Pro-Choice, Not Abortion The decision to support abortion is the same as a decision to support free speech. In the US, a woman has the right to make the choice. Women have the right to make decisions about when and with whom they reproduce with. Fredrika writes, "No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a rap wants to gnaw off its own leg" (Mathewes-Green, Real Choices, 19.) What Fredrika is trying to say is just because a person is pro-choice doesn't not make them pro-abortion, it makes them a person with a difficult decision. This is one of the biggest controversies of all times, some supporting abortion making them pro-choice and others who oppose this position …show more content…
A woman that is distressed suffers physiological harm. Not being unable to cope with this process they soon turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain; putting their life at stake, harming themselves because they find this an easy way out to escape. These endangered woman should at least have a say in what they thing is what's best for them, not what is best for this unborn fetus that happened from an unfortunate event. Figure 1 Amnesty International USA, 2013 In today’s society there is estimated around six million in the world and still expanding daily. The economy today, most civilians are in poverty and slowly increasing; realistically people now find it difficult to support themselves. As most Americans know, we are currently in a recession meaning us Americans are in a financial bind making living expenses more complex to get. Now and days people need not only a substantial job but two jobs at that. So if a couple choose not to have an abortion that family now has to feed another mouth making it difficult which now they are a struggling family. The fact that we are in a recession, everything we purchase is increased and taxed more. Now how will a family working to make ends meet be able to support not only themselves as an individual but a new baby AND most likely their partner. What pro-life supporters don't think
Pro-Life believe that women should not have the right to have abortions while Pro-Choice believe that women who become pregnant should have the choice to have an abortion. When a survey is done asking Americans if abortions should be legal, illegal, or legal under certain circumstances most people said legal under certain circumstance. “There are variations within each group depending on how liberal or conservative one’s opinions are; some individuals who are pro-life believe that in cases of rape or incest abortion should be allowed, and some pro-choice groups favor waiting periods and other restrictions on abortion” (Arguments for and Against Abortions). Pro-Choice believe that the “fetus is a human being from the moment of conception; this means abortion is murder, which is immoral and should be illegal. While Pro-Life believe that“The fetus is not yet a human being because it cannot survive outside the uterus on its own” (Arguments for and Against
Pro-choice believers support the idea that women have the choice to do what they want with their bodies. In the article, “Yes, I’m Pro-Abortion,” Lauren Rankin asserts that being Pro-Choice means accepting abortion as one of the choices women have the right to make. Rankin says that abortion is not available for all women, especially a woman of color and low-income woman. The author also mentions that it sidelines abortion and delegitimizes the valid choice. I agree that if one chooses to be Pro-Choice, then one also accepts abortion as one of the choices women have the right to make because of individual rights and safety.
With so many women choosing to have abortions, it would be expected that it would not be so greatly frowned up, yet society is still having problems with its acceptance. Every woman has the fundamental right to decide for herself, free from government interference, whether or not to have an abortion. Today, more than ever, American families do not want the government to trample on their right to privacy by mandating how they must decide on the most intimate, personal matters. That is why, even though Americans may differ on what circumstances for terminating a crisis pregnancy are consistent with their own personal moral views, on the fundamental question of who should make this personal decision, the
Anti-abortion lawmakers have found renewed strength to champion tougher restrictions and bans after Donald Trump’s victory in the recent presidential election.
Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People may tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important that the horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965-1996 over 515 million babies have been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions (www.rockforlife.org). This is what we need to understand: abortion kills and we need to know where it came from.
People who are pro-choice believes the privilege to freedom and should have the choice to make their own decisions with what they want to do with their bodies. For instance, a woman is assaulted by a man and winds up pregnant with his kid. She chooses she wouldn't like to keep the baby, so she has a fetus removal in light of the fact that bringing up an offspring of her attacker is excessively agonizing for her. Pro-choice defenders take into account the sensitivities the women may have experienced, while pro-life defenders doesn't understand what she may be going through and consider her to be a
A few of the many organizations that are pro-choice are NARAL Pro-Choice America, The Planned Parenthood Federation of American, and the National Organization for Women. Among these groups there are many different circumstances in which people believe abortion should be an option. There are some that approve of abortion only if the woman’s life is in danger. Others approve if tests predict the baby will have a serious physical or mental problem. Some people only approve of abortion if incest or rape is the cause of the pregnancy. Then there are also those that believe abortion should be the right of the woman no matter what the circumstances. The other issue is time. When is it acceptable to have an abortion? Most people who are pro-choice believe that abortion should happen before the fetus becomes viable, capable of living outside the mother’s body, which is usually around the sixth month of pregnancy (O’Brien par. 7). A large argument between the two sides of the issue is the time in which the fetus is considered a human being. Most who are pro-choice say that a fetus is not a human being until around the sixth month
Every woman should have the opportunity to determine if they would want to keep their child or abort it. Growing up in today’s society, I find myself in an environment where kids are having kids, parents who aren’t capable to raise a child are having kids, and victims of sexual assault are having kids. And in most cases, the child ends up living a life that isn’t too well. This leads to children being neglected, abused, homeless, hungry and more importantly unloved. Imagine a woman not being allowed to have an abortion. Abortions eliminate the risks of all of those tragedies happening. The problem shouldn’t be killing an egg that isn’t fully yet involved into a baby. The problem should be having children
When the topic of pro-life or pro-choice is brought into discussion, one should always keep in mind that it is ultimately the mother’s choice. In an
Like every argument abortion has two sides . The way you see it is up to you . We are Pro-Choice we support abortion and the woman planning on going through with abortion , it is your body and you should get the choice of what to do with it.
We all live our lives as we please all in accordance to the law, but when it comes to abortion people start to judge and try to regulate how others live and interfere in their personal choices. We live in a country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the freedom to the choice of an abortion. A woman’s right to choose abortion is a fundamental right recognized by the US Supreme Court. The courts also have a category of classes called the ‘near-suspect’ classes, which include gender. Gender deserves protection from possible discrimination at the hands of the majority. Women constitute a majority of American’s and have been discriminated in the past. The Landmark case Roe v. Wade was decided and remains the law of the land. Making laws against abortions don’t stop abortions from happening; they just make it less safe, which in many cases leads to death. Therefore idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice. No child should be brought into this world where they are not wanted or are not able to live a normal life. Most people who are against abortion will never even become pregnant, so they should not be making laws against it. Pregnancy is a private and personal matter. Outlawing abortion is discriminatory and unfortunately abortions are being transformed from a right to a privilege for most women.
The right to life is the most basic and important right that we have. In the past two hundred years, over one million Americans have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches have been delivered, honoring these American heroes. America is now engaged in a war where there are no heroes, no monuments or tributes - only victims. Our society has declared war on its most helpless members - our unborn children. Since that war was declared on January 22, 1973, there have been over 35 million deaths.
The Morality of Abortion Abortion is the termination of a foetus whilst in the womb and is a constantly argued issue in today's society. Whether abortion is moral or immoral depends on many topics and on one particular topic; when does life start? In 1976 the "Abortion act" was made active in England and Wales. This allowed the termination of a foetus aged up to 28 weeks, and for the first time women had the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
Abortion has been an issue since 1820. In the beginning the problem was more about protecting doctors who have licenses. “Regular doctors thus had an incentive to ban abortion as part of an effort to drive irregular doctors many of whom were women out of business” (Straggenborg, p.211). The AMA (American Medical Association), which was the group that the regular doctors made, started a campaign that made the people believe that the white population was getting smaller and the population of the immigrants was rising. Abortions were made illegal to insure the stability of the population of American citizens. It seems odd that the only reason that abortions were made illegal at one point was because of money issues and a lust
Should abortion be legal? This debate is a strong issue in the U.S. Many people are for it, and many are against it. However, it seems people have extreme viewpoints on the issue. It is either all or nothing. The moderate position on abortion is it should be legal only under certain circumstances. According to the essay "Three positions on abortion" by Thomas Shannon and Nicholas Kockler, the moderate position would limit a consideration on the health of the fetus, risks to the life of mother, rape and incest. It also considered as moral position, or a compromise between the pro-choice movement and pro-life movement. The moderate position accepts both of the pro-choice and pro-life. In Shannon and Kocklers' essay says "This
