Pre-Medical Program Application Essay

Coming into high school, I was very involved in an organization called FFA(Future Farmers of America). Freshman year I was a “Greenhand” officer and competed in many different events. That same year I attended a speech contest and qualified for finals. I was also involved in choir for the first three years of my high school career and was able to have the opportunity to go to contest four times, in which each time I was able to pull off a high score. In my near future, I hope to attend Southwestern college and earn my teaching degree in early childhood education.

My personal goal for the upcoming year is to become more involved on campus and in the community. My freshman year I volunteered at the Royerton after school program and this made me realize how much I enjoy working with children and helping them in any way that I can.

“Final call girl’s four by eight-hundred-meter relay” called the official. The Ontario Track girl’s four by eight-meter team trooped up to lane one, in unison. I would not have wanted to be racing with anyone else but my relay family. We had trained all season for this one race. Every workout, asthma attack, tear, and shin splint has lead up to this one race to break a twenty year old school record. As we jogged with the official from the bullpen to the starting line, the crowd had uproars of excitement for the athletes. An immense smile grew across my face, not only from the ecstatic crowd, but from the anticipation to race. I approached the starting line, in the first lane, while my teammates arrayed along the fence with the other second,

“What are you even doing here? I have never seen such flawed technique in all my years as a choreographer.” The words echoed throughout the medical college auditorium. Impelled by the admonishment in front of my peers, I persevered in my endeavor to improve upon my dancing prowess and by the final year of medical school was leading the college dance team. The above mentioned undertaking further spawned an interest for the discipline of Latin Ballroom which lead to participation at the national level. The unwavering focus and persistence even in the face of unfavorable odds is more broadly reflective of my approach towards learning, both academic and extracurricular. This has been instrumental in achieving stellar academic outcomes including being ranked nationally in the top 0.0004 percent in the premedical test and the top 0.6 percent in the common aptitude test for management training.

Most importantly, in addition to achieving my personal goals, the major goal in my life is to become an active functioning member in society. As a doctor I will give back to the community by volunteering to host blood drives or going to third world countries to deliver vaccines to the poor. However, on top of being a doctor I hope to give back to the community through my Eagle project and other service projects I have worked on. I am proud to go to Boy Scout meetings and help the younger Scouts achieve their goals of ranking up. With Boy Scouts I have had multiple opportunities to give back to the community. I remember on during this past winter during the Christmas Tree fundraiser we helped an older lady who could not lift her tree outside of her living room. With the help of a few other scouts we took off several ornaments, left on the tree, and carried the tree down to the curb. I am looking forward to continuing these experiences with Scouts, after I achieve the Eagle Rank.

I plan to attend California State University, Long Beach this fall and hope to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Volunteering in my community throughout high school has allowed me to meet and help many different people and made me realize how important it is to give back to my community. This has inspired me to continue my education and to open my very own medical clinic

To help guide others to do our best by trying to reduce bullies, stress, and etc... Help people that I don't know by running fundraisers for the homeless people and help people get their life started. For as long as I've remembered I've always wanted to help people and protect the men and women that need it by standing up to the bullies that think they are better than others. I believe that with this program I could get started with that and actually make a difference in peoples

I currently work for a non-profit health clinic that was specifically created to assist those in the migrant farm working community and low income families. I hope to make people from my community proud and show them that I am working for them as much as I am a part of them. I am also currently working on my MBA and getting close to graduating. Going into college at Ohio State my intentions are to have a career in public service. Through multiple internships thus far I have found a passion in serving for people. Growing up I have always felt the need to make an impact and give back to the community. Eventually, I hope to represent my community, the people of it, and those who are in need of representation. No matter what career path I choose, I hope to leave a legacy behind that will help the greater good.

I see community service as the key element to my future. I believe that each person should leave the world a little better than how they found it. Community service has held a huge part of my life already. I currently am very involved with a program called Candlelighters. Candlelighters is a program that works with cancer patients and their families. As a part of the Candlelighters program I have seen many children lose their lives to cancer. Each child has left a mark on my heart, and I am a better person for knowing them.

Going to a medical school in Cairo, Egypt, shaped my mindset and helped me see things from a different prospective. During my clinical training I served a poor and uninsured population. I saw people who were suffering and dying every day from preventable diseases due to lack of resources and health services. This made me understand the humanitarian nature of our profession. I knew that I had a responsibility to fulfill.

"I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say 'Because of you I didn't give up.'" As long as I can remember I can remember I've had a love for sports and being active. Once I started softball and basketball, I have been constantly on the go. When I was in 8th grade I injured my knee and had to undergo ACL and meniscus surgery. After the surgery I had to go through physical therapy, and once I was there I realized I had a true interest in that field. I would really love to be able to help people the way they helped me and change peopled lives for the better.

Throughout life one will encounter many experiences and there is a lesson within each of those experiences. Right now as an activity aide in a nursing home my passion is to make sure each and every resident gets some sort of enjoyment out of their day whether it’s from reading the newspaper, having coffee outside or its getting their nails painted. I just want to make sure their day has some activity that they enjoy. My dream job after graduation is to work in a hospital in the palliative care/hospice as a social worker. First, I plan on finding a job as a marketing analyst or chemist. This will allow me to earn a stable salary, so I can assist my mother in supporting my younger siblings. Next, I plan on dedicating a large part of my time to working with non-profit organizations that focus on helping low-income youth in various forms, such as mentorship or job shadowing.
