Romeo and Juliet Essay First Draft In any tragic story there is somebody who causes the tragedy, but who would guess that in Romeo and Juliet the death of the two lovers could’ve been caused by several characters. Not one person is responsible for the death of the main characters, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. In my perspective I think Romeo, Juliet, the Capulets, the Montagues, and fate all take the responsibility for the tragic ending of the two lovers. First, both Romeo and Juliet can be responsible of their own deaths if you think about it. Both of them were young and looking for someone who could care for them and give them attention. Juliet’s parents seem to not care about Juliet at all, they only care about keeping their families pride. In the book Juliet admits that she does not want to marry Paris and if her parents had actually listened to her she wouldn’t have wanted to figure out a way to leave the wedding. Capulet seemed to want the best for his daughter, but she didn't want to marry somebody she wasn’t in love with. and wanted to escape the marriage her father organized. But her plan of escape would result in death. Capulet's uncaring actions appeared in the first act, when he was planning a marriage between his daughter and Paris without her agreeing. Capulet also states "Of my child's love: I think she will be ruled. In all respects by me; nay, more, I doubt it not" (Shakespeare p. 79), that translates to “I think she’ll do whatever I say. No, I think she’ll do all that and more. I have no doubt about it”, which can seem a bit controlling. But, both Juliet’s and Romeo’s families can be responsible of their deaths because the tension caused between their families brought friction to Romeo and Juliet's decisions of who they love.
