Sports are an important part of daily life, and those who play them experience many benefits that make them a more well rounded person. They not only provide multiple physical benefits, but also tons of mental ones as well. I have been involved in baseball since the age of three and can definitely notice these compared to non-student athletes. Teamwork is a crucial aspect because a team wins together and loses together (Grown and Flown, 2016). “A number of studies provide support for the premise that physical activity, and sports in particular, can positively affect aspects of personal development among young people, such as self-esteem, goal-setting, and leadership” (Aspen Play Project, 2015). Playing sports allow students to make new friends; they realize other people also have the same interests as them. Through teamwork, athletes experience leadership, another aspect of teamwork. Captains must socialize with everyone consistently and usually need to be well-liked. Leadership can also affect how a team plays. It is hard to have a great team without superb leadership and teamwork, making it necessary to have both. Socialization also includes what people do in their free time. “Compared to non-athlete peers, females are more likely to disapprove of others using them (Geier, 2012). According to Grown and Flown (2016), Teens who have practices, games, team dinners and fitness sessions have less time for mischief, and in a study, students who participated in sports were found to be happier (Grown and Flown, 2016). In conclusion, the benefits of sports cannot be denied. There is no doubt that interscholastic athletics in high schools are generally good for student’s mind and health. It is the mental and conceptual area that many use to support the importance of participation in competitive sports, something many can wholeheartedly agree with. It is also the same area that some point to when behavior exhibited by some athletes does not seem to support what is believed they should be learning. As with anything, however, one can only get out of something what one puts in. Athletics also provides social benefits and center on concepts such as cooperation, teamwork, and friendships. Sports are more than just developing hand-eye coordination and burning calories, youth sports provide many developmental benefits, physical benefits, and psychological benefits.
Staying up late to finish up an essay, or studying late at night after a long day of a physical and mental beat down, is pushed through with determination. Sports taught me determination, and it comes with work ethic. Being a student athlete also gave me leadership qualities both in the classroom and on the field. No where in the classroom will I be put into situations where quick decisions must be made and consequences are waiting to follow. The discipline that is required to be successful at a sport has only strengthened me in every aspect of my life. The discipline through sports has taught me to respect everyone, be coachable, and not to sell myself short. Everything learned through sports gives you a big advantage in school as well. For many of us, if it wasn't for sports, we wouldn't still be in school working this hard. Being a student athlete helps prepare you to catch anything life throws at you, and to handle it very well. Despite many excesses some sport programs still manage to promote important virtues like self- confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility, coping skills, and persistence. Through sports kids can learn to stay organized and learn how to prioritize (Ferguson). Sports enables development of physical skills and increasing proficiency makes kids feel good about themselves. It teaches kids that failure is something to overcome and and not to fear (Meyerhoff 8-9). Youth sports has many aspects that are truly benefiting for children, but these benefits are slowly being clouded by the negatives that are prominent in today's youth sports.

seball has been an integral part of my life for over ten years. It is a sport that has shaped who I am as person whether it is as a brother, son, student or a friend. Not only has baseball helped me maintain a healthy body, but it has also taught me the value of sportsmanship, trust and responsibility. And on top of that, it is a game that captivates my attention from the first pitch to the last inning. As a whole, baseball has made me a better version of myself in many aspects, but the most important takeaway from my years as a high school baseball player was finally being able to find individuality in a team of conformity.

Playing is a good stress and muscle reliever, and the players are less likely to do drugs because they learn to respect their bodies at an early age (Brent, Michael). Baseball is great for the body due to various forms of exercise. However, it also has characteristics that can be beneficial lessons for life.
Sports play a major role on our lives, which could be as simple as if we watched or play it. Although, not everyone has so much passion for the love of sports for many reasons. These two articles talk about how playing a high school sport, can harm or benefit you. In the article, “The Case Against High School Sports,” by Amanda Ripley claims that high school sports cost too much money, and the academic is more important. On the other hand, in the article, “Psychological and Social Benefits of Playing True Sport,” by U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) claims that playing sports can actually be the best thing for students. I believe that playing a high school sport can benefit students, and teach a few things as they grow up into the world.
Yet another thing sports can do is teach a player many life lessons. According to Scope Magazine's Tim O'Shei, sports teaches perseverance, team spirit, and fun. Many sports coaches will not allow players to participate in a game if the player's homework is not done on time. Some studies even show that some grades may drop after the season is over because of the lack of motive in a student. A student could also learn how to be a good sport by congratulating his or her team even if they lose. They should learn to be a good sport because whether the team wins or loses, the good spirit of the team would remain. A good team spirit could also make it fun and motivational for everyone else. The perseverance, team spirit, and fun in a team player could make both a good role model and a fun person to be around.

One thing that is a positive outcome in sports is the overflowing happiness people get when they participate in competitive sports. Playing sports blows off steam and helps people relax. “Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research ,Exercise: 7 benefits of regular physical activity, 1998).” Playing sports can help bring families or other kids together to build strong bonds. “It appears that US children are healthy and happy as they engage in this traditional pastime, and families report higher levels of satisfaction if their children participate. (Macdonald, Brian, Kids in Sports, Part 5: Can sports help shy kids to make friends?, 2009).” A pat on the back from a parental figure is enough to keep kids going and doing their best. Because sports make children happier, they are more prone to keep playing which all in all makes children happier and it teaches kids to do what makes them happy. With suicide being the second biggest fatality for adolescents doing what makes them happy can be a life or death situation.
Students learn about the importance of sports and how it has a positive effect in their lives. Sports also help teach children about teamwork and sportsmanship and how it will help them in the future. Although some people might argue that sports are making children stressed out and distracting them from learning, it actually helps raise their grades and help them become more focused. Paying high school sports not only allows students to handle pressure, but to also gain leadership
