In the USA, kids have loads of homework climbing to the ceiling and the assignments are huge. Kids have lives of are full of stress/health problems, affecting sleep patterns, and just not being a kid. Kids need a cure for their life, and it is less homework. First, one of the reasons need less homework is they can not be a kid. In the text, Kids are overwhelmed by homework. A parent says that her 1st grade son has to write a 2 page paper on a person. Schools are pushing kids too much (Wilde). As the parent says, kids have too much homework. The kid have a first grader do a 2 page paper. That is crazy. By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn't be able to work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they know they wouldn't have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren't learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they’re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter's tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos). Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more children need to suffer the silent epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the majority of physical and emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and high school due to the amount of
Having a lot of homework put a lot of stress on kids. It puts a lot of stress on kids because their grades
In the article “ When Homework Takes Over,” by Merri Rosenberg, she quotes ‘ A new study finds that heavy homework takes negative impacts on the lives of high school students, resulting excess stress, physical problems, and little time for leisure. This shows that excessive homework can lead to high stress levels and physical problems for teens and children. Rosenberg also states ‘Teachers handing out more assignments than ever is making kids stressed, their sleep
Teachers are giving too much homework to the students so the students don't have enough sleep for the next day of school. “Students who did more hours of homework experienced greater behavioral engagement in school but also more academic stress, physical health problems, and lack of balance in their lives”(1). It’s talking about that school work
When lots of homework is given to an student it can cause stress because not all students understand all the homework given. This also happens because some students don't pay attention in class to understand how to even do homework. Something else that causes this to happen is that some students wait for last minute to do homework because they don't understand it. Stress isn't good for students body because when it came to stress, more than 70 percent of students said they were “often or always stressed over schoolwork,” with 56 percent listing homework as a primary stressor. Another reason why HOMEWORK GIVES STUDENTS STRESS is because a group of Australian researchers found that when more time was spent on homework students were getting lower scores. My last reason why HOMEWORK GIVES STUDENTS STRESS because the group of Australian researchers also found that too much homework can also cause lead pupils to begin suffering from depression. This is why HOMEWORK GIVES HOMEWORK
Teachers have been deciding if they want to get rid of homework. In reality, the students are getting excited about this because who really wants homework? But by doing this, it risks students not learning the material they are supposed to learn. Teachers should grade students based on whether or not they understand the material. So, homework should be graded as extra credit. If the homework gets graded as extra credit, then it won’t be counted against the student if they get it wrong, but help them if they get it right.
School is stressful and tough with all the homework and tests, In Fact all of the students I interviewed say that there is too much homework and that they can't always get it all done. Many students say that they stay up late rushing on the homework, which in the long run will affect their grades which will affect their college that they get into, which in the end will affect their future job. “I feel rushed and sometimes in a hurry to get my homework done before practice” said one student. Some students around the world spend 13+ hours a week on homework alone which is too much. One primary school in new York has gotten rid of homework and outside of school projects all together, telling the kids that they should get outside and exercise.
Elementary school students can become overwhelmed with the amount of work given to them. This could cause the child to suffer from frustration and exhaustion. Every child enjoys activities and if there is too much homework being put on them, then they will not have time to do the things that make them happy. A downfall to students not being able to do the things they love could result in them losing interest in school and their grades. It is actually stated that the amount of homework had no effect on the test scores that the students received and it only caused a
In many American households, homework is the main cause of stress. Some people think that America is not so well and adding more homework will fix that problem. A study by Indiana University found that students who do more homework tend to get higher scores on standardized tests” (“Do Kids Need Homework?”). “Plus, part of growing up is learning to balance outside activities and the demands of schoolwork” (“Should Parents Help Kids With Homework?). Teachers have their reasons as well. “Teachers say homework is important in the learning process and can help kids develop study and organizational skills. They say kids need to practice what they've learned in school so that the material sticks in their brain” (Strauss). “Having too much homework
My cousin that lives in north carolina does not get homework at school it's important because the issue here is that not getting homework and because other schools don't and others do.major reasons are sometimes kids don't have parents to help them on homework next major reason is homework disrupts families overburdens children and limits learn lastly engaging with their families.obesely we shouldn't give kids homework because sometimes parents can help their kids because of work and homework disrupts family and they should engage with their family.
Growing up as a kid in America, there are many things you could get the chance to partake in. One of the main things you get the chance to do is attend school and earn an education, but with this education comes great responsibility. Homework is one of the main responsibilities that come with this pleasure. Yet, there is one question people have about homework. Should kids in elementary school have the responsibility of having homework?
To start off, here are some reasons why children should have less homework. All students should get less homework on a daily basis because too much can cause a great deal of stress, too much time is required to complete it, and it impacts free time and sleep. Too much homework can cause stress in a student and lead to health issues in the body and
My opinion is that kids should not have homework. I think that homework is a bad idea because you should be able to go home and relax. I think that kids should have more work time and no homework. I think that kids can get confused and frustrated when doing homework. One of the rules I think is needed is no homework on weekends. Anther rule I think needs to be included is that only thirty minutes doing homework. I think one of the rules should be you only get homework if you don't get your work done in school. I think anther rule is no homework in elementary school. One more rule that I think is needed is you can choose to take it home or do it the next day. I think no homework because you go to school all day and work. I think there should
Do you know what it feels like to be pressured? To feel like you just can't do something, or just absolutely cannot complete something? To feel like you are not able to do something? Well, unfortunately, kids feel this way all of the time. You're probably wondering why. Believe it or not, the cause for this is homework. Did you know that homework can cause major stress that can lead to drug abuse, alcohol abuse, or even thoughts of suicide? This partly why schools should not have homework. Yes, you might think that homework should be in schools because it can also establish great habits with kids, but homework is not such a friendly aspect of life for everyone. In fact, it takes up tons of their life. You might think that it's unfortunate, but homework should not occur.
In addition to the lack of focus caused by homework, teachers assigning homework could lead to high stress levels. Homework bringing stress into students lives can have a negative impact on their health. Research done on students stated that less than 1% indicated that homework was not a source of stress. However, 56% indicated homework as their main cause of stress (Strauss). This amount of stress can lead to them feeling overwhelmed and
