When I started this class this pass September I had a little knowledge of psychology. In my junior year of high school I took Psychology as an elective class. I really enjoy it alot, it amaze me how much there was to know about our brains. This September I came with the feeling that this psychology class was going to be way different from my psychology class from high school. And that my knowledge from my class before wasn’t going to be useful at all. But I was wrong, this class has actually been better than my other class. Because it has help dust off some of the concepted that I had learn before. But it has also made gain more knowledge about psychology that I didn’t knew before. For example the next concepts are the ones that had impacted me the most: critical thinking and the eight essential, implicit learning, short term and long term memories. I chose these concept because they have not only taught me more about psychology, but they have made a big impact on me.
Critical thinking was the first concept that I was introduce too when I started the course back in September. I hardly remember it from my pass psychology class so it was kind of new to me when I first started to learning about it. I thinking that why I chose it as one of my most important concept, because it was what introduce me to the course. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgement on the base of supported evidence and not from emotions. I like it
In Chapter 7 of our What Is Psychology textbook, we learned about the importance, details and strategies of memory techniques. One type of memory is Short Term, which only last up to thirty seconds before forgetting. Whenever has to remember a number or a name, they often repeat the information multiple times so that the Short Term Memory can transition into Long Term Memory. In order for this transition to occur, the information must be constantly repeated, or important enough to be held in the permanent memory, which helps create a “folder” with all retaining information and reminiscing. Another way short term can become long term is using a method called Chunking, this breaks the bigger pictures into smaller ones for the brain to remember,
In Psychology 101, you learn about a personal fable; something that I have not lost. I have always wanted to change the world that I was destined for greatness and teaching elementary school students gives me that power. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
1. What is the nurse's highest priority for a patient experiencing sleep deprivation? What would we teach them about this? What treatment would be expected? Safety would be highest priority; sleep deprivation causes psychomotor deficits. Interventions that can help with sleep deprivation would be avoiding stimulating activities in the hours before bed. Avoid exercise, caffeine, and screen time just before bed. It’s also a good idea to avoid eating a large meal, as this can interfere with healthy sleep. Create a comfortable sleep environment. One medication that the patient can be prescribed on would be Zolpidem is a short-acting hypnotic that will help the patient initiate sleep and awaken without untoward symptoms of drowsiness. Also, Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and galanin are sleep-promoting neurotransmitters that can be used as a treatment.
Paula is apart of the target student group in her class. She does lack the cognitive capabilities as her peers in the higher cognitive functioning groups.Though Paula does show eagerness to perform as well as her other peers, there are many things, including her low cognitive ability, that keeps her from catching onto the information he is taught. During the initial pre-test, Paula, scored with a 33.34%,one of the two lowest scores in the class. Like her peers, Paula was not able to finish the test, and the test fairly measured the information that she was able to answer before getting highly frustrated with the pre-test like her peers. Paula was able to correctly identify the questions that asked about the needs of a plant. Paula was
My primary uses of time would fall under the category of sleep. It is quite ironic that this is the activity that I do the most; when in reality I feel like I sleep the least. Making this excel spreadsheet really put everything that I do in a typical week into retrospective. What did not come as a surprise to me is what I spend most of my money on. Aside from bills and rent, I typically find myself spending money on food and drinks.
This is the report to the Psychology 100 class assignment. In the assignment, I handed out surveys about my personality and asked others to rate me; then I collected and analyzed the data. The results will show that how other people see me may or may not be the same as I see myself.
Share your opinion on whether the maximum volume of these devices should be regulated. In my opinion, regulating excessive loud of noise can be positive outcome of hearing loss. According to “The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has recommended that all worker exposures to noise should be controlled below a level equivalent to 85 dBA for eight hours to minimize occupational noise induced hearing loss.”
I thoroughly enjoyed this semester's psychology course. It was incredibly fascinating and interesting to learn how people think and what affects them as individuals. I gained powerful insight that I can now bring forward into my life.
Omnibenevolent: God is all good and all loving, and, therefore, would not want any bad stuff to happen.
I was born January 24th in the year 2000. When I was born, I had three older brothers. We lived in an old cozy house in a small town call Forest Grove. My dad, David, had a vision to start his own construction company where He did home remodeling. My mom, Melinda, made it her responsibility to homeschool the four of us from a young age. As I grew up, we moved to an even smaller town call Gaston. It felt like we had just bought five acres of heaven. Some of my favorite thing to do were to ride bikes, shoot 22's, and solve Rubik's cubes.
The importance of the ability to apply critical thinking is having the confidence of questioning what is actually being proposed. In psychology especially you have to be willing to research and find other resources to either back up one’s claims or offer up a rebuttal as to why there is room for reasonable doubt. Continuing education and the production of supporting facts is the key to making sure that information that is unfounded is challenged and proven not to be valid . Critical thinking is imperative now more than ever because there is a constant need to think outside of the box in efforts to offer up a greater understanding when it comes psychology. Crtitical thinking is a process that has less to deal with the surfaces of issues
In short, this course was very informative and it the most significant learning experience for me was defining critical thinking because I was intimidated by the word critical thinking. For the most part, I knew what the term critical thinking meant because I apply it in my everyday life. However, in our first assignment, I had to read to read define critically thinking several times to get a better understanding. In my own words, I described critical thinking as analyze a subject in more depth, but I learned in our reading assignments that the definition of critical thinking is “define as a set of skills which an individual applies to not only to another person reasoning, but also to one’s own reasoning” (Black, 2012, p. 59).
I find it hard to choose one theoretical approach as I’ve learned to see the benefits of many. I’m drawn to an aspect that each approach tends to emphasize. Initially, I would say behavioral theory; because of its central focus on learned behavior. I believe we are defined by our actions, and most of our present behaviors or tendencies have been shaped by past experiences. This leads me to believe that are most memorable moments are those that shape us, and our most memorable moments are those packed with emotion. So, I cannot believe that solely are actions can change our behavior, our thoughts and feelings about the situation at hand take part in our actions as well. Our thinking can influence our feelings and thus change our behavior. Which is what cognitive theory focuses on. So I tend to value a more cognitive behavioral approach.
This research article was taken from the Association for Psychological Science (APS) Journal. This specific issue had a total of ten articles, and while they are covering different topics and studies, some of them do focus on similar ideas. Psychology is all about the study of the mind, and how it has different parts intended for unique functions. It seems like a good portion of the articles for this specific journal deal with emotions and how the body interprets them. One article deals with the stress of different generations, while another deals with an individual’s willpower against sugar. There is an article about self-esteem and how that varies during a lifetime, as well as an article on cooperation. The article that will be specifically discussed in this research paper also has to deal with how the body interprets things when it comes to a stressful situation, such as a crime. It looks at how reliable eyewitness testimony is after traumatic events, specifically in regards to lineups.
As I walked into my first class of college I was unsure on what to expect, luckily my first course was psychology. Coming into this course I had no knowledge of psychology and to be completely honest, I was unsure if I was going to like the class. Surprisingly, it did not take long to enjoy this class, to look forward to each class, and to become intrigued about psychology. I would have never thought this course would have made such an enormous impact on my everyday life. Importantly psychology has helped me with two situations for example, my relationship with my mother and my fear of planes. Reading the book we are assigned and hearing all the important information my professor had taught us I was convinced to change the way I had looked at everyday life situations to improve my future.
