It is important to have a vision statement for the workplace and to follow the vision/mission to maintain values and ethical behavior. It seems that TDOC focus much on safety regarding employees and inmates. As you stated without the vision statement it will cause problems among the organizations. However, with strong management working to uphold the principles of the facility makes an organization run well by having the employees following the vision as well.
The children should be seen as equal no child or group of children should be treated differently because of their gender, religion, disability ect. All children have the right to be protected from abuse. The children’s parents are informed because they are aware of the policies and procedures. All concerns and allegations should be taken seriously because this could lead to a referral to the child’s social care services, Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) if the allegation is against a staff member.
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting. My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safety precautions implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments for physical therapy occupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x-rays and medical needs. John told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for the art projects.
Another aspect that was mentioned by Jones as a challenge to the mission of ODRC is the overall negative environment. As he mentioned, for much of his time with ODRC, he worked in the institutions with the offenders during their incarceration time. As one can imagine, these are not, generally, positive environments. This negative environment within prisons is a hinderance to the goal of ODRC. This is combatted by programs ODRC employs within the walls, such as
As the Warden, William has a very tough job. He is in charge of everyone in the prison and now a days “focus has shifted to ensuring the safety and security of the community, staff, and inmates” (Ruddell, 2008). Now that the budget was cut, William believes that an off-site work release program would be beneficial in making sure the prison isn’t as crowded all the time. Staffing has become an issue and the union representative wants to know how the warden intents to ensure the safety of the officers. The ethical question here is what should he do in order to make sure his staff is safe. The warden is motivated by the fact that he does not want to lose officers due to them feeling threatened. Therefore something needs to be done to ensure they will stick around and do their job without being harmed. As the
4. The company has an obligation to provide a safe work environment for their employees. They need to redesign the facilities and follow US safety codes and standards to provide a safe place to work. Providing their employees a safer place to work will improve morale and boost production.
I decided to carry out a PEST/STEEPL analysis on MacDonald’s, the fast food chain. Although in their own Mission and Value statement they describe themselves as a franchise business.
The Texas State Teacher Association (TSTA) is a non-governmental association that was formed to make changes on the way public schools, their students, and employees are treated. The Texas State Teacher Association mission statement is, “The Texas State Teachers Association will unite, organize and empower public education advocates to shape public education in Texas thus providing a quality public school for every child.” (about-tsta). According to TSTA, the association was first founded in Mexia Texas in June 1980. The organization was created when the North Texas Teachers Association combined with the Austin Teachers Association (about-tsta).
It informs and governs staff behavior, sets clear expectations, and confirms that the administration has performed its role (Arrigo & Bullock, 2008). It is also the basis for staff supervision, training, and supporting a defense when things go wrong. Just as in regular policy, correctional policy needs to be grounded on rationale so that it is not simply based on whim or preference (Sylvia & Sylvia, 2012). Policy should relate to a “legitimate correctional outcome,” prevailing standards, or the goal that implementing a policy seeks to achieve. “Legitimate correctional outcomes” are things such as safety, security, sanitation, inmate welfare, inmate rights, due process, etc, that the courts spoke of in the 1980’s (Bennion, 2015, p.
1. How would you go about assessing the needs of: Children with disabilities in a school setting
Many of the challenges faced within the prison system are the same as those that are faced within other criminal justice organizations but there are some that are different challenges. Some of the same are workforce challenges. Recruitment, hiring, retention, training, and succession planning are a few of those workforce challenges. Budgets have an impact on these challenges. Technology is also a challenge. Keeping up with the latest technology can be very challenging. There is always a need for management information systems, fingerprint systems, enhanced security systems, and communication systems. Challenges that are met by managers of a prison system that are not met by other criminal justice systems are
The Pole did not want to give back the store and had no clear intentions in doing so even though he promised he would. Another example is when the Tecs returned to the chemical factory, because their original home was destroyed in the bombings. When they entered the factory, they noticed that all their belongings and possessions were kept.
