Why High Schools and Middle Schools Should Have Recess
Recess is a scheduled break in every student’s day that students use for unorganized sports and socializing with friends. Having recess teaches Middle Schools and High School students to learn to relax and not be in such a hurry all the time. Students ranging from 6th grade to 12th grade perform a lot better in their academics when given a 15-30 min break. Having that 15-30 minute break also helps students to pay attention and work harder in the class. Student’s need recess because it not only helps them physically but also mentally.
Recess can prevent students from becoming obese, which is one of the leading causes of preventable death. Recess helps with exercise for the students who don’t take physical education or aren’t in sports. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, over 1/3 of the population in the United States is obese. That is way too many people who have the risk of a serious disease later in life.
One of the main problems that obesity can lead to is diabetes. Diabetes, a disease that over 29 million American people suffer from, has become one of the biggest problems in

There goal was to get their students to get off their phones and let them relax for 15 minutes. These students also have the opportunity to try something that they've never tried before and get creative. What they concluded after trying recess was that it built a community with the students and teachers. Because of the students interacting with the teachers they were able to get to know each other better which will help them interact better in the classroom. This school has learned that giving the students 15 minute recess
First of all, recess can allow students to relax and release energy. According to “Do You Need Recess?” by Mackenzie Carros, “...’Recess is the one break in the day to relax and have fun!’...” (pg. 31) When a student is relaxing or having fun, it helps them take a little break to run or even walk around. That can help teachers with students that have a lot of energy and disrupt class because they will lose some of that energy outside having fun. That is one reason why middle schools should have recess.
Most teachers want good attitudes, but they won’t get any without recess. People are fighting back against this. Moms are mad that their kids get off the bus sad, “ unfair that my 9-year-old was being denied something as basic as a respite from her classroom “. This article wants to tell that their kids are not getting enough recess,
Did you know that the human brain cooperates better when you have a longer break time? Whether or whether not you think students need a recess. Recess is very important, here is why: Students’ learning abilities increase, obesity and health problems have gotten better and more recess helps student cope and socialize better with other people.
Recess is a period of time during the school day in which students take a break from learning and socialize with each other. The students get to do whatever they want, and they have fun with each other. A typical recess involves unstructured play which means that the students engage in their own activities without adults. Recess can also be structured which means that teachers set up mandatory activities for the students to play instead of letting them be free. There has recently been debate about whether or not recess should become structured or unstructured. Schools should agree with structured recess because the students can be able to interact within the same activity. It can also promote teamwork and teach the students how to help each other out.
Recess is very beneficial to a students learning. Jessica Lahey, author of “Students Who Lose Recess Are the Ones Who Need It Most”, says that research shows that recess is an important part of students’ academic, cognitive, physical, and mental wellness. Recess is
Recess is important to let your energy out. And to go outside to run and play to get your exercise. People say that recess is good for you because you run and play and when you back to work in the classroom you pay attention more. Recess is good for your body to keep your blood pumping thought your body. Recess is all so healthy for your body. It all so helps your muscles when you run around outside.
Elementary school recess is an opportunity for students to release energy through physical exercise, learn life skills through social interactions, and continue to build relationships with peers independently. Recess is an unstructured social environment where some students shine with solid social skills while others flounder due to a lack of ability to initiate play, engage well with others, or assert themselves. One strategy to support and empower students to proactively solve problems without adult guidance is the Buddy Bench Program.
Many students upon entering middle school are surprised to find that recess if no longer part of their day. Recess has positive benefits for students. I think kids from 1 -12th grade should have recess. A few examples are: exercise is great for students, kids need time to socialize with their friends and socially connect, and recess reduces stress.
Recess is as important as classroom time. It is critical in development and social interaction (Rochman). Students should be able to go blow off steam, run around for a half hour, let out some energy halfway through their day. Recess can also teach young kids responsibility. If he or she gets in trouble, the school can take it away from them. This teaches children that their actions have consequences. It helps children practice conflict and resolution. “Play time benefits extend beyond the physical development in students but affects social, emotional and cognitive development,” (Rochman). After they have a break, they will be more able to focus on their studies. Who doesn’t need a break during the day? Most adults get an hour break in the middle of the day, most students get twenty
Recently, as kids get older, kids have less time to enjoy and get to play outside. It’s because of the ideas of parents or education administers who want their children to learn more and experience more at school. For instance, some parents want their child to learn high school math, even-though, their children may not in high school. However, interestingly, many researches have showed that having recess gives a lot of benefit to the student.
Having more recess can help a child’s health, social development, and learning in the classroom. Recess helps your health because more play time creates more nerve growth in the brain. Recess helps you develop social skills because your are always talking and playing with other kids. Lastly, recess helps us learn because you can use strategies during recess and apply them to class. According to US News Health, principals say children’s behavior and academic achievement improve with more recess.
"They couldn't stand up or walk around, the heat was on in the classroom, and by noon -- when it was time for them to go eat--I had a headache, it took the kids in that class fifteen minutes just to line up. They were fried." Said Dr. Romina Barros after conducting a test experiment in which she took a class and gave them no recess or breaks except for a 15 minute snack. While some people say that recess will make a child not concentrate in class, science proves them wrong. Without recess, I think kids would be going
Recess is an important amount of time for kids in school. Recess is a time in a kids school day where you go outside and have fun and play. It has been argued that some people disagree for kids to have recess. However, recess should be a part of all kids school day because recess helps create social and other developments for kids. Also, recess helps kids pay attention in class.
I overheard an eighth-grade boy say that recess at sixth grade are like deer entering the woods on opening rifle day. They run out so fast. Sixth-grade students race out to get to recess. Some kids play four square while others play different things or just wander around. Two graders were playing around and acting like they were throwing fireballs at each other one anonymous seventh grader said. Another eighth grader said that they looked like the people playing Dragon Ball Z. One of the sixth graders said that recess is always fun for his friends and himself. Another sixth grader said that she really does not care about recess because all she does is stand around. She also said, why go outside and freeze when you can talk inside and be nice
For instance, after 15 minutes of running around it is hard to get kids to calm down, so imagine trying to get a class of kindergarteners to calm down after 30 minutes of chasing one another around, it would take even more time out of our school day. Also, if recess was longer kids would spend more time thinking about what to do at recess. They would spend the day thinking, play tag or soccer? Swing or do gymnastics? Addition, with their minds elsewhere, they wouldn’t pay attention in class. The teacher would be talking, but all the while, kids would be debating up in the clouds who to play with, what do, and who to avoid.. They would get behind in class and the teacher wouldn’t recognize that it was just from their students lack of effort. “I disprove of recess in every way shape and form. My students heads fly up to the clouds and don’t come down again until they hear the dismissal bell.”
