The war seemed to separate the colonists into three separate groups. Ones that were loyal to Britain, which were called “loyalists”. Most loyalists had “business ties” with Britain and saw being on Britain’s side of the war as being “defenders”. While other loyalists despised those that rebelled and assumed their reason to rebel was to obtain more money from the empire. The revolutionary war, a time when a still young and growing thirteen colonies began to take a stand to their mother country, Great Britain. With a lack of communication with the American colonies, a sense of “salutary neglect”, a rift began to form between mother and child. Trust in each other was beginning to wane. This rift soon caused a series of chain reactions. With the British enforcing laws that seriously hindered American expansion and trade. Great Britain having losing their trust in the colonist, they did not respect any American leadership and or opinions. Both sides were both to blame for a war that followed their poor decisions and reactions.

The Revolutionary War was the colonial struggle for freedom, liberty and independence. There were growing tensions between the colonial militia and the British military after the French and Indian War, which would intensify as a result of strict British legislation. Strict British legislation and unreasonably high taxes led to rebellion and boycotting British goods. The French and Indian war, British legislation and taxation and the ideologies of the Enlightenment altered the American perceptions of Britain, and contributed to the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

After 1776 Loyalists felt the urge to remain allies with Great Britain. This urge came from their own sense of protection and personal gain. Although other American colonists choose a different political standpoint, they were Patriots. They lived for independence and liberty away from the power of the king of Great Britain. However Loyalists supported the king and the traditional ways of Great Britain. American colonists would support Great Britain as Loyalists for their own sense of safety in the colonies, as an escape from embarrassment and failure, and for their own prosperity economically and emotionally. Having the fear of losing their sense of honor and rank, they decided to continue serving Great Britain as Loyalists.

During the late 1700s conflict arose between the greatest power in the world known as Great Britain and the colonies of America. The conflict that occurred is well known today as the Revolutionary War. While a lot of people see the Revolutionary War as America united together while fighting for freedom from the British government there were those in America who sought to stay loyal to the crown. As with any conflict, there are always two sides of the coin. Loyalists saw separation from England as a toxic idea that would only cause war and a reduction in wealth of America’s people while Revolutionists saw the need for freedom from all oppression, treachery and unfair taxation.

His solution was to tax the colonies, which made them agitated and revolt against Great Britain and their soldiers called the redcoats. There were some people who wanted to stay loyal to Britain and were called Loyalists. On the other hand, colonists who fought for their freedom and supported independence from the British were called Patriots. Numerous amounts of loyalists agreed with the rebels’ view that Britain has mistreated America, but believed the solution could be worked out within the British Empire. Recent immigrants from Europe also tended to support the Crown.

Those who chose to stay with Britain, the Loyalists, did not consider unfair taxes and regulations good reasons for rebellion. Some loyalists lived in relative isolation and had not been part of the wave of discontent that turned many Americans against Britain. Others expected to win the war and wanted to regain favor with the Britain. The Patriots, on the other hand, were colonists who supported the war for independence. They believed that British rule had become unbearable. The Patriots were determined to fight the British until American independence won. Both were colonists control by British, want to regain there favor from British, and were considered unfair taxes. I would be a Patriot because I want to fight the British to regain our independence from Britain. So that we don't have to face rule that are unbearable and pay unfair

Now, the Revolutionary War started with many different battles and disagreements with the British and Patriots. Battles such as the Boston Massacre, Battle of Lexington and Concord, and Battle of Bunker Hill played big roles. Battles that were fought through words were also very important. The Patriots grew impatient with the British for taxing them without representation. This means they were taxing them and didn’t even pay any attention to the Colonies besides gathering their money. They were treated like mules. Other acts that made the colonist angry were the Stamp Act, Tea Act, Sugar Act, Townshend Act, along with many others. The Colonist did a lot of boycotting that made the British so mad they ending blocking off Boston Harbor to stop there supply from other surrounding countries.
