I am in the 49er rebound program because of the events that happened during the spring semester of 2016. I transferred to UNC Charlotte from Sandhills Community College and came in as a sophomore. Because of the fact that I came in the middle of the school year, I was unaware of all the on campus resources that are available to me. Long story short, I ended up on academic probation and am in this class in hopes of getting off of it while obtaining new positive academic habits. Personal academic goals for this semester: Throughout this semester I plan to pass all of my classes with a B average or above. In order to achieve this goal, I know that I need to practice better study habits and attend class even when I am having rough days. Another goal that I have is to be a better forty-niner. Since I live off campus, I did not put the effort into doing …show more content…
My financial issues are mainly caused by tickets. When I get a ticket, I face the issue of finding a way to pay for it. Then I become extremely stressed, and always think worst case scenarios. Eventually, I end up working more hours to make the money to pay off my tickets. I put work before school, which leads to more problems. I believe if I found a way to better manage my stress I could diminish the obstacles I create for myself. Strengths: One of my biggest strengths is time management. Over the years I have learned that good time management skills are a vital skill when dealing with the trials of classes, work, friendships, and family. I will use this strength to successfully manage all of these trials. One other strength I acquire is determination. I have set goals for myself, and I will push myself to achieve these goals. All in all, my strengths may be great but I feel as if they fall short when I am going through difficult times. Since this has been brought to my attention, I plan to work towards changing how this affect me.
An experience in a biomedical research will help me to succeed in my long-term educational goals. My long-term goal is to attend a MD-PHD program at a Medical School. As a scientist, I would like to study the genetics of disease causing organisms and human genetics. Currently, I am studying Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, which I think will equip me with a knowledge of human biochemistry. However, since undergraduate schools mainly focus on theoretical not the practical application of most subjects, I need to participate in a hands on research project over the summer because It will give me an opportunity to apply my knowledge in a laboratory. This is when the summer research program at the University of Maryland school of medicine
Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
I would consider myself very an incredibly driven person, both academically, and in my personal goals. Throughout my educational career, I have consistently strived to achieve the most I could. For me, this meant high academic achievements, honors accolades and achieving the goals that I set my mind to. I have a very strong intrinsic drive to seize every opportunity I’m given. To guarantee I didn’t close any doors to my future I applied to as many colleges as I could instead of staying in my comfort zone and applying to schools I was guaranteed admission to. One of the biggest ways that I am a go-getter is the fact that I faced rejection head on from top schools in the country. For me, it was better to try than always wonder “what-if” even though the process became extremely disheartening at times. I pushed myself throughout the admissions process to have as many opportunities as possible. Additionally, I have an innate desire to learn new things and grow through my education. I have pushed myself to take challenging Advanced Placement electives in subjects I am passionate about and I am eager to begin college to continue increasing my knowledge in certain fields. In college, my biggest goal is to graduate in three years. While this new challenge may be difficult to achieve as my degree plan involves two majors in Anthropology and Communications and a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies I also understand how rewarding it will be to complete my studies in an
As a six-year veteran of the US Army, I have taught and instructed people from multi-cultural backgrounds, vastly different education levels, and without regard to age all while traversing language barriers, cultural, and social norms, with great success. In my pursuit to continuously better myself, I have dedicated my educational goals to understanding what motivates people in the dynamic environments they find themselves. As well, my graduate thesis, titled “The Ethical Choice: Who Should Decide the Fate of Youth Sexual Assault Victims Who Become Pregnant?” gave me an impeccable foundation in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
My long term academic goal is to graduate from college with a four year degree, then continue on to pursue an MD and PhD. I hope to be able to attend Columbia University, where I can enroll in the university’s MD/PhD program after graduation. Of course, there are many other schools that also offer an MD/PhD program for graduate students, but Columbia University is my top choice of colleges. The MD/PhD program will allow me to attain a solid background both in the hospital and in research laboratories. This will be a necessity for my career goals, as I wish to work in a research lab somewhere in the city, possibly at Columbia or in the facilities that coordinate with the work going on there. Asides from Columbia, I am preparing to apply to several
From the time I was able to realize what college was, all my mother and father talked about was scholarships and how much they would benefit me. My mother would often sign me up for SAT and ACT prep classes, but I never truly took full advantage of it. As I grew older the word “Scholarship” had a greater meaning. A scholarship would mean me getting to go to the college of my dreams, being surrounded by people with the same goals as me, it also means being able to lift a burden off my parent’s shoulders.
First, I will discuss the strengths that I have accumulated over the years of my life. Patience being my biggest strength has indeed helped with many problems through life. I have worked on this strength by creating a hobby of putting together puzzles along with other
My educational goal is to be the first child in my family to graduate with a degree at the age of 42 and continue to get my BA in Social Work. My passion and career goal is to help those that are less fortunate and have a drug addiction problem. The steps I have made are being enrolled in the Human Services program at Chemeketa Community College, in the Addictions Field. I currently have one year left and start my practicum in the Spring of 2017. As a single mother of a six-year-old daughter and twenty-year-old son, they motivate me to become a better role model in their life. Not only do they motivate me, but I hope they become motivated by seeing my accomplishment and will attend college to become something amazing as well. My past life was
I am pursuing college education because I know it is the way to have a comfortable life in the future. I learned, in the world we live in today we need education. I am grateful to have fee waiver and I will not take it for granted because without it I don’t think I’ll be able to pay my tuition by myself. But if necessary I would work full time and be a part time student just to be able to achieve education.
me, and there is nothing more I would want to do than to give back to the community.
Coming to the U.S, I had the opportunity that my parents and most people could only dream of. I had the opportunity to pursue and further my education in one of the greatest countries in the world. The U.S. Henceforth, coming at the age of nine, I had planned and knew what I wanted to do as soon as I arrived. I wanted to become a lawyer, a Law Enforcement Officer with the FBI, and join the U.S. Marines. But most importantly, I want to open my own Non- Profit Organization whose aim would be to help individuals who are homeless, living in third- world countries, and to provide those individuals with educational opportunities to help them advance their future. In able to achieve these goals of mine, academically, I hope to participate in clubs such as Debate, Student Government, possibly double major in either Political
What are my educational goals? Well, being a seventeen year old African American female, I know that there will be many opportunities that will soon come my way. Even though it is going to be hard; I know my hard work and dedication that I put forth everyday my dreams will come true. My main two educational goals would to apply to all the Ivy League colleges, and hopefully get accepted. I just want to prove to others that if you put in the work you need to, you definitely will be awarded in the end. Then when I get out of college pursuit my dream of being a forensic scientist. I already know that I want to major at either being a Forensic Pathologists, or Criminalistics. This started every since I started watching CSI shows. I know that this

At the onset of the semester in Curriculum Issues, CIED 5053, I was asked to identify what I wanted to accomplish this semester and to distinguish intellectual and professional goals for myself. At that time I had never had the opportunity to discover how history, special interest groups and, societal beliefs and situations, define and mold, not only curriculum, but also beliefs about the education system. I have enjoyed being able to widen my understandings and horizon through my studies, writings, interactions and collaborations that have been offered to me in this course.
Through a lot of soul searching, and self realization, I have decided to pursue a degree in communications, and women’s studies. I’ve always had a natural ability to connect with people on personal, and professional levels. Working with people of all different ages, genders, communication abilities, and cultural backgrounds has guided me towards an educational path I feel that I will flourish in. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with strong women in my life that have passed so many life skills to me. Confidence, leadership skills, and the ability to speak out for things that I believe in have lead me to these educational goals. I also plan to continue striving for great grades, that will keep me on the deans list. My educational goals will help me succeed in my professional, and life goals of working with people, and helping them succeed. I am optimistic towards my future, and how western could help guide me towards a career path.
