The 1920’s was a very upbeat and interesting decade. People know it as the “Roaring Twenties”, or “The Jazz Age.” It was the time of Prohibition, the introduction to jazz music, and partying. Prohibition was the illegal production and distribution of alcohol. Many people were against drinking, but there were still the many that enjoyed a drink once in a while. Bootleggers were people who illegally sold and produced alcohol so other people could enjoy it in secret. People went to speakeasies, which were secret hidden bars that sold alcohol they got from the bootleggers. Young women began rebelling by cutting their hair short, wearing dresses

The 1920s were an age of dramatic social and political changes. The nation's wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, this economic growth swept along many Americans into a wealthy but also a unfamiliar spot this left some Americans uncomfortable with the new changes. Most Americans brought more conflict then celebration in the 1920s. However a small portion of people in the big cities were roaring about these new changes. People from coast to coast bought the same goods, listened to the same music, danced the same dances, and also had some experience with each other slang.

As a nation coming out of a devastating war, America faced many changes in the 1920s. It was a decade of growth and improvements. As immigrants fled from Europe, the economy improved, and new machines offered convenience and luxury from the kitchen to the streets. However, with all change comes opposition. The 1920s revealed a conflict between traditional America and the new attitude and lifestyle through the changing role of women, continued dominance of Christian values, and racism.

In the years following World War I, the United States was comfortable with returning to its prior state of traditional values. In the government, this was reflected as the 1920 election was won by Republican candidate Harding, who ran with the slogan “A Return to Normalcy.” Americans simply wanted to recuperate after the intense global conflict that had just ended; however, changing and new attitudes were at battle with their desire of normalcy. It was movements like “New Morality” that contested traditional stances of those who sought security in their lives. As a result of the constant battle between old and new values, tensions were mounting between citizens. The Roaring Twenties was a time of innovation in American life; however, tensions surfaced between traditional and new values, shown through court rooms, national politics, grass roots campaigns, and media revolutions, due to a rise in differing theological views, women’s fight for independence, racial conflict, technology, and advertising.

The 1920’s were a very important era in America for better or worse. There were many issues in relation to race and how people of different ethnic groups were treated. African American had a cultural rejuvenation that being the Harlem Renaissance. The advent of the Ford Model T change the way how people traveled. Many may say an era like the 1950’s were highly comparable. Race related issues were on a decline as America as whole sought to be more accepting and the oppressed started to speak out on it. While some may argue that the 1920’s and the 1950’s were similar time periods, you can say they were different due to how the way minority ethnic groups were treated and the new consumerist lifestyles of people in the 1950’s. The 1920’s, was a decade of change, when Americans owned cars, radios and other electronics for the first time. The cars brought great transportation and the need for new roads. The radio brought music and entertainment to all. Electronics became a wide phenomenon where it helped with things from transportation to cooking. The 1920’s was a new era which brought immense change to Americans but after WWI, the nation suffered with strikes and a targeted upon communists and foreigners. This was also the time of the red scare. The Red Scare had begun following the Bolshevik Russian Revolution of 1917; a nationwide fear of communists, socialists and anarchists.

The 1920s, also known as the “Roaring Twenties”, was a time period of great prosperity. During the 1920s, major changes occurred. The Twenties marked the start of a new lifestyle for the world, in which styles such as appearances were different, the system of money changed, and things were viewed much differently than they were in past generations. There was a major shift in living conditions when people went from living in rural areas to urban areas, in which the “big city” became the center of affairs. Although the 1920s were a new and exciting time period, they caused much conflict for the people of past generations who were not used to this great change.

I think that the issues of immigration and prohibition fed into the rise of intense cultural conflict in the 1920s. The "Roaring Twenties" had a huge impression on America as a cultural movement that praised the growth of celebrities, and relaxed social expectations regarding behavior. Wider social acceptance of women and people of color, along with a condition in which a lack of laws was socially accepted and even encouraged had caused many Americans to flee to a more socially rigid form of identity.

The 1920’s was a great and important decade for the United States. After World War I, the United States went through events and changes that, overall, made the United States a much better place to live. New advances in technology and industry improved American life in more ways than just one. Americans had better wages during this time, more leisure time, and overall, had a better life than ever before. In addition, the 1920’s advocated social and cultural change as well. During this time period, the United States did not return to Normalcy, and instead developed attitudes that changed the life of the people of the United States forever thanks to social changes, cultural changes and changes in technology.

The 1920s was a huge time period for the United States. Modern technology such as automobiles, radios, and advertisement had taken America by storm. Rural areas were on the decline. American cities had attracted not only rural and urban citizens, but also people from all over the world. In America during the 1920s, citizens struggled with accepting other races and ethnicities into their widely populated country.

The 1920’s was not a negative time. Many groups that were not expected before started to stand up for themselves to get equal rights. “ Many Blacks began to take pride in their ethnicity and great outpouring of art, literature, and music from the hearts and minds of African Americans lifted not only Black cultures but all of America”( The Twenties: a decade of Turmoil). This period was all about culture of different groups and people.There was tons of leaders standing up for groups.

The 1920’s was a decade that was different from all the others. People and companies moved away from large cities to smaller towns because of the automobile. The economy was booming and American’s bought things like crazy. There was an increase in productivity because of electricity and things like cars, radios, phones, and washing machines were introduced. Movies became the most popular pastime during this decade. Prohibition did not work in this decade and crime went unnoticed. This decade showed a mass amount of political and social change which caused it to be much different than any other.
