For the death penalty
Four persuasive arguments for why I am for the death penalty.
Not for the Death penalty.
Three arguments that are against the death penalty.
Conclusion paragraph clarifying my position and address potential arguments made against my position.
When someone commits a Part I crime, the world is in difference on how the law enforcement and justice systems should handle the criminals punishment. Should the criminal be put on death row or should they spend their life rotting away in a cell? I believe, given the terrible acts that some members of the society commit against innocent people, the death penalty must exist. For some, families, friends, and even communities

First, it can be seen as a warning. Therefore, if people are planning to commit a Part I crime, but are aware that they will be put to death should they commit the crime, many of them may be less likely to commit crime or they may not commit crime at all in the first place.
Secondly, to some point, it can provide closer for recovering victims, family members, or peers. In most criminal cases, the suspect’s get caught, tried, and convicted. Knowing their punishment will be quiet severe is one thing, but the murder has already greatly affected family and friends of the victim. Even though the murder’s execution may not take away that horrible pain they caused families and others, it tends to relieve them knowing they no longer have to think about the horrific experience and the person who caused it.
Third, it does not always have to be painful and cruel. Most everyone can agree that cruelty should not be legally condoned and most American executions hardly ever go wrong. There are some executions that seem to shut off the brain more quickly than it can register the pain, for example: the electric chair, hanging, lethal injection, and firing

First, it tends to be very hypocritical. People tend to be against the death penalty because it seems misfitting that a nation would condemn the practice of murder by committing the same act. To some, it seems by executing the criminal we are dishonoring the right of life by taking it. It’s true, we aren’t killers and we don’t want to be labeled as a killer either, but depending on the seriousness of the crime it may be the best option to execute.
Second, prison tends to be known as “Hell on Earth.” Depending on the crime one has committed, they could be in more danger staying in prison than being executed. If not executed, there is a large chance they could either be greatly harmed or killed inside the cell. In many prison’s a “code of honor” has been formed that requires inmates to kill certain offenders.
Lastly, it doesn’t teach the condemned anything. Most criminals are sentenced to life in prison, which then prevents them of their freedom and from doing what they want to do. It is a punishment, and we do it, hoping that they will learn from it. To put it simply, we cannot restore a criminal to the normality of life by killing them
When released they go back out in society and commit the same crime or a crime worse than before. Sentencing them to life in prison places other prisoners and staff at risk. When placed in jail knowing they have nothing else to lose with a life sentence, society has now let a murderer free in jail to murder at will. However, if released into society you now put an entire population of individuals at risk. Wesley Lowe, author of “The Morality of Capital Punishment:” on the “ Pro Death Penalty Webpage,” states the following, “The recidivism rate for capital punishment is zero. No executed murderer has ever killed again. You can’t say that about those sentenced to prison even if you are an abolitionist”(27).
In this paper I will be discussing everything you need to know about the death penalty such as its pros and cons. While the innocent can be killed, the death penalty has its pros because it prevents them from killing again if they are released or have escaped from prison, it helps overpopulated prisons, and it can help victims’ families get justice and closure. Not only can the innocent be killed, but in the past the death penalty was very inhumane. To some its feels right but to others they feel like 2 wrongs don’t make a right. Most people think that the defendant deserves the death penalty, but what does the defendants’ family think?
The death penalty is a topic that has been argued for and against by many people. Some have no qualms with the punishment while others protest it greatly. As such there are three main arguments that are presented by both sides; is the death penalty immoral, does the death penalty deter crime, and should the death penalty ultimately be allowed in the court of law.
The death penalty is something many people face each day . There is approximately 1,188 people that were executed in the U.S from 1977 through 2009 . There are many ways on how to execute someone, but primarily we use the lethal injection. The way people are trailed and put on the death penalty, is because of the involvement with first degree of murder, or other crimes. Proponents say that the death penalty is an important tool for preserving law and order. They also argue a term “an eye for an eye” which means that it helps the families grieving, and ensure that they don’t release back to the public for future tragedy. The people against the death penalty say that it is wrong to take a human life, and has no effect on crime. Many of the death row inmates prefer death over life in prison. They say that many death row inmates have been volunteering for their executions. Over 75 inmates have volunteered for their death sentence. This is called a state-assisted suicide. Many inmates said that they would rather gamble on being executed than having life parole. Many inmates say that they spend over a decade awaiting execution. Some prisoners have been in death row for 20 years. They usually are isolated from other prisoners and spend as much as 23 hours alone in their cells. The two punishments they receive other than the death penalty is the living conditions they live in prison. They are usually in a state where they would be executed and,
Why is the death penalty used as a means of punishment for crime? Is this just a way to solve the nations growing problem of overcrowded prisons, or is justice really being served? Why do some view the taking of a life morally correct? These questions are discussed and debated upon in every state and national legislature throughout the country. Advantages and disadvantages for the death penalty exist, and many members of the United States, and individual State governments, have differing opinions. Yet it seems that the stronger arguments, and evidence such as cost effectiveness, should lead the common citizen to the opposition of Capital Punishment.
The debate on whether or not the death penalty should be abolished has been ongoing for quite a long period of time. While there are those who believe that the death penalty does not serve its intended purpose, proponents of the same are convinced that the relevance of the same cannot be overstated and hence it should not be abolished. In this text, I examine the arguments for and against the death penalty.
Many families want to see the criminal who killed or raped their family members suffer. They don't want to live life knowing its possible for them to do that to someone else. The goverment believes in certain situations that them using the death penalty will allow others to see what could happen to them if they commit that same crime. If the criminal can kill someone, then they will most likely kill someone else and it can be prevented. In today's world there is many who kill, rape, and do serious crimes who do not get the punishment they deserve. Of course not in all cases is execution the way to go, but in certain cases many would have to agree it could be neccessary.
The death penalty is one of the greatest controversial punishments in the world. There are numerous people who agree with this practice and plenty more who do not agree and believe we should be done with it all together. Some important credential people who give compelling arguments for abolishing the death penalty is Diann Rust-Tierney and Barry Scheck, whereas; the people against abolishing it is Robert Blecker and Kent Scheidegger.
The death penalty, or capital punishment, has always been a topic of much debate in the United States. There are those who support it and those who oppose it, and each side has their fair share of points being made, backed by supportive evidence. The topics range from the morality of this punishment, including the methods of execution as well as fairness issues in regards to sex and race. The first issue that will be addressed is in regards to the death penalty working to prevent violent crimes.
As Cass R states… “Capital punishment may be morally required, not for retributive reasons, but rather to prevent the taking of innocent lives”. Death penalty is one of those extreme punishments that would create fear in the mind of any person. If murderers are sentenced to death and executed, potential murderers will think twice before killing for fear of losing their own life.
The death penalty is one of the most controversial forms of punishment in the United States criminal justice system. For many, the death penalty seems like a way to gain retribution, and to help make this country a better place, however there are many reasons why the death penalty is also not a good thing. My main points that I’m going to talk about for my paper is why I don’t believe in the death penalty. Throughout the paper the reader will be able to understand exactly what the death penalty is, the pros and cons of the death penalty, and eventually be able to depict for themselves whether the death penalty is “good” or not.
According to Listverse “the execution (death penalty) does engender a feeling of relief at no longer having to think about the ordeal.” Clouser has changed the way we talk about the rationale for the death penalty. Families of the victim most of the time take years to recover from the loss of their loved one. The death penalty helps this by taking the life of a person who committed a crime and provides closure to the victim's family. Families of the victim most of the time take years to recover from the loss of their loved one. Life in prison just means the criminal is still around to haunt the victim's family. A death sentence brings finality to a horrible episode in the lives of the victim's family. The institution of capital punishment or also known as the death penalty must exist to give closure to the victim’s
The way we carry out these executions is by lethal injection, which is much more humane than any ways we have carried it out in historical times (McCuen 27). A prison official had claimed, “The guy will just go to sleep forever. It will be easy-real easy” (49). He says said this when referring to a man who was on death row. By using lethal injection, the United States is ridding itself of criminals, and is carrying it out in the most humane way possible (Kurtz). Professor John McAdams of Marquette University said, “If we execute murderers and there is in fact no deterrent effect, we have killed a bunch of murderers. If we fail to execute murderers, and doing so would in fact have deterred other murderers, we have allowed the killing of a bunch of innocent victims. I would much rather risk the former. This, to me, is not a tough call” (Marzilli 21).
Death penalty should be scrapped because it can lead to the execution of innocent people. The justice system is bound to make mistakes and so, the accused people should be given a chance to appeal, and prove their innocence other than being murdered because of mistakes made by judges. There are many cases whereby individuals are imprisoned and
Death punishment, gives closure to the people involved with the tragedy. It helps to the overpopulation problem in the prison system, instead keeping an intern 25 years or more. Finally, people who received the death punishment usually are not able to be rehabilitated. If these people have the opportunity they will kill, rape, and torture again. There are many factors that make murders incapable to
