Steel Magnolias is a great movie of love, laughter, and tears. It features six strong-willed woman who "are the Steel Magnolias of the tittle…” as Roger Ebert says. The women dealt with many set backs in life, but no matter what they kept their southern grace and charm in tact at all times. In the film one of the main set backs is Shelby, one of the “Steel Magnolias” (Julia Roberts), fighting with diabetes. Shelby’s diabetes is so bad she’s not supposed to have children due to the strains it would put on her body. Although there is a risk and against her mother’s will Shelby is determined to go though with the pregnancy. In the movie Shelby must choose between having a baby, which is one of the greatest moments in a woman’s life, or …show more content…
In October, the day of trick or treating Shelby had a relapse with her kidneys and went in to a coma. Everyone stayed strong and prayed for her to pull through until the realization finally hit that she wouldn’t be coming out of it and that was left to do was pull the plug. Even though Shelby’s decisions to go through with having baby Jack Jr gave her “thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special” it affected everyone deeply. In the graveyard M’Lynn say’s “It's not supposed to happen this way! I'm supposed to go first. I've always been ready to go first”. I believe that scene shows how Shelby’s decision affects her mother.
In conclusion the movie Steel Magnolias is a great movie of love, laughter, and tears shared between the 6 “Steel Magnolias”. Shelby a young woman fighting the battle of diabetes deals with the heartache of wanting children although she’s not supposed to have any. Mean while her mother M’Lynn has to deal with the fact her daughter is determined to find happiness in having a child while slowly taking her own life. This movie shows no matter anyone else's opinions or the risk of the consequences, everyone should be entitled too their own choice specially when concerning their
Magnolia directed and written by Paul Thomas Anderson is a truly memorable film which digs deep down to the bone on how harsh life is sometimes. As the film unfolded the ideas of forgiveness, death, chance, and destiny all interconnects and create the story that is Magnolia. One notable theme throughout the movie is the relationship with parents. This really hit home with me because personally, I feel like parents really shape and mold a child with their own actions and personalities. This could be good for the child, but could lead to a life filled with pain and loneliness. In Magnolia it becomes aware that there are a downfall of fathers. Earl Partridge, Jimmy Gator, and Rick Spector all fathers who have placed a burden on their children.
In truth, there is a lot of fabrication of the story; however, the producer applies some elements of the true story that occurred in Rosewood. Based on the movie, the main aim was to provide a movie that is emotionally moving which affects racial affiliation in terms black or white (Gannon, 61). Some of the scenes focus on the emotional reaction, and the depiction of the movie focus on the concept of outside looking in.

After viewing and an examination of one of Paul Thomas Anderson success film ‘Magnolia’, I have analysed that Anderson uses multiple themes involving regret and loneliness in the film which is connected to auteur theory. What I am going to examine is: How were the themes and the characters are related? How did Anderson’s film techniques affect in the film? And why did Anderson use his similar style within the film? These questions are to give an understanding that focuses mainly on auteur theory in the film.
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell is a nonfiction memoir told from his view of the war and what really happened during Operation Red Wings. Peter Berg directed the movie Lone Survivor based off what Luttrell wrote in his memoir. Although the movie is based on the novel, there are subtle differences between the movie both Luttrell and Berg made in the memoir and movie. These various differences not only change the view and knowledge of this event but also the audiences understanding of the real history of Operation Red Wings.
Honestly, though it's written by Stephen King, Creepshow is not a contender for my favorite horror anthology film. In fact I see this film as below both King and Romero's ability. I only enjoyed less than half of the stories and with the others being fair or simply boring. Which is sad, because I remember this film being far better than it is. It wasn't until I re-watched this film did I realize I had seen it, but it had been so long that it had mostly been buried under other more resent films. The realization clicked during the second story, The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill. As I had remember this short, but I could never place where I had seen it. It makes sense to me that I would remember that one, as it stars King and in my opinion it is far and away the best of the bunch.
The stressors associated in Shelby having a child is that her body may be placed under extreme distress with her diabetes. This places stress on her spouse, her mother, and her father. Shelby deciding to have a child goes against her mother’s wishes, and places a strain on her and Jackson’s relationship. Also, M’Lynn has to give a kidney to Shelby due to her childbirth, creating stress among her siblings, and parents.
American writer Stephen King has written over 50 novels and 200 short stories most of which exists within the horror and suspense genre. Given the immense popularity of his work, King’s stories have often been made into feature films. Unfortunately, the horror that exists on the page rarely translates successfully to the silver screen. For every great King film adaptation such as the classic “Carrie” (1976) and the recent version of “It!” (2017), there are many dismal failures such as “The Dark Half” (1993), “Needful Things” (1993), “Thinner” (1996), “Dreamcatcher” (2003), and “The Dark Tower” (2016). The reason for this poor track record is that the horror that exists within King’s work is contained within complex themes and

I felt that this movie addressed numerous forms of abuse such as verbal, physical, sexual as well as neglect. Her father, resulting in her having two children, sexually abuses Precious. Her mother verbally and physically abuses her at home. Numerous emotions were at play while watching the movie such as anger, sadness, empathy, as well as hope. Precious was able to tackle all the anguish she faced and persevered. She exemplified courage and strength through adversity. Precious had some very influential people in her life, however, which may have saved her life and her children’s lives. Firstly, the principal at her original school noticed Precious and helped her. She could have ignored Precious and moved her along in the school system.
Straight from the womb she was pulled and taken to that scary machine that pumped her lungs clean. Everything happened so fast, she wasn’t able to feel her mother’s touch, hear her voice, or even open her own eyes. She was born addicted and feeding for that supply her mother used so heavily. The family was expecting to see her but was rather informed that she would be spending the next few days in the hospital, and would not be going home anytime soon. She would be placed with people they call her family, people that weren’t her mother and father, but people that would be able to provide her with the things her parents weren’t capable to. And within less than a day 's time, her life was flipped upside down and all she could do nothing but live by it.
