An innocent woman was murdered and now an innocent man will take the blame. Adnan Syed did not commit the murder of Hae Min Lee. Jay Wilds is lying about the fact that he saw and assisted Adnan in committing the murder. All of the facts presented point to the innocence of Adnan Syed. Jay Wilds is an unreliable source of information. He has even admitted to lying to the police when asked if he knew anything about the murder of Hae. Then, he admitted that he had lied and told the entire story, which could also be a lie. However, over time, the stories began to began to change; details were being left out and time frames were different. Jay told the police multiple versions of the story. The first time, he stated that Adnan had told him that
Physical evidence was extremely lacking, and all DNA tests conducted were clear of Syed’s DNA. Therefore, it is more than likely that Syed is innocent. The evidence, or lack thereof, presented in the case of Adnan Syed v. State of Maryland proves that Adnan Syed is not guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee.
Adnan Syed was a golden boy to people; he was smart and loved by everyone. He never thought he’d be convicted of his ex-girlfriend’s murder, neither did anyone else. In fact, when he first received a call from the cops regarding Hae’s disappearance he brushed it off, more scared at that fact that he was high on marijuana and talking to a police officer. He thought Hae had just ran off to California, just like everyone else. However, when they found her body in a park notorious for being a body dump his whole world turned upside down. Soon after this a friend of his, Jay, confessed to the police into helping Adnan with Hae’s murder which then put Adnan behind bars. However, was Jay’s testimony true? Unfortunately Adnan’s case has many flaws and lies to it, and the true answer still remains; is Adnan Syed actually innocent or guilty all along?
Proving whether or not someone is innocent or guilty is a difficult task. That's why we rely on court hearings, lawyers, judges and unbiased jury members to help decide whether a person is guilty or innocent of crime. In the court of law, Every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. On January 13th, 1999, Adnan Syed supposedly murdered his 18 year old ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee by manual strangulation. Hae Min Lee’s body was found in Leakin Park located in Baltimore City Maryland. On February 25, 2000 Adnan Syed was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, for the murder of Hae Min Lee. During the trial, Jay Wilds testimony became the sole focus of the investigation and eventually the conviction. 15 years later, extensive
On January 13th of 1999, a 17 year old Korean girl by the name of Hae Min Lee when missing after school in Baltimore, Maryland. Lee’s body was discovered in Leakin park; three weeks later in a shallow grave. The police arrested and charged Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed with the murder six weeks later. The police alleged Syed because of phone records they obtained also their only witness Jay Wilds. In the murder case of Hae Min Lee, Adnan Syed should not have been convicted. Syed should not have been convicted on the account of Syed has no history of violence, the single witness in the case has major inconsistencies in his story about the events that occurred, and the lack of evidence that firmly connects Syed to the murder.
Jay Wilds should be credited with the murder of Hae Min Lee. This is attributed to
One of the reason why I believe Adnan Syed is innocent is because he sounds Like a good kid that would never even think about hurting anyone, I mean can you imagine a 17 year old killing Someone cause I don't. Adnan was “like the perfect guy” as some would say. “He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT.
There are many mysterious and unknowns in the death of Hae Min Lee. There are many different people who could be looked at as a suspect. However the jury decided that one kid by the name of Adnan Syed, the ex boyfriend of Hae, was responsible for her death. I am going to explain why I think the Jury was incorrect, and did not have enough evidence to convict Adnan for the death of Hae Min Lee.
When one is guilty, it means that he or she is “culpable of or responsible for a specified wrongdoing” or, “having committed an offense, crime, violation, or wrong, especially against moral or penal law; justly subject to a certain accusation or penalty.” If someone is charged as guilty, they have broken a law or performed an unjust or immoral act to deserve punishment. However, this does not mean that through reasonable suspicion that an individual can be determined as guilty. It means that “a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. In other words, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, each essential element of the crime charged.” In other words, a particular person must be proven guilty of a crime through proof and evidence. In the story provided by Serial, Sarah Koenig narrates the case of the murder of Hae Min Lee. Seventeen years ago, on January 13, Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was reported missing. Weeks later, her body is found and the cause of her death was determined to be manual strangulation. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Musud Syed, was convicted of her murder and sentenced to life plus thirty years in prison. The case against him was mainly based on the story of one witness, Jay Wilds. Now, past reporter and journalist, Sarah Koenig is reopening this case to find out what really happened. Through documents, police interrogations, testimonies, and interviews, she collects evidence to look for the answer.
Introduction: Innocent or Guilty, which one? We have not found out if Adnan Syed actually killed Hae Min Lee, but in this essay I will give you my opinion of this topic. The basic information here is that people think Adnan Syed killed his girlfriend Hae just because she broke up with him. Adnan's friend, or a guy he usually hangs out with-- Jay --says that Adnan killed Hae. because of that the jury and court put Adnan in jail. So this reporter named Sarah Koenig is trying to find out if Adnan actually did it or he did not.
“About 10,000 people in the United States are wrongfully convicted of serious crimes each year” (Tom Spring). Adnan Syed is another one of those cases. Millions of people have followed Adnan’s cases because of the podcast Serial by Sarah Koenig. Adnan Syed has been convicted of the incriminating evidence, but there is not enough key pieces to convict. Adnan Syed is not guilty because there is not enough evidence to prove it was him.
The story began when 17 years old a Korean girl was missing by her family on January 13. The case returned to Baltimore city in Maryland when a maintenance man whose name is Mr. S found Hae’s body in Leakin Park in Baltimore city on February 9. The detectives made an investigation with many of Adnan’s friends, but the court listened only to one witness who is name is Jay Wilds. The court listened to Jay testimony about the Hae’s murder. Jay testified
Adnan is the real murderer of Hae. He is the murderer because Adnan told one thing to one officer then told another one something different, He told officer Adcock that the day she went missing he asked her for a ride, and that could have been an excuse to get into her car and kill her. Then, on page 2 of chapter 6 it states that Adnan told another officer that he did not ask her for a ride. This means that Adnan may have been trying to cover up the fact that he did ask her for a ride. This matters because why would he first say that he did ask her for a ride but then later say that he did not, What was he trying to hide if there should not be anything to hide.
Many people believe that Adnan syed did not kill Hae Min Lee. Most of them would back their belief by mentioning Jay’s testimony and how it was inconsistent. (“Inconsistencies”) Therefore, due to the inconsistencies, Jay could have been lying in his whole testimony and making up the whole story so that he can put the blame on Adnan. Some would think that Jay was jealous of Adnan because he was close friends with his girlfriend, Stephanie. For this reason, opponents argue that Adnan was being blame for all of this. Adnan was the one who told Jay to get her a present and Jay got
This shows that the state had been given rationale to believe that Adnan had a reason to kill Hae through evidence. Adnan did not love her and his pride had taken a hit so he set out to kill her. Another specific example, according to Koenig, “Hae’s closest friends… a couple of them did say that he (Adnan) seemed to be… over involved with her somehow” (Koenig, “The Breakup”). This shows that the people closest to Hae saw that this was an unhealthy relationship. This wasn’t a normal happy relationship, but more of a controlling one, where Adnan was over involved and trying to monopolize Hae’s time. An additional piece of evidence came from an interview with Aisha, a close friend of Hae’s. “The constant paging her if she was out… if we were having a girls night, he would stop by, like he would walk over and try to come hang out” (Koenig, “The Breakup”). This quote is proving that Adnan took it too far by giving specific examples of the measures Adnan took in attempt to take over Hae’s life. Another example of Adnan and Hae’s unhealthy relationship that was never mentioned on serial was mentioned at the first trial. It was an interview with a teacher, Hope Schab, who had once helped Hae hide from Adnan. Hope Schab explains a time when Hae showed up for internship in the morning, but didn’t show up for class. She goes on to talk about how Hae had called her on the school
Life can change in a blink of an eye. The ones you call your friends can turn on you. And going from one person’s ex to their murderer is all surreal. That’s what happened to 17-year-old Adnan Syed when he was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. In 1999, just weeks after Lee’s body was found at a local park, Syed was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional thirty years on the charge of first-degree murder. The conviction all came down to the testimony of one eyewitness, Jay Wilds, who said it was Syed who killed Lee. Sarah Koenig the creator and host of Serial, recaps details about the day Hae Min Lee was murdered, Serial goes on to prove that Syed should have never been convicted of Lee’s murder, which leads
