As I know, many students fall in love in college. It means they need more money to date. Besides, male students have more spare time to play the computer game. For female students, they can not resist the beautiful clothes. That is to say, their expense is increasing. So do college students need a debt—such as credit cards and small personal loans—to have a “ comfortable ” lifestyle in college? In my opinion, I think it is not necessary. Firstly, it can encourage their bad purchase habits, like unrealistic competition, pursuit famous brand or wasting the goods. Secondly, we students do not have a steady income from work and our main source of income is parents. Thus, our parents may return the money finally. Of course, if we want to
In America sports wherever there is people, there will also be sports. Sports have played a major role in American history. To some people sports is all they have. It is just the way that things are. The issue in sports now is that the NCAA exploit the sports world and the very backbone of the corporation is the poorest. It is an issue that has been around for quite some time now. The issue is that the sports world face is the fact that college athletes are not paid, although they perform in a multibillion dollar industry. The NCAA basically has a monopoly on college athletics, and generate about one billion dollars a year. College sports are extremely demanding both in and out of season, and these athletes put their future on the line. The NCAA should be legally obligated to compensate athletes, based solely on the fact that the money made, is from their performance.
Right now in sports, there is a huge debate on whether or not college athletes should be paid. For years now college athletes have gone out and performed on national television, working hard to make it to the next level. They have given it there all, and not only that, the athletes bring in about $11 billion in annual revenue from college sports. Now days, sports is a business, and college sports are the same. Division 1 college sports provide a lot of income for the universities. Many athletes receive scholarships and a little more. While the prospect of receiving a free college education is something few would complain about, when the issue is more closely examined it becomes clear that it is not enough. Many people think that college athletes shouldn’t be paid, or already are by scholarships and benefits. College athletes should be paid for participating in college sports to help them financially, give them the money they played hard to earn, and to eliminate under the table payments.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association is one of the biggest sports organizations in the United States. One of the most divisive issues relating to the NCAA over the last several years has been the issue of athlete compensation. There are many sports—particularly football and basketball—that bring in incredible amounts of revenue to colleges across the country; therefore, whether or not athletes should be compensated for their role in college sports has become a topic of debate. While scholarship athletes are already compensated by their access to tutors, meals and a free education, the concept of the student-athlete has deteriorated over time and thus athletes should be able to make money by signing autographs or making public appearances while they are in school. In addition, the big four American professional sports do not give amateurs an opportunity to play aside from Major League Baseball, which funnels athletes to college sports and in turn ushers them into a place where they cannot profit from their athletic ability. The issue is clearly a complex and unethical one. It would be difficult for schools to pay athletes fairly as certain sports would appear entitled to more money based on profitability; however, players should undoubtedly be able to benefit from their athletic prowess by selling merchandise and profiting from their stature in general. The NCAA’s stance hindering players’ ability to sell autographs and other memorabilia is just as important to this
Recently, the NCAA and CBS signed a $10.8 billion television agreement over 14 years (Hartnett). So why would it be a problem for student athletes to be paid? Most people that is close to the discussion believe student athletes should not be paid because they are not mature enough at the time and can be easily exploited by the people around them. “Should student athletes get paid?” has been a major topic of discussion, and with so many lives affected in the decision no decision has been made.
A man in a McDonald’s uniform takes orders, and flips burgers as he thinks to himself he could’ve done much better for himself. Why would he be forced to do this? He could not afford to pay for his college and could not get a job to support himself. Education in the United States is becoming more and more expensive, and the people it is having the heaviest impact on is the graduating classes of high school students. Making public colleges have mandatory free tuition will improve the quality of living, improve the unemployed rate, and also improve parts of the economy.
Being a native of West Virginia made last class really interesting. That is of course because, especially in southern West Virginia, WVU and Marshall are the equivalent of pro-teams to the fan bases. An Dr. NAMEHERE's lecture was almost exclusively about paying college athletes.
In mid-2010 higher education debt surpassed credit card debt at $830 billon dollars(Clemmitt 877-900). Debt has become an increasing problem for students who want to attend college. As more students try to further their education, tuition rises and so does the amount of loans taken out each year. According to Belkin, “Students attending public four-year institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from last year, for tuition, room and board,” meaning that tuition is only growing not decreasing from previous years(Belkin n.p.). Many people debate over whether they should attend college and be in debt or if they should get a job somewhere that allows them to live a comfortable life debt free. Two-thirds of college graduates have to take out loans in order to get through college(Dwyer, McCloud, Hodson 1133-1155). Many people question, “Does rising college debt limit who attends and completes college?”, while many people have different opinions on this particular subject, I believe that it depends on the student and their situation if college debt limits who attends and completes college because it depends on their financial stability, it depends on if they are borrowing the right amount and it depends on if their degree provides them with the means to pay back their loans, however, many people would disagree with me and say that yes, college
money to pay for their education. Colleges are very expensive and need to start looking at it on the student perspective. Students who are graduating from high-school barely come out with less than $3,000 or less.WIENER, J. (2015) Not Every individual is able to pay for college and this just isn't fair. A high percentage of students are independent while in high school and are forced to work because of their parents low income. What happens to that student? Smart in academics, good athlete but because they cannot pay for their proper education they are forced to forget about their dreams.
College students all over the world need grants and scholarships to be able to get an education, and many cannot get this education if there were no such thing as government and state grants. The United States offers a great amount of financial aid and help to their college students but, Illinois is taking its toll on this. The state of Illinois is planning on getting rid of the MAP grant, which is known as the biggest source of money for students. Without it, students will be facing many consequences, such as transferring to an out-of-state school, taking out more loans, or even dropping out. Many people do not see this as an issue, but it truly does make a big impact on college students. It is unfair to students who heavily rely on the MAP
If students had to pay for school themselves they would take their studies more seriously. If made to earn their tuition and housing funds, students would spend less time partying and more time working towards a future career. While it would be more difficult on the front end, it would reduce debt on the back end, especially for those who do not end up with quite the post-graduation paycheck they had been expecting freshman year. In previous generations, this idea was possible. People either worked their way through college or they did not go at all. This idea seems unrealistic in today’s competitive world of colleges. Student loans are a big reason for this change. If it were more difficult to borrow money for school, the amount of people who attend college would decrease. Instead they would fall into jobs that a high school diploma fully equips them for and that many college graduates end up holding either way (McArdle).
Why should college students get paid for playing a sport? If you really think about it, it might sound nice to get paid traditional salaries just like a professional athlete does. But, it’s not really that good of an idea because of what college offers you already when you play the sports. College students who play college sports get put on live TV broadcast during their games so everyone in the world could see them play and some students who play sports in high school will get a scholarship to go to a good college if they are recognized by how good they are at the sport. All of that is a privilege for playing a sport in college and those who get recognized or are that good at the sport could eventually become a professional athlete and then
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”- Nelson Mandela. I believe that college student-athletes should receive special education privileges such as more time on projects or special tutoring. There is only a small percentage of student-athletes that will be graduating college. In addition to the graduating dilemma, only a small amount of athletes will be going to a professional level. A student-athlete barely have the most stressed life due to athletic and academic reasons. If these athletes were properly educated then these student-athletes would not lead their lives to crime and drugs. I am writing this essay because being a student-athlete myself, it is difficult to balance my school life and my athletic life. I know how college student-athletes feel and I want to help give them a better future.
After graduating from high school, it’s a time to start fresh and find your personality. There are many choices that we as young adults have to make about how we are going to continue on with our lives, and get to where we want to be. Furthering our education in the long run will help us have happier, successful lives. Going to college, is a big part of many people’s lives, and a choice that many will choose to get to their next goal in life. Although, when one is looking into what route they are going to choose, there are many options to pick from; a public and or private university, a community college, a technical school or even going into the military to help pay for the high tuition. In this paper, I’m going to discuss the tuition, class sizes and what they have to offer.
The prices the days College students are paying for higher education is atrocious. It is true that universities paint a beautiful picture in on pamphlets because at the end of the college is a business Instead of putting majority of donations to sports universities should them in financial aid to students and towards research. When deciding on a college, families should create a plan and see if it loan is manageable before taking it. Having debt can be a burden, but this will makes students more eager to actually want to get a job and remain focus on school. But I also do not feel college should be given to everyone for free because then a degree would be worthless. There would be an abundance of highly educated people working in jobs below
To foundationally break the question on whether student athletes should get paid or not, we need to ask ourselves if students should get paid in the first place. Students are the reason why many young adults go to college. Students are people attending a lesson willingly to learn a lesson. College and Universities are a place for students to learn and excel with the enormous resources that are available for students to utilize. Several of our brightest citizens of the world have been students. These people include Jeff Bezos (Amazon Founder), Mark Zuckerberg (Founder of Facebook), Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo), as well as many other famous, and successful people in this world. All of these successful people went
