Pro Athletes are Overpaid Sports are part of the everyday life of many people across the world, and in the United States sports are even more present in its society's life due to the fact that there are four major sports in the country. But should the professional athletes from these sports earn salaries as high as ten or twentieth times more than the national average wage? The answer should be NO. Professional athletes must be well remunerated but can not be overpaid when there are many issues around the world that can be solved with money. At this present age, professional athletes do not play for the love of the sport, and what they really care is what is going to be the amount of money in their contracts. The fans who support their teams have the majority of guilt in the high salaries of these athletes. Any team or franchise of any sport will not be able pay excessive salaries to their players if they do not sell jerseys, tickets, packages trip, accessories related to players, and games package on TV cables. The national government should intervene in the sports federation's policies and set a salary cap that do not diverges from its population reality. Athletes should not earn much more than professionals who save lives, educate the population, and professionals who put their lives in risk for others. These athletes become idols and heroes in the society for being seen every week on the TV and be constantly on the news. When the real idols and heroes are the ones
Professional athletes in the United States are given extremely substantial contracts and lucrative endorsement deals and it has been argued that their salaries should be reduced to smaller wages but others say they are paid accordingly. The argument that athletes are overpaid not only exists in the United States but also all over the world. Most countries however do not have the variety of major sports that the U.S. has. When athletes are being paid millions of dollars each year, it raises an important discussion. This discussion is about how we value and compensate athletes and whether or not their salary is too much. This also leads to an argument asking if American priorities are altered by the significant difference of athletes
Professional athletes are highly talented and determined entertainers with extraordinary physical abilities. They compete in various sports to entertain people and make a living. Those include basketball, football, baseball, hockey, tennis, and the list goes on to any athlete that gets paid to play. These athletes train really hard and for long hours to be the best at what they do. Fans pay to watch them perform because they really enjoy seeing them. Like other entertainers, such as actors and singers, athletes are paid large amounts for their performances. Professional athletes are not overpaid for the amount of physical and mental stress they go through to do their job.
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
There is no question that sports are a big part of American culture. Almost anyone that you speak with has a favorite team in some kind of sport. These beloved sports are not cheap, however. The sports industry pumps out billions of dollars each year. While a lot of this money goes towards stadium renovations, front office benefits, and marketing, nearly half of the money spent on sports in America goes toward the salaries of the players. Daniel Roberts, a sports writer for the popular Sports Illustrated, wrote an article entitled “Fortunate 50.” In this article, Roberts describes the fifty highest paid American athletes of 2013. In order for the athletes to make the list, they had to be a citizen of the United States or play within a United
These athletes take millions home for just playing a game. Playing games for life isn’t worth million-dollar wages. Some players make the big bucks without even leaving the bench. Take the NBA for an example. The Golden State Warriors bring in billions because they are a championship basketball team. The Warriors have seventeen guys on their roster. A handful of those seventeen don’t see any playing time. Damian Jones’s job is to come to practice and sit the bench during games and he earns 1.17 million a year doing so. Even the players who do play get paid an outrageous amount of money. The most widely know Warrior player Stephen Curry takes home 34.4 millions for just playing a game he loves. There is no reason he needs that much money. The athlete’s love for the game, not the money, should keep him playing. Paying athletes even half of what they make now should still keep them in their respected
Many people don’t think professional athletes deserve the amount of money they receive. What they don’t consider is that they work for their money and deserve every penny.
Although athletes are paid enormous amounts of money for their jobs, but they should revenue paid that wage. Athlete’s schedules are hectic it takes up the whole day at a time people think that the contenders have it undemanding but it takes up as significant time as a regular job. Athlete’s are doing what they love just as a doctor does as he helps a patient when needed.
Are Professional Athletes paid too much? Imagine being paid tens of thousands of dollars to pitch a baseball, to shoot a basket, to score a goal. Believe it or not this is a weekly reality for many people in the world of professional sports. Society has always questioned whether or not professional athletes are being paid too much money. When answering this question ourselves we must consider three aspects.
I think that the contracts of professional athletes have gone unchecked for too long, and now athletes are one of the wealthiest people in our nation. Athletes are paid too much for simply playing games. Sports are really just for entertainment and we pay a colossal amount of money to watch athletes perform at the highest level. It is
How many times have you heard a fan, friend, or a reporter complain about the excessive
The average nurse only makes $70,000 a year which is a very small amount compared to the millions professional athletes make in a year. Athletes are vastly overpaid compared to people who risk their lives every day to make the world a better place. Some think that athletes are overpaid. Others disagree saying that they need millions of dollars to get by after their sports career is over. Athletes get millions more than the average family every year and only play for a portion of their lives.
Athletes have been entertaining the world for hundreds of years. The highest paid athlete in 2015 is Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather has an estimated net worth of $400 million dollars. Mayweather was paid $220 million to fight in the ring against Manny Pacquaio for only 36 minutes. $220 million for 36 minutes is outrageous (ESPN Par 6). Most people can’t get that amount of money in their lifetime. In my opinion athlete’s salaries are way too high for what they’re doing. They are just entertaining people around the world and should not get millions of dollars for it. There are a lot of people in this world that work harder than athletes and have jobs that benefit society and don’t get paid as much as athletes do. People who have jobs and make an impact on society should make more money than athletes that are just entertaining
The salaries of athletes were only peanuts twenty to thirty years ago compared to what their salaries are today. However, in my opinion, I believe the world of sports in the United States is far from reasonable when it comes to athletes’ salaries. Many fans are outraged with the high priced contracts given to professional athletes these days. I can’t blame them, many athletes are making more money in just one year than the average citizen will make in their lifetime. Though economics is key in the understanding of why athletes earn such tremendous salaries, but it still fails to explain why they actually deserve it. The justification is that the high salaries distinguish the “stars” from the “normal players,” however I feel that these salaries are not at all reflective of an athlete’s economic importance. Their salaries keep increasing because they know that the public will continue paying for it. I argue that the time commitments these athletes make do not in any way justify their salaries. Teachers, doctors, lawyers, even the president of the United States of America’s time are also valuable to our everyday lives in order to keep the world moving and to better society and yet their salaries don’t justify their time
Athletes are way overpaid for what they do. Americans are struggling to make make a living because to live is costly you have to make mortgage payments, students loans,, groceries, clothes, and shoes. Even finding good employment that pays good money can be hard. Professional athletes do work hard, and do deserve a decent amount of money but should they really be making as much as they do for swinging a bat, for shooting a three pointer, or kicking a ball. The average American is paid less in a lifetime than a professional athlete in a year!
Should athletes receive the salary they make in 1 year? Athletes should make that amount of money because even though some people think athletes are paid too much because they think people who save lives are doing better deeds than athletes and some people think they deserve it because all of the bad things that could happen in a career of a football or any sport that is played that could be career ending for the athlete. Even though athletes earn more than people who risk their lives to save someone else’s, athletes are not overpaid because athletes have chronic health problems that take from their salaries, and some athletes donate money to charities for people who were affected by hurricanes or other bad event that happened.
