Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations. A situation, in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome, is when investors were making decisions about the purchase of real estate. In 2006 the real estate market was giving signs of weakening where prior to that year it was booming, but investors were not thinking critically and creatively instead, they were greedy and they let greed make decisions for them. To make matters worse

The truth never changes. You make a choice based on a truth: If you don’t work you will be become a free rider in society.
Knowledge: Knowledge can change as new information is available. Ideas do not constitute knowledge unless they correspond to reality (Ruggiero, 2010, p.29).Now this knowledge of wanting to go to work corresponds to the reality of having a roof over your head or food on your table.
Opinion: “Opinions are intensely personal, so it is understandable that people have strong feelings about theirs. (Ruggiero, 2010, p.34). Your opinion may not be the truth but for an individual it is a personal view and not any one else’s.
Identify three hindrances to the critical thinking process. Determine methods for overcoming these hindrances. Identify a time in which you experienced a hindrance in critical thinking. Describe a method you could use to overcome the hindrances.
Hindrances: Resistance to change, conformity and self-deception.
Overcoming resistance to change: By having an open mind and welcoming, not necessarily accepting, many new ideas.
Overcoming Conformity: The right way to fight conformity is to think for yourself and not worry about how many people share your view.
Overcoming self-deception: Only when we are able to decide honestly what information we need
Critical thinking is an essential trait that every Army officer must possess. Officers must learn this trait and sharpen it through regular practice. The idea of critical thinking as a valuable aspect of the problem-solving process may seem daunting on the surface; however, it creates a more effective process in reaching crucial decisions for the Army officer. The critical thinking process, along with the elements of thought, used with the Army Problem Solving Process provides an established framework from which all involved parties benefit from because it enhances communication channels across all hierarchies. The elements of thought also provide thoroughness in thinking that closely align with the steps of the Army Problem Solving Process. In addition, the critical thinking process creates confidence in problem solving despite the challenges the problem presents. Therefore, it is quite evident that Paul & Elder’s Elements of Thought do assist Army officers in the conducting of the Army Problem Solving Process.

In this study, the professor asked 15 students in his Introductory Psychology class to volunteer to take the smart pill at the start of the semester. The other 15 students in the class who did not volunteer did not take the pill. This was not random assignment because this subject was not an unbiased division, and the professor didn’t create equal groups; therefore, it could affect the result. In general, volunteers do better than non-volunteers because volunteers have more motivation than the people who didn’t volunteer. For example, in the “tutoring study”, people who signed up for tutoring were doing much better than the people who did not sign up for tutoring because the people who sign up care about their grade; on

* The video clip “Thinking on the Job” in the Webtext this week illustrates the importance of critical thinking, especially in work contexts. Define the concept of critical thinking in your own words. Discuss a time in either your work or personal life in which you needed to be able to use critical thinking to either solve a problem or acquire a skill.
This Critical Thinking Assignment focuses on using the Systemctl, runlevel, and init commands that were discussed in this week’s classroom materials. Following the steps in this assignment will demonstrate how these commands can be used from the shell prompt of Linux to manage the boot process and restart options of a test Linux virtual machine (VM). This report will document the process of completing each step and include screenshots where applicable to demonstrate the results of each step.
Reporter: A new campaign finance reform bill being considered by Congress would limit the amount of campaign contributions that political candidates can receive. However, a survey of candidates running for mayor, governor, and senate seats shows that not one of them favors the bill. Clearly, there is no desire among politicians to limit campaign contributions.
In Chapter 3, there were 12 areas of bias spread across the 3 areas of heuristics. The main theme of the text was to prove that we are predisposed to certain outcomes. As we make important decisions we rely on our memory, or a number of past events, or even ignoring facts. Overall, we are biased in many ways when it comes to making decisions, or predicting outcomes of a particular event.
Critical thinking is essential in business and in every aspect of life. The more time spent thinking critically about an issue or problem allows the thinker time to generate a response and a course of action. A person that thinks critically about a decision before acting has the best chance of getting optimal results. Team-A has completed the Thinking Critically simulation and has reviewed the results as a group determining that in business, thinking critically can make the difference between success and failure. In the following critique, we will discuss the problem evaluation tools and techniques from the simulation and compare those to the tools and techniques that we would have used in this scenario. Team-A will describe the

The main concepts presented in the article are the varying definitions of each author on the concept of critical thinking. The information the author uses are definitions which are the opinions of varied authors and are similar in foundation in that to apply critical thinking one must be able to identify a problem, pose a question(s), provide valid supporting evidence, and come to a conclusion. Although the author’s definitions do not identify a problem, questions, evidence, or conclusions, the relationship Petress (2004) shows is that the reader must apply this process themselves as it is not always given. The information used does appear to be relevant, significant, and valid. The references the author listed does provide enough information for me to come to this conclusion. Since this work is a literature review and not a case study, numerical data are not necessary to determine validity of the information.
Critical thinking is a vital task that must be done in our everyday lives. In “Becoming a Critic Of Your Thinking” found at criticalthinking.org, Dr. Linda Elder and Dr. Richard Paul explain critical thinking as “the disciplined art of ensuring that you use the best thinking you are capable of in any set of circumstances”. Even tough there are many different types of methods to achieve a better quality of critical thinking, Dr. Elder and Dr. Paul discuss four specific ones in the article. All strategies, however, force you to put yourself in an uncomfortable and difficult position to develop a better quality of thinking.

As adults, we may enter into careers that require us to use critical and creative thinking skills. In the workplace, situations such as teamwork, presentations, and crises require us to use those skills. In my previous employment, I was a crisis outreach worker working specifically with individuals who were developmentally disabled. I often received calls from individuals who either lived with a caretaker, particularly a family member, alone or in a care home. With every call that I received, there was always a new challenge. However, there was always that one client whom I would receive calls from for repetitious behavior.
The process of critical thinking requires you to ask more questions of both others and of yourself before a decision or determination is made. In order to successfully evaluate data in a critical manner, you must have a system in place to assess information as it is presented. In any situation whether you are having a conversation, observing others, or material you have read, you must be ready to probe deeper and ask the right question at the right time.
