Attention Getter: According to epa.gov, “Each person in the United States produces an average of 4 pounds of household hazardous waste each year for a total of about 530,000 tons/year.” Background: Trash continues to increase, as the world continues to last. Easy disposable products such as water bottles and soda cans has led to increasing amount of pollution around the world. Audience Relevance: Recycling is something most people choose to ignore. Recently, oceanographers and ecologists discovered that about 70% of marine debris actually sinks to the bottom of the ocean. As a result, not recycling hurts the marine life as it leaves leftovers behind to rot. This is important because it affects the whole world we live in. Our mess our the result of our world.
