Each course syllabus that was given to a Summer Bridge student consisted of a brief course description, outline of the course’s goals and objectives, and a detailed summary of what is required for the class. However, some syllabi were different from others as some included things such as the professor’s e-mail address, phone number and office hours.
Of all the syllabi I received, the most unique one was my writing class. The syllabus began with a student-teacher agreement which I was required to sign and date. Once signed, I was greeted with a wealth of information concerning Dr. Harkins-Pierre such as her office number and hours, work telephone number, and e-mail address. As I flipped the page, my eyes quickly locked onto the “Your Responsibilities

Criminal laws vary extensively throughout the world. What may be a crime in one country may represent permissible conduct in another location. Why are there vast global differences?
Freedom Summer was a nonviolent effort by civil rights activists to integrate Mississippi's segregated political system during 1964. It raised the consciousness of millions of people to the troubles of African-Americans and the need for change. Americans all around the country were shocked by the killing of civil rights workers and the brutality they witnessed on their televisions. For nearly a century, segregation had prevented most African-Americans in Mississippi from voting or holding public office. Segregated housing, schools, workplaces, and public accommodations denied black Mississippians access to political or economic power.
Tobacco smoking is the largest preventable cause of death and diseases in the United States of America. Close to 480,000 Americans lose their life each year due to illness caused by smoking cigarette. (Healthy People 2020, 2010).
Attendance and participation is mandatory. Our lectures and discussions ARE the course. Assigned readings are not optional either, as they are the substance behind the form of the classroom interaction: if you don’t have one, the other doesn’t materialize. The course consists of two one hour and fifteen minute sessions per week, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:30 until 5:45.
In the Summer of 1964, the Mississippi Summer Project, also known as Freedom Summer, was organized by several Civil Rights organizations such as the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee and the Congress on Racial Equality. The event that caused the start of Freedom Summer were that many African-Americans were not registered to vote, this was because the southern states had implemented literacy tests that were unfair and could be interpreted differently, and Poll Taxes which were ridiculous amounts to pay ("Freedom Summer"). Other causes include the case of Plessy Vs. Ferguson, which stated the “Separate but Equal” clause, and also Racial segregation. Freedom Summer Volunteers included White Northerners, and the organization was made to focus on the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Voter Registration, Freedom Schools, and Community Centers (“Timeline: Freedom Summer”). There was a need for the Freedom Summer because Many African-American People in the south were being oppressed by Literacy Tests and Poll Taxes.
She also worked with Dr. Tammy Weiner and a working group to design the initial plans for the development of on-line courses at the university. In addition to these contributions, Dr. Morrow’s contribution to student success was one of her top priorities. Some people are born teachers and Dr. Morrow is one of those persons. She never taught because it provided her employment, but instead she taught because she loved the students and she loved teaching as a profession. She organized study and review sessions for students in the evenings on a consistent basis. She stayed at school two nights a week to offer additional evening office hours. In addition to the regularly scheduled two nights per week, she would meet with students for evening office hours whenever requested by the student. She also had an interesting mandated policy for students who were not performing well in her class. They were required to come to meet with her once a week to ensure they understood the assignments and materials covered in
The summer of 1964 also known as the Freedom Summer was a time of social change in Mississippi. The Document Project 26 in Exploring American Histories a Survey with Sources (second addition) highlights the success and failures through primary sources. The Student of Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) Understood the magnitude of such a movement and outlined the goals of the Freedom Summer in the Prospectus for Mississippi Freedom Sumer (1964). This document outlines the main missions of eliminating racial oppression by registering blacks to vote, and the organization’s complimentary mission to establish freedom schools for the black community.
Behind Wrestlemania, SummerSlam is arguably the biggest pay-per-view event for the WWE every year. We analyzed every SummerSlam dating back to 1988 and categorized each title match over the 27 year history of the event. Some interesting trends came to light through the visualization of the matches over time. The WWE Championship has been contested every year since 1992, but changes hands only one out of every three matches. The Intercontinental Title, on the other hand, changes hands over 70% of the time when up for grabs at SummerSlam.
The first weeks of the summer fellowship in the VDS stream was a bit hectic. They consisted of learning protocols and techniques. Three plates of PNiC-BSa4 colonies were grown by my partner and me that week. These were later used by the majority of lab students who had reached the cloning stage. My first PCR with plasmid pgbr22 failed, but the second was successful. PCR with pmCherry had to be completed 3 times to get a successful result and PNIC-BSa4 PCR had to be completed twice to get a successful result. The three practice PCRs were completed the 5th week of lab. Protein expression using PfDXR was started in week 3 and the sample of protein was purified the following week. I received my target protein Rickettsia prowazskii FabG
Aleks and I had a question about our summer research. For PSI we need to create a research proposal and we were unsure of what our hypothesis should be. We understand that this summer we will be analyzing and classifying OCT and OCTA images. Do you have any suggestions for out hypothesis about our summer research
When I arrived at 2pm in room 130 of the humanities building there were several brochures laid neatly along the table. Professor Knox introduced herself then discussed some key points to being effective. She spoke about how we hold the key to our success so what you put in is what you get out. Everyone has troublesome things transpire, if needed they have counselors available along with other resources. Another great moto was we create our life by the choices we make. She then described a few organization tips to be successful in school: read your book before you get to class, complete homework on time, arrive before the actual arranged time, sit in front, ask questions. She let us know the secret to getting the writing lab to proofread papers is to ask them “can you look at this with me for common errors.” She then went into detail how to construct a binder: get a two-inch binder, several dividers usually one for each class, and pencil pocket for the front. She suggested
The Summer Seminar is a program that I would be really looking forward to if I were to be accepted. The experience of a cadet's life is something that I would wish to experience. As a student at Montville Township Highschool, there are no ROTC programs, so being a part of this would be a new experience for me. Personally, I am always eager to learn new things and broaden my horizon. What I would expect from the Summer Seminar if were to be selected to attend would be building leadership skills and being able to push myself to the fullest potential, while meeting new people and building relationships with them. It would be a pleasure to be a part of this program not only to build my leadership skills or to see my determination but to see who
Getting up early for camp is a drag, it is best to be ready to go first, lest you forget something or are late.
