The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is written by William Shakespeare. In this classic tale, two young teenagers fall into a forbidden love. Unable to be together due to their parents being sworn enemies, the two romantics commit suicide rather than be apart. Many devastating events occurr that cause Romeo and Juliet to take such drastic measures, but the strong personalities of Tybalt, Romeo, and the Nurse greatly contribute to the tragic ending. Tybalt is Juliet's cousin, so he is a Capulet. He's considered to be an amazing swordsman, like on page 91 lines 5-37. At this time, Benvolio and Mercutio are talking about how Romeo is practically dead because Tybalt challenges him to a duel. Not even Romeo's best friends think he can beat the almighty Tybalt. Adding to his intimidating personality, Tybalt is also well known for his short temper. On page 55, TyBalt sees Romeo at the Capulet party and says "It fits when such a villain is a guest. I'll not endure him." These angry words show how mad Tybalt gets when Romeo crashes his family's party. As a result, Tybalt challenges him to a duel. When he confronts Romeo with this challenge, Romeo declines in an effort to keep the peace. However, when Mercutio steps in Tybalt kills him. This is the start of a long series of …show more content…
She will without a doubt do anything to let Juliet be happy. On page 87, she says "Thou wast the prettiest babe that e'er I nursed. An I might live to see thee married, I have my wish," which shows the admiration from the Nurse torwards Juliet. Their close bond is obvious. The Nurse is very aware of how much Juliet craves to be with Romeo, so she does her best to help them be together. Without the love, support, and assistance from the Nurse, Juliet will only see Romeo as a missed oppertunity, and will not fall in love. The Nurse loves Juliet so much, that it ends up playing a detrimental role in Juliet's tragic
The nurse, throughout the story, acts like a best friend to juliet, and sometimes a motherly figure in replacement of Lady Capulet. While one of her main purposes is comic relief, Juliet looks up to her and she becomes one of the only people to know of Juliet’s relationship with Romeo. The nurse seems supportive, but her opinions of Romeo seem to change after the news comes of Tybalt’s death, when she says “Romeo can, While Heaven cannot. O’Romeo, Romeo! Who would have thought it? Romeo!” The nurse indirectly states her new distaste for Romeo, making Juliet mad. Juliet feels betrayed by this sudden outburst. Later, when the Capulets try to force Juliet into a marriage with Paris, The nurse reveals that she believes “I think you are happy in this second match, for it excels your first; or if it did not, Your first is dead- or ‘twere as good he were As living here and you no use of him.”(656). This is the second time that Juliet has been betrayed by the nurse, someone who she used to confide in and
Tybalt addresses Mercutio and Benvolio and asks to have a word with them. Mercutio challenges Tybalt to fight “Make is a word and a blow.”(pg 116) Tybalt believes that Mercutio’s offer to fight does not include a reason. Tybalt asks Mercutio if he is an associate of Romeo. Benvolio attempts to calm the men because they are in a public place. Romeo enters, causing Tybalt to forget the fight because Romeo is the man he was waiting for. Tybalt expresses his abhorrence for Romeo when he says “Thou art a villain”(pg 116) Romeo states that he admires Tybalt for reasons that could end their feud and that Tybalt obviously must not know who he truly is because he is not a villain. Tybalt says “Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me” (pg 116) This statement confuses Romeo because he believes he never injured Tybalt “I do protest I never injured thee”(pg 116) Mercutio draws his sword on Tybalt and reveals he wants to take his life. Tybalt draws his sword and him and Mercutio begin to fight. In an attempt to stop the fighting, Romeo reminds the men about the Prince’s warning and reaches his arm between the fighting
In Romeo and Juliet, there were some tragedy things written by William Shakespeare. The Shakespeare play tells the story of two love birds that couldn’t be together and end up being killed. Romeo and Juliet knew they couldn’t be together but they kept trying throughout the play leading to a bad thing. The unfortunate and untimely death of Romeo and Juliet was untimely cause by Juliet.
Now, the nurse does more than care for her when Juliet becomes sick or gets hurt. The nurse has cared for Juliet her entire life, and relates to her as a type of mother. Since the two have been together for so long their loyalty for each other is strong. For example, the nurse sees Juliet with Romeo and does not tell Lord or Lady Capulet. Juliet wants to marry Romeo and the nurse allows it, and wants to help the wedding happen. “Hie to your chamber: I'll find Romeo To comfort you: I wot well where he is” (RJ.3.2.142-143). This quote depicts the Nurse being loyal by going to get Romeo even though he just killed Tybalt. In hindsight the nurse displayed the most loyalty due to her being around Juliet for so long and sticking with her through all of the tough
Tybalt is known for being arrogant and rude throughout the play “the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”. Tybalt is a Capulet, related to Juliet as her cousin, and is the mortal enemy of her husband, Romeo. Tybalt wishes to start fights with Romeo twice throughout the story, both times wishing to get Romeo to throw the first punch. He does this by trying to manipulate Romeo’s feelings, by being extremely rude, and overestimates his own skills, stating that Romeo would die in a duel with him. Tybalt is a very arrogant and rude character, but those traits are especially shown in Act 3, where Tybalt’s arrogance and rude actions get him killed.
The ending of Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo & Juliet, is devastating yet expected, as the “pair of star-cross’d lovers” (Prologue.9) dramatically kill themselves, leaving their friends and family in pure shock and sadness. In the play, the situations leading up to this dreadful incident should be blamed on the lovers themselves, as well as their secrecy with the absurd relationship that was caused by the couple’s family feud which definitely takes the blame for the double suicide. A long string of events that happened which lead to these deaths, were triggered by these three situations.
William Shakespeare once said “Two households, both alike in dignity in fair Verona, where we lay our scene from ancient grudge break to new mutiny where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes a pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life whose misadventured piteous overthrows do with their death bury their parents' strife.” It was told from the very beginning of the story, which that the end of a rival between two families, star-cross’d lovers would end their lives. This makes you wonder why young people with so much ahead of them ended their life over such little things. For Romeo and Juliet death was because of their parent’s rival. If their family could figure it out, maybe they would have lived
William Shakespeare brought us what some may consider the most well-known romance in history; and it killed both lovers. According to an article posted by Google Sites, contributing factors to teen suicide include “feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, emotional/physical/sexual abuse, and lack of a support network (parents, peers), or feeling of isolation.” While these factors apply to society today, many of them also apply to Romeo and Juliet. Among other factors, hopelessness, emotional abuse, and lack of support apply to the unlikely couple.
Who would you blame for an epic tragedy? Do you think 2 feuding families could be the cause of 2 suicides? We knew Romeo and Juliet would end in an epic tragedy, so we knew they had a slim chance of surviving. What we didn't know was how or why they would die. A series of unfortunate events would lead up to their demise. Romeo and Juliet’s love was epic and ended ironically. Romeo and Juliet's parents are responsible for their deaths.
There are two paths that both individually could have been the cause of Romeo and Juliet's demise in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. One, being the uncontrollable road of fate, and the other being sheer human reaction. Though all of the gargantuan decisions made the facade of of destiny controlling their lives, It was mostly the lovers impulsive decisions that would lead to their inevitable end.The first of these decisions was after Romeo sorrowfully decided to crash the Capulet's party, he decided that he was going to waltz up to Juliet and kiss her upon her lips. Though a fantastic idea in is imaginative mind at the time, he did not realize that the furious Tybalt had recognized him before. This tragic mistake leads to Tybalt having even worse blood with Romeo than he did before. This would inevitably lead to Romeo's next impulsive decision that practically destroys his life. Romeo meets Tybalt on the blood-stained streets of
According to the National Institute for Mental Health, there are eleven suicides attempts a day in the Unites States. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in teenagers. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, people often wonder how things could have gone so wrong for the "two star-crossed." As the story unfolds, it is clear that many characters play a vital role in the events that ultimately lead to the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The characters ultimately to blame are Romeo, Juliet, The Nurse, Friar, and the families.
"Tis he, that villain Romeo." Although there is not a reason for his actions, he picks a fight with anyone that is not a Capulet and would do anything to have his way. No one has control over him and he does not have control over himself.Tybalt is a tough, short-tempered, aggressive, manipulative, arrogant, and narcissistic swordsman, who isalways ready to pull out his sword and loves to fight. Although he is all those things, he is beyond loyal tothe family rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues. He takes the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets more serious than anyone in the play. "What, drawn, and talk of peace! I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee!" Throughout the story, he's eager to fight because he wants to defend his reputation because he is the toughest of the Capulets. However, Tybalt's vendetta towards Romeo jeopardizes the romance between Romeo and Juliet. It seems that if he had not been in the play, the romance between Romeo and Juliet would have been much
The Effects of Suicide Throughout Shakespearean Plays William Shakespeare was a talented author, poet, and playwright who shaped the way we think and speak even till this day. He was born in April 1564 to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden in Stratford England. He had two older sisters and 3 younger brothers. However, Tybalt obviously unaware of those events and still want to fight Romeo. This is clear when Romeo is telling Tybalt: But love thee better than thou canst devise, Till thou shalt know he reason of my love: And so, good Capulet, which name I tender [value] As dearly as my own, be satisfied', this shows Romeo realises he cannot hurt Tybalt as he is family now, but he doesn't want to reveal why just yet. He says he loves the Capulet's and he loves them as if they were his family (of course Tybalt doesn't know that though, but the audience do). Mercutio then jumps in and takes it in his own hands as Romeo is refusing to fight (Mercutio doesn't know that Romeo and Juliet are married, so in order to protect his family's name he steps in and fights Tybalt instead of Romeo) Mercutio is disgusted by Romeo's abandonment of traditionally masculine aggression. Tybalt does not understand why Romeo will not respond to his duelling challengea traditional mechanism to assert and protect masculine nobility. The two then draw their swords' and begin to fight, which excites the audience as they are intrigued, and speculating who will win and what will happen. Romeo is desperate to stop the fighting as he says Gentlemen, for shame, forbear [stop] this outrage, as he doesn't want them to fight because they are his family! His efforts turn out to be a failure when Tybalt soon after wounds Mercutio', and
