Delta Airlines is one of the leading airline industries in the market based on on-time performance, revenue per available seat, customer satisfaction, and it is well positioned in taking advantage of the new positive economic outlook for the airline industry. It is a domestic Airline carrier that provides passengers and cargo services throughout the US and other international destinations. Some of its hubs are in Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Amsterdam, JFK and Tokyo-Narita as well as in partnering with the existing regional airlines. Currently, the assets of Delta Airline are valued $54,252 million and the composition can be divided into three main groups including PPE (Property, Plant, and Equipment), Current Assets and other Assets (Luo, 2014).

It’s never easy for a company to be the number one company as there’s always bound for mistakes to be made and sometimes it takes an organization to face hard times in order for them to succeed. One company I look at that has faced hard times and strong competition is Frontier Airlines. Over the past years of this organization has went from being one of the best airlines to know one of the top worst airlines for both customers and employees. This company has had to sacrifice a lot throughout its time and it has changed its reputation that now you find other airlines following in the same footsteps. Airlines have also been very unethical to its customers and the public as they have been overbooking flights and not handling the situations in an ethical and respectful way.

Referring to the SWOT analysis, we assume the most uncontrollable issue imposed on C.P. is the circumstance of fierce competition existing in the current airline industry. Consequently, as alternative submissions, the company should remain constantly advancing new strategies, namely acquisition and introducing of a budget confederate.

Target Corporation is known worldwide as a large retail chain that brings in millions of dollars each fiscal year. The ability to remain competitive in a saturated industry could prove difficult to some retailers, but Target remains one of the leaders in the retail market. With success comes risk. Target Corporation competes against online retailers as well as “big box” stores to remain competitive.

WestJet is a Canadian low-cost carrier, which was founded in 1996 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. WestJet is Canada’s second largest airline with high per cent of the domestic market. It provides scheduled and charter air service to 86 destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. WestJet operates an average of 425 flights and carrying over 45,000 passengers per day. In 2012, WestJet carried 17,453,352 passengers, making it the ninth-largest airline in North America by passengers carried.One of WestJet’s main values is to be positive, passionate and entertaining in everything they do which make them different from any different airlines.

Entrepreneur Robert Deluce introduced Porter Airlines in 2006 aiming to create a higher value experience for its customers compared to other major players and competitors in the Canadian airline industry such as Air Canada and West Jet. The brand image is designed to provide upscale and refined service to its customers, giving the sense of traveling in first class with free amenities that competitors provide at very high prices such as meals, beverages, wine, etc.

WestJet Airlines is a Canadian airline that differentiates itself with their low cost flights and exceptional customer service. The company’s philosophy is “just because you pay less for a flight, doesn’t mean you should get less.” WestJet has been growing rapidly since 1996, however, they believe in growing responsibly by being cautious of their environmental and community impact (“About us”, n.d.). As WestJet has a strong presence locally, our analysis will mainly focus on WestJet’s domestic segment.

The purpose of this report is to represent a SWOT analysis for a WestJet Airlines Ltd. “SWOT is an acronym describing an organization’s appraisal of its internal Strengths and Weaknesses and its external Opportunities and Threats.” These factors will determine the success or failure of any company. This WestJet SWOT analysis is done at the level of the entire organization and is a useful tool for understanding, decision-making and achieving company’s corporate goals and objectives.

* Government. The government is a weakness if they change or update some of the regulations that are in place now. This could cause delays and plans to change and take more time between flights.

A similar strength is being able to segment the people flying and provide different pricing options.
