Throughout their school years, children say that they hate homework and that it’s pointless. Others will say, that this is definitely not the case. Students who actually spend time doing homework will better understand and execute class work more efficiently. Source C had mentioned that children who do not achieve much do more homework because they’re struggling. But, that struggling never goes away. Instead, children still struggle, but at this point, they don’t believe that homework is important. Source D had actually shown that high schoolers had higher grades when they spent more time doing work. They take the time to study and learn how to work through problems on their own, which helps them when taking tests. Multiple sources have stated …show more content…
Source A makes a point that children should use homework time to be with their families. Home life is an important factor when it comes to a child doing well in school, but children spend just as much time with their families as they do in school, not including weekends. Some people may not have as much time to do homework, but there should be at least an hour they can spare to do homework and improve their education. It should be no different than parents having to bring home paperwork from the office. That time could be spent on family too, but it’s seen as more important because it’s adult work. Children will learn that there are going to be times when sacrifices have to be made and they have to be responsible. If children stop getting homework and putting time and effort into it, then the real world will seem like a greater challenge to them because they won’t be prepared for actual work. Source B makes more neutral arguments by saying that homework is needed, but that it needs adjustments and changes in terms of what it entails, and how the student will benefit from the time they
Throughout today’s society, media contributes to almost everyone’s daily life. From informative news channels to comical television shows, media proves to be effective in advertisement, releasing messages and informing the audience. Although media proves to be wildly effective in advertising, releasing messages and informing the audience, periodically destructive and misleading messages are provided to the audience and directly influencing women. Cultural critics widely agree that media tends to negatively influence women and all the critics point to research which supports the belief that women are portrayed as subordinate to men, having no
It has recently been brought to my attention that our school is looking to adopt a sustainable menu into our meal program and I would like to give my viewpoint on the matter. As one many students here at Oxford Academy this change will affect me directly. Although people may at first oppose this conversion I think if we are able to overcome the first obstacles, this change would bring a great positive impact to the environment and the health of our students.
In Amy Chua’s essay, “The Right Road to America” she argues the point that immigration is a great value of this country and that America was built from immigrants. One thing differs from Chua’s essay than from others because she not only gives highly credible facts on how immigrants have helped our country, but she also provides ways to improve the issues of immigration into America. Amy Chua is a highly credible professor at Yale and states throughout her essay that immigrants who possess American values deserve to be here in America and those who don’t should leave. America had always been a country that accepted immigration and allowed all

Homework has been an area of discussion for teachers, students, and even psychologists. It’s been a practice which has been used throughout the United States to help students learn material, reinforce their day’s lesson, or just as busy work to improve a student’s work ethic. Several people view homework as useless, or just plainly unhelpful; this view has been demonstrated ever since the early twentieth century, where many authors and politicians were vehemently against homework, going as far as to write whole books and draft legislation (legislation which had passed the Californian government and had been law) against homework. This opposition has ever since faded, but is now seeing a new movement around America, and there are reasons as to why that is. In an article from CNN, they quote a study from another article published by The American Journal of Family Therapy which states that: “students in the early elementary school years are getting significantly more homework than is recommended by education leaders, in some cases nearly three times as much homework as is recommended”, and, as such, students are raised within a state of stress from the first grade. Several other studies also find that homework is very hurtful; the Journal of Experimental Education published an article which had made a study that found that the average amount of time students spend on homework each night had been 3.1 hours from a sample of high-performing schools in California, when the recommended time on homework is, at most, one hour each night. Homework has been mandated work for students all around the country, and several others, and the workload seems to only be increasing, and so, how might this workload affect a student’s ability to live a healthy life, a teacher’s work plan, and a psychologist’s view of an enormous workload on a student?
¨ Please sit. I have to tell you that unfortunately, you are not qualified to graduate.¨
Due to the convenience of the internet, students are complacent in the “short-cut” society, the internet has created an environment for students that leads to laziness which can affect the amount of learning that is actually completed with effort, which can determine how future societies function. With the availability of having the internet in the palm of your hand it makes searching for anything effortless. Kids are using the internet as a shortcut to lessen the workload, the internet is “consuming” kids and teachers that they feel it is okay to do everything with the internet, and the internet is only giving a little sliver of the whole story while cutting out many of the major details. So with the ability to access the internet almost effortlessly
The opinion piece ‘It’s cheaper to send kids to school with healthy food than junk’ by Wendy Tuohy published in the Herald Sun (25/07/2016). Raises the issue of excessive junk food in schools. This article aims to raise awareness to the general public but more specifically parents. Tuohy uses a sarcastic tone throughout but is also takes on a concerned tone.
College is a great opportunity for high school graduates through it may not seem exciting or entertaining but it will be worth it once students start finding jobs after their studies. College is a great start for anyone's future because it would impact each person's knowledge in the future and develop students characteristics once they start to find a well-paying job.
With eyes screwed shut, she intakes a deep breath of what is supposed to be fresh air. Instead, she is met with smoke so thick it instinctively makes her break out into coughs. Her ears listen for the sound of birds or music; instead, she is met with the relatively unpleasant sound of car horns and coughing. On a day meant for sweaters and warm beverages, she finds her body heating with even the lightest of clothes and craving a cool glass of water. Many people in today's society have adopted the idea that car usage is essential to one's daily life; the idea that comfort via easy transport is worth any cost to the environment. The previous description, most likely assumed to be fictional dystopia of sorts, may not necessarily be fiction at all; it may very likely be the result of strain on the environment due to car
The memories of a child’s first day of school to their last fades over time, but several instances in a child’s life will shape who they become. As a child, I attended schools in low income areas and like a handful of other kids at school I lagged in certain subjects. As a struggling student in an overcrowded and underfunded public school, I always found myself seated at the back of the classroom to be forgotten and overlooked.
Culture and perspective could not survive without each other. Culture influences perspective, and perspective influences culture.

It’s no secret that sometimes great discoveries come as a result of really big mistakes. But are they always worth the problems they cause? Are mistakes key to discovery? Some say mistakes are key to discovery, while others vice-versa. This essay will cover why mistakes don’t usually lead to discoveries, and how they might not be worth the mistake if a discovery is made. Most discoveries come from research and studies, not from mistakes as most people think.
