast track world of law and finance. After two years crunching numbers, juggling real estate projects and emerging from Black Monday in October 1987 relatively unscathed, I realized I hated my job. Landing a teaching position at Fessenden School became a watershed event in my life. Looking back over the past years, I fully realize that teaching is an essential part of me. Michael Thompson, once said, "There are some teachers who are effective and know why, others who aren 't effective and don 't know why, and a third are effective, but aren 't quite sure why." After five years at Fessenden, I felt like the latter. Therefore, I decided to attend graduate school in order to become a more effective educator. Theory, practicum, and research aside, graduate school was an epiphany for me. It confirmed in me that leading a school was more than a choice; it was a calling.
Every person has his or her idea of what education should be. One wants to be educated or go to universities so he or she could have a higher degree. Some other person wants to get education just to fulfill one's self. Many people get college education thinking that they can make more money. Education is not about money; it is a lifetime process that enables one to satisfy one's inner self. It makes a person feel good for who they are inside.
Education is defined as the lifelong process of acquiring knowledge, skills, and values through either formal means, such as schooling, or informal means, such as firsthand experiences or vicarious experiences gained through reading books or discussions. Every person that is or wants to be a teacher has his or her own educational philosophy. We all have our own views, methods, and curriculum that we were taught when growing up. A lot of people may have the same teachers in school, but all of them learn different things from that teacher.

After completing this teacher interview activity, I am beyond excited to become a teacher. I feel this way not only because Heather strongly agrees that teaching is an optimal choice of a young person today but due to the passion she possesses for her job. As Heather described her classroom and what it is like to spend all day with children, I just cannot wait until I am teaching. Children have this undeniable excitement about them; everyday is a good day, as they do not have a care in the world. I hope this positive outlook on life with fill my body everyday just as it has there’s. Ultimately, what I am most excited to do is make an impact on a child’s life. There is no greater feel in the world that knowing that that you have helped someone. I hope that I will make an impact on every student I have so that they can think back and say, that teacher changed my life. I know that this profession is not going to be all fun and games or that everyday will be a good day but I am up for the challenge. Impacting the lives of our nations youth is completely and totally worth it.
My motivation for teaching is setting the goal to make a difference in a students life. The feeling of teaching a child a lesson, and them understanding it, is a rewarding experience for a teacher. I have also been a babysitter for about 6 years, and being around children makes me happy and I love the relationships that I have built with all the kids I have cared for in the past. What really motivated me to go back to school for teaching, was this past summer after having the opportunity to be a camp counselor. While working at that day camp, the relationships and bonds that formed throughout the summer, are ones that I am never going to forget about.
In the movie The Matrix, Morphis says to Neo “I can only show you the door, I can’t open it for you.” The door that Morphis is talking about is this incredible vast knowledge that is unknown to Neo. What better person to show, to teach, to inform Neo than his teacher, Morphis. You see, I see myself as Morphis, the teacher, whenever I step into a classroom. As I look across the room, there isn’t just one “Neo”, but there are thirty or forty Neos. This is an extreme job for someone that understands how hard it is to open that door.
My decision to teach stems from a desire to positively impact student’s lives by sharing my love of learning and showing them that learning can be fun. The teacher education program has taught me that each student is unique and it is my responsibility to meet each student where they are, making learning relevant, meaningful and comprehensible to them on a personal level. My best teaching experiences have been lessons that incorporate hands on learning that allows students to learn and express their creativity. It is my fervent hope that I will be able to secure a teaching position in the Floyd County school system; Rome is my home and I want to give back to the academic community that supported me as I prepared for my college education and my future career as an educator.
Knowing that you have had an impact on someone and ending the day feeling like you changed just one life could be the best job in the world. To me those feelings and thoughts can only come from one profession-teaching. I have a family full of teachers and it is exciting to see them come home and have that satisfaction of influencing someone’s life. I want to be apart of that feeling and emotion.
I believe that teaching is one of the most important professions in the world today. From the very beginning, until present time, teaching has been around. The book of Genesis speaks of God walking and talking with Adam in The Garden of Eden, God was teaching Adam. I will be proud to, one day, be a part of this great calling.
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
Although I have had many different types of teachers, there are two that stick out more than any others. The first was my third and sixth grade teacher. She was the best teacher I ever had. The second was my seventh grade teacher. She was the worst I think a student could have had. Both, these teachers had very different teaching styles and very different out looks on teaching. To be an effective teacher the teacher must respect the student and be willing to go the extra mile to help the students learn all they can. In this paper, I will discuss the effectiveness of these two teachers and how their teaching styles differed.
I consider and know that children are the future of our world; we have to know how to teach and educate them adequately so they could be prepared to lead future generations. I consider that each child has its own way of learning; there are multiple ways in which a person could be intelligent and capable of completing tasks. I want to be able to help children with everything they need. I want to motivate them to do and be the best in every task and area, everything that they dream and think about, to persuade their dreams and never give up no matter how hard they think it is or how difficult becomes trough the way. I don’t want to be the type of teacher that goes through the school year teaching what I have to and limit my capabilities to show them things and lessons useful for their lives, I want every child that goes to my classroom, leave it at the end of the year with instructions or lessons that make them better persons. Additionally, think that it’s important to have a good balance between discipline and kindness with students, it’s important to have a good relationship with the students because in that way is easier to communicate with them; if they have any problems or trouble learning a lesson or something in the content, if they have a good communication and relationship with you, it will be easier for them to tell you about what is causing them trouble.
