1. ATTENTION GETTER: Millions of animals are abused each year. Over a million of these animals are abused or killed just due to the involvement with domestic violence. Despite animal cruelty being a felony which can result in jail time for over 15 years and 500,000 dollars in fines, it is still an issue which occurs on a daily basis across the United States. It is important for these animals to not go unnoticed, which can be achieved if society became more enlightened and educated on the topic of animal cruelty. (Pacelle, 2011).

Everyday, every second that passes by, animals across the globe are mistreated in their so-called “home”. Stop animal abuse! Abusers of animal are five times as likely to harm humans. Nearly half of the time victims who stay in violent households do so because they are afraid for their own animals. Countless more never leave the home for their very reason. This issue should be further looked into by identifying states with poorly laws against animal abuse, the wrong doing of taking advantage in the use of human resources, and having absolutely no heart in having a friendly companion.

What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are “thrown” into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. “When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them” (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that “authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self-processed animal “rescue” after they were found in the “rescuer’s” filthy home.” (‘No-Kill’ Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe “shelter”. The shelter being a dirty home.

Bob Salsberg, in the article, “Massachusetts Considers Registry for Animal Cruelty Convicts,” reports the growing development of a registry for convicted animal abusers and hoarders. Salsberg begins by describing the lawmakers of Massachusetts (and many other states) discussing a registry that can be accessible to any pet stores and adoption centers. Each facility will be able to identify any customer with a background of animal abuse or hoarding, and this will prevent them from adopting or buying another animal. The initial bill had the animal abuse registry, but the arrangement was not voted in the final version of the law. People shouldn’t have any rights to abuse or neglect animals and get away with it easily. Animal abuse is a big conflict because some people get away with these acts in which they don’t get punished or little punishment while the animals don’t get to live happy lives and suffer. The motive may be to shock, threaten, intimidate, or offend others or to demonstrate rejection of society's rules. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts they have seen or that have been done to them. Others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against—or threaten—someone who cares about that animal.” (The Humane Society of the United States, 2017) This states that there are reasons why people do what they do to the animals but it still doesn’t give them the right to harm or mistreat them. The different types of animal abuse varies but the main one that everyone knows of is dog fights. People think that dog fights are fun, exciting, or just a thrill, but when you start fighting the dogs and making them aggressive, that prevents them from finding a loving caring home. When a dog fight gets busted and they get all the dogs out of there it would be hard to find them a home because of their aggression. This is sad because this more than likely means that they will have to put the dog down. I honestly do not agree with putting the dog down. Sometimes they do not want to put in the effort to make the dog better so they just take the easy way out and just put the dog down.

The shocking number of animal abuse cases reported every day is nothing compared to most of those which are never reported. Cases of animal abuse are not compiled by the state or federal agencies such as violent crimes against humans. This makes it much more difficult to calculate how much it actually happens. Information available to us can help us better understand and prevent cases of abuse against animals. They're all special and talented in their own way. Animals should not be shown for games or entertainment.

In America, we come across serious environmental issues about poverty, domestic abuse, ending world hunger ect. Animal cruelty isn’t one of those topics that isn’t being put out there more. We see it all around like the commercials on tv that tell you to donate money to help the poor stray dogs. People don’t see how much damage we can cause to them, but if we got together we can help stop this madness. Laws were made for this problem way back. Our laws help keep society in a proper place with no hysteria.Which means people like us should pay attention more to our surroundings.

It seems like nowadays nearly everyone in society knows something about the abuse. If not, abuse is a somatic or physiological form of harm. Some states have also followed this law. Some very in jail time or price in fines. Fines and jail time doesn't always stop offenders.
