I know that my first year of teaching will be filled with many challenges and many Rewards. Just being new to the profession is going to be challenging in itself. I am sure I will be very anxious and nervous, but also extremely excited. I am confident that I will face the challenges with grace, and appreciate the rewards greatly.

Teaching was very natural for me. I felt comfortable and confident working in all my classrooms. I was fortunate to have the support from all supervising teachers and they provided me guidance and knowledge as I continued to grow in the classroom. I couldn’t wait to go to college so I could focus on teaching every day and officially start my journey as a future

Starting out I was really nervous about being in kindergarten, because I have mainly been in the upper grades during clinical and my first experience of student teaching. There was a lot I learned from first experience in different areas where I needed to grow as a future teacher. I took all of the comments from my mentor teacher and university supervisor, and applied them to this second experience so I could improve and find other areas I need to strengthen.

Throughout my journey to become a teacher, it has been my past experiences that have kept me motivated toward reaching my career goal of becoming a teacher. My first experience working exclusively with children was senior year where I volunteered at a local elementary school every day third period.

In my 24 years of experience employed with the Department of Education I have found that working with children watching as they grow is inspiring as much as it is rewarding. Teaching helps one to sharpen their skills on all levels for the curriculum is forever changing. Being an educator has its challenging moments but its something I want to accomplish. To be successful at educating others I must continue to grow, increase and improve within.

My first fieldwork assignment was in a rather large 4th grade classroom. It was exciting and scary all at the same time. I could tell from the very beginning that this was going to be an interesting adventure. I enjoyed being involved in the classroom, watching as children became excited in the new knowledge they had acquired. My later fieldwork experiences would be as intriguing as my first. This time I was able to become more involved in the classroom. I was able to get to know the students and was sad when I had to leave. My fieldwork experience has been such a positive influence on me and because of this it has made my drive to be a teacher much stronger.

When I was going to my second semester of junior year I entered a class which was a teaching internship. I was nervous and unsure about this, I didn't feel fit enough to become a teacher because there was always this little voice inside my head that constantly told me I wasn't good enough. Alas, this was something I was deeply passionate about and I knew I had to push through all these horrible thoughts inside my head. Finally, it came to us assaining classes to teach I was extremely excited but super nervous. I had an option though, I could go to the elementary school or stay and teach the special education kids. Hearing the thought of being able to teach them lit up my entire life. I had really wanted to get more involved with the special education kids because the special needs kids are just very special and unique

My first observation experience was eye-opening. Upon my arrival to Providence Catholic High School, I only had basic knowledge about what it took to be an effective teacher. After working with many different teachers at this high school, it became evident that every teacher adopted their own style of teaching. I also began to understand that in order to be a wonderful

I think that it is important to establish reasonable rules with the students from day one. This will show that although class will be an enjoyable and active environment, I am here to be the students’ teacher. I plan on wearing khakis and a shirt with a collar each day to show students that I am the “professional” and “in charge.” I also plan to stand up straight, speak clearly, and demonstrate tasks well. I plan on always arriving to class early and being prepared. Finally, I want to establish a relationship with the students where I am a mentor rather than a friend. Since I may only be 2 or 3 years older than some of these students and several inches shorter, it is important that I establish a trust where the students see me as a teacher

I think the most significant learning that has resulted from my experience would be that it is important to be passionate about teaching and about education. I feel like there is a connotation that teaching is an easy task and that is why a lot of people become teachers. However, teaching is not easy at all. Being an educator is one of those professions where work does not just stay at work. Teachers constantly have to bring work home to grade or teachers lesson plan at home, unless they stay at school for multiple hours after to do all of these things. Developing a positive relationship with students ensures a mutual respect is developed. Control trust and intimacy are viewed as core dimensions of interpersonal relationships. Students who perceived their teachers as exhibiting higher levels of ‘shared control, trust and intimacy reported greater learning’ (Dobransky & Frymier, 2004). Thus proving the importance of developing a positive relationship with students within the classroom.

Teaching is something that I thought I would do later on in life, when I am an old man and had all of these life experiences. That was my thinking anyway. So, I did that and they asked me to teach lower school P.E. with the little kids. I had a degree in history and they had already had this position filled, so I was working part time here and part time there and then gradually the position opened up here. I started two classes in history and government and now I have all of the history. I kind of worked my way form part time at the very bottom, all the way up to the top, if you want to call it that here. It’s a small pyramid.

All your efforts to create a comfortable atmosphere in your class have no sense if you stay passive during the classes. Add dynamics to the way you behave in the classroom, do not be afraid to make jokes and discuss with your students or schoolchildren the most complicated issues that are interesting for them. Every time you prepare for a lesson, you need to remember that the theme and ideas of these lessons should be interesting for kids. You need to find a way to present any information in a way that will capture their attention. Active position of a teacher is a strong motivation for kids and students. When they see how deeply you are interested in your subject, they unintentionally adopt this attitude and also become
