With the popular culture providing positive images of guns, the United States has a gun prevalence that is very rare in the modern world. While many people appreciate the “gun culture”, guns are heavily involved in violence in the United States. According to U.S. Department of Justice, since 1960, more than 750,000 Americans have died under firearms, including homicides, suicides, and unintentional injuries. The figure 1 provides a comprehensive survey of U.S. violent crimes for the period from 1993 to 2011.This figure illustrates that from 1993 to 2011, about 60% to 70% of homicides were associated with a firearm. Over the same period, between 6% and 9% of all nonfatal violence, with about 20% to 30% of robberies and 22% to 32% of aggravated assaults involving a firearm.

Everyday 93 Americans are killed by guns. Whether it is due to homicide or suicide, it does not matter. At the end of the day gun violence is increasing exponentially. In numerous states, gun laws have been placed in the hopes of reducing gun violence. But now many people believe that gun violence should be treated as a public health problem. I for one feel that gun violence should be put in the category of public health. Every year more than 30,000 people are victims to gun related incidents. It has become such an issue that gun violence is causing more deaths than some life threatening diseases.

As we all know gun violence has become an increasingly conflicted issue in the world and specifically in the United States. Gun violence is the leading cause of premature death in the United States as it kills almost 30,000 people and causes about 60,000 injuries annually. But guns are not the main cause of this problem. The problem is America's culture of violence. We need to understand that guns are not what’s killing people, people are what’s killing people. There have been a lot of shootings and there has to come a day where everything has to stop gun violence. Recently there has been a shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. There was recently a mass shooting on October 1, 2017. At about 10:08 p.m. a country concert was active in Las Vegas. Everybody was enjoying their day and the music, they were having so much fun but little did they know what was about to happen. A shooter came out in front of 22,000 people from the 33rd floor. Killing at least 59 people and leaving 500 wounded. It was a very sad thing to hear because there was so many people who lost their life without even having any clue that they were going to die that day. So many people as well got seriously hurt during this incident that this one man caused. There was innocent people who shouldn’t have gone through what happened that day. Now there will be more security to make sure things like this don’t happen anymore or to at least help gun violence decrease. They listed this as an attack but it should be counted as a terrorist attack no matter the color of skin.

In the recent months, gun violence has become more common than ever. It seems that we cannot go a day without turning on the news and learning of a shooting. As a society, we are worried for our safety and question whether or not guns should be held by everyday non-government citizens. It seems that individuals turn to guns when they are not heard and are upset by other events.

Gun violence has made quite an appearance on social media and major news outlets in America this year. When the Second Amendment was created it generated a permanent bond between citizens and gun. As a result of this many citizens take pride in owning a gun for mainly self-defense and recreational uses. However, this is a big issue due to all of the violence that has been occurring due to people exercising their “right to bear arm” and the loopholes in the nation’s gun laws. The debate of whether gun control laws should be enforced or not began in 2002, when at least 20 children were killed in a mass shooting in Connecticut. On average, 96 deaths occur daily and about 13,000 gun homicides strike the U.S. yearly. The origines for America’s extensive ties to guns originates from the Second Amendment, revolutionary roots, and frontier expansion. According to a New York Times article, in 2016, in every 100,000 deceased, 12 have died because of a gun. Using the U.S. population, about 38,800 people die due to a gun per year. As seen from the statistics in the article, violence from the misuse of gun privileges are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, much higher than knives and other weapons that are used to attack. Although guns are able to protect its owner, it does not justify the harm and danger that could establish. In addition, in 2016, researchers from across the United States reviewed more than 130 studies from 10 countries on gun control. The study did not look at only one specific scenario, but rather a variety of different kinds of gun control. The evidence is clear: “The simultaneous implementation of laws targeting multiple firearms restrictions is associated with reductions in firearm deaths.” Therefore, in order to help prevent the deaths of thousands of children, women, and men the US should enforce stricter, tougher gun control laws.

In the United States, there are many characteristics that we as americans pride ourselves with being known. Such as our copious amounts of food, our strong car game, our freedoms, our history, and our guns. Americans have had access to guns since the dawn of the colonies, one of our first amendments gives us the right to bear arms, and the fact has given rise to the debate about gun control. With many pro gun control saying things such as “More gun control laws would reduce gun deaths”, Stated by ProCon.org, statements like this are false in and out. For it is the gun user that is responsible for death, gun deaths are the result of criminal activity. This is why in America, gun control shouldn’t be altered no matter what, everyone should have a means to defend themselves with.

In recent years gun violence has increased significantly in various parts of the world. There are more cases of children and young adults engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfire. Is there anyone to blame ? There has been debate over whether gun laws are strict enough and what else can be done to reduce such acts from occurring. With more lives being affected on a regular basis, more concerns arise as to how people can live safe lives when guns are being used in increasing numbers. It is shameful to say that almost every day you hear about some sort of gun violence affecting people either in your hometown or in another part of the world. It is clear that more guns leads to more deaths. A research conducted by Harvard Injury Control Research Center shows that where there are more guns, there is a high risk of homicide across states in USA (assault, robbery, quarrel…). Moreover, the mortality rate related to firearm accident in 4 states with the most guns are 4 times higher than 4 states with the fewest guns

Violence is an unfortunate effect of the human condition, but that doesn’t mean that gun violence is acceptable; It also doesn’t give the government a right to infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights. In areas of the world where guns are banned from private ownership there is still gun violence. It may be lesser there than in those areas where private ownership is allowed, however the gap in gun violence is usually filled by homicide all the same.
