Speech-language pathologists, also known as speech therapists, assess, diagnose, treat, and help to control communication and swallowing disorders in patients. Speech-language pathologists try to find out the level of difficulty of their speech, language, or swallowing disorder, and see what type of treatment is needed. They also have to plan the treatments to the patients’ needs. If the patient has swallowing problems then the pathologist has to help the patient strength the muscles that they used to swallow. Then the most important thing a speech pathologist does is that they talk to the patient and their family on how they can help with the communication and swallowing disorder. The teacher or the parent might not even know that a student has a speech disorder. Parents and teachers believe that all speech disorders have some connection with the mouth, but in some cases speech disorders are caused by other parts of the body. Speech impairments could be caused just by simple hearing loss. Even if it is just hearing loss it could still affect the child. Hearing loss can impact a child. People learn how to talk by listening to speech, but what happens if you have hearing loss. The earlier hearing loss is detected and treated, the more of a change the child will gain the speech and language skills of a normal child without a speech disorder. We have to be able to hear to learn properly to learn how to talk or a new language. This is saying that they are going to continue to say the same word constantly until the word come out right. When people hear speech pathology they have no idea what speech pathology even it. This just shows how underappreciated speech pathology is in the eyes of society. Many medical jobs could not function without speech pathologist. Nurses and doctors could not help stock victims if it was not for speech pathology. It is hard to believe that speech pathology is one of the most underappreciated careers in the United States, yet it is one of the most necessary. Speech pathologist work had to help their younger patients as much as they can to see their patients to succeed in life, but they can only do so much in a certain amount of time. Parents need to do their part in their child in life. Parents need to look in to their child disorder and find out how they can help their child. They can also help their child with their school work to see with wat their child is struggling in and tell the pathologist to see if there is a connection with their disorder. Parents need to have a weekly teacher-parent conference to see if there’s any change in the
