Throughout history there has been many great leaders. Each one of them had their own style and personality that made people want to follow them through good and bad time. Many people carry themselves trying to be like any of those people because they are great role models on how you should live your life. When reading about Nelson Mendrala in class I realized this was the kind of leader I wanted to be like. He was wise, good with working with people, and just a confident person overall. Through going through situation using Mandalas eight methods of leadership I realized that these strategies work really well in so many different situations. One of the situations we went over in our group was a situation about a leader of a committee running the senior prom. In this scenario the committee has only been given a certain amount of money to run the prom. Because of the limited money people have many ideas of what that money should be spent on. …show more content…
Some of us took more leadership roles than other but everyone was able to contribute and get their ideas across. We decided to do this topic because we felt that it had the most info for us to reflect on. Our process was very successful in this project. First we read the document and took notes. Then after we read we reflected on what we read and then took that conversation into the situations. When we had conflicts we were able to make rational decisions and compromise. Even though all of our conflicts we not handled well are group worked very well and there's not much to be changed. In conclusion, Nelson Mandela's leadership tactics influence many people's decisions and guide people into the right decision. We were able to use some of his tactics as we when through the activities in our group and it worked very well. Everyone of Minerals theories can be used in any situation. I hope after reading this you realize how important Mendrala is to leaders all over the
One very important thing that is talked about is the essence of leadership. Nelson, states that people are inspired to do greatness and so is everyone else by using the work of others. He only expects more of himself. This is what keeps him going every day and that’s how he keeps growing as a person.
Our world is filled with many successful leaders. The gift of being a leader can be learned; however some individuals have a natural born talent to be a leader. Each leader has his or her own unique leadership style. The gift of being a leader can be learned. Certain individuals are born with a charismatic style and can easily be a leader. A successful leader is one who can inspire and motivate people towards a goal. Martin Luther King Jr. was an individual with a born gift to lead people. The following paper will discuss how Martin Luther King Jr. was able to inspire and motivate people with his effective leadership style.
We all hope to have, and understand, the characteristics that an amazing leader possesses. There are many great leaders, spread throughout our history. Malcolm X, George Washington, and Martin Luther King Jr. are just a few people who were blessed with what it takes to step up and become true leaders. By example, some of the other fantastic qualities of leadership also make up two remarkable people: Nelson Mandela and Suleiman the Magnificent. They exhibited many leadership-like characteristics, like them being feared yet admired by their people, or people from other countries, or the fact that they were also very intelligent, and tactical.
Another group challenge we experienced was putting the first proposal together as we all have different methods of writing and explaining our topic. We each wrote a part of the paper and combined the input from each team member to created our final proposal. In addition, we took turns editing the document to assure the paper was flowing and all grammatical errors were
“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power” Abraham Lincoln. Leaders move their audience, create hope for them is a tough situation, and make sure they know the situation and how to handle it together. Jonathan Edwards and Patrick Henry were great examples of great leadership skills. Both gave speeches that many look at today and to read their speech that they preached about shows how powerful and moving they were to change everyone minds about their decisions is just amazing.
When sifting through history, books, and movies, it’s extremely hard to find a person who truly exemplifies a perfect leader. Each one invariably always has at least one flaw that they have to overcome to accomplish their task as leader. Whether that flaw is arrogance, insecurity, stubbornness, and/or many more, it ails them from guiding their people at some point in their life. However, regardless of the flaws many leaders have, there are still many great leaders out there, whether they are “good” or “bad.” Many of their flaws they have are outweighed by their great leadership skills and strong personalities. An example of a leader who is not even close to perfect, but he achieves so much through his leadership skills, is Ralph, a leader in Lord of the Flies.
When reflecting throughout America’s history, two people in particular exemplified the essence of true leadership traits, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. While others displayed a vast variety of traits, Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Nelson Mandela displayed traits of leadership that stood the test of time, and while today, their traits still influence, as well as affect people in today’s society. Throughout his time as political activist, as well as South Africa’s first African President, Nelson Mandela’s
Life is a gambler’s jamboree whereby everybody is given a trump card and the persons who would get leadership as their, would be the ones far ahead. They would be considered as elites. History is full of names that stands out from the rest and these are leader’s names like Julius Cesar, Napoleon. I consider myself to be rather fortunate to have had such a charismatic person in my life. Indeed he had that energizing force within him that boosted me. He gave me the confidence that I was under the guidance of someone who is credible and knowledgeable. He had not only inspired me to try new concepts and venture into the unknown territories that helped me develop both my personal and professional skills; but also boosted my self-esteem and gave me the psychological vantage point to be a problem solver and forged resilience in me.
The team’s evolution will challenge Christine’s adaptability with respect to her leadership traits and with the varying situational contingencies. As the designated Team Coordinator for the group, Christine’s role is to ensure that all team members have an understanding of the team’s goal, delegate and assign responsibilities, organize the group’s structure, convey the group’s purpose, delegate responsibilities, and establish a timeline for the groups’ goals (Hartzell, 2015). The five member team has five weeks to work cohesively on a group project in which the students are to analyze a case study, submit a written analysis, and present to the class, the groups’ analysis of the case study. Immediately the group’s development of the team’s life cycle stages is apparent. At the inception of their first group meeting, the team members’ personalities are revealed. This preliminary stage, known as the forming stage of team development, has two purposes, to become acquainted with each other and to understand the team goal (Hartzell, 2015). Unfortunately, Christine
In shaping my personal theory, I sought out my own definition of leadership. To do this, reflected on some of the leaders I admired such as Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Indira Gandhi, and Mahatma Gandhi, Why did I admire them? Were there any shared qualities they possessed? What I noticed with many of these leaders was their selflessness, their strong ethics and their ability to bring
Since leaders are unique characters, what they’ve acquired and how they implement it to define the future is unique as well. In fact, leaders are made at least by their experience, their understanding as well as application of their experiences as by any skills.
The characteristics of a leader like Ms. Jovita Carranza came through in her daily actions with those encircled by her personal and professional life experiences. Leaders come in all forms of varieties, genders, ethnicity and descriptors like Carranza. Carranza didn't stopped to think about some of the leaders that have inspired her or even some that have infuriated her, the qualities of her good leadership skills will became apparent through her professional growth with UPS. When we think about the characteristic of a leader, we often think of leaders that are ever-changing, which calls each of us to act or to follow. We could take on the prime example, such as Carranza. She had some of the values that we all inspire to follow, she had
Between all phases of this project, there is an overarching theme of teamwork. This class has shown how different people work together. This class consists of undergraduate students, living in different places, different schedules, and different skills and abilities still managing to meet deadlines and prevent any major failures as a class throughout the whole project. A major lesson I learned was how them leader-follower concept in projects. Also, I realized this concept is not as simple as one person is in control and everyone does as he or she says. As I went through this project, I learned that some people simply have no interest in taking the lead and have no problem doing work that is asked of them in a respectful manner. As for myself, I often do not like telling people what to do, nor being told what to do by my peers. However, it appears there must be some leadership and some following throughout parts of this project and not everyone is concerned with having a task assigned to them. This is a lesson that builds our writing process knowledge and I do not believe I could have learned it without hands-on experience and working with other people, such as an organization like the Gloria Gemma Foundation. I believe this is a perfect example of the learning outcome, Discourse Community Knowledge, due to our ability to format a document in accordance with what we believe the Gloria Gemma Foundation is hoping to see and meet their expectations. Along with the Foundation’s expectations, meeting the different groups we worked with standards and expectations was another major part. Such as, the Activities Outside the Gloria Gemma Building group. This team was given the task of determining prices and expenses of outdoor activities and our class had a designed budget format that we were supposed to follow, as a group, and expected to follow the standards we all agreed upon.
The Pharaohs, Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi. What do all these have in common… some of the most amazing demonstrations of leadership in time. Each of these leaders had a different way of leading. Throughout history there has always been two types of people. Those who followed, and those who were followed. Leadership can be seen as someone who takes control of a group, and leads them into being able to achieve a goal. With this being said leaders, wouldn’t be leaders if they didn’t have people to follow them. In life there are many chances, or opportunities to be a leader. Having a leader is essential to most tasks, and is a job that not many can do, because of all it requires. Being a leader means you need to be able to influence and take control of the people around you. Taking control, and influencing people to follow your lead isn’t black and white, being an effective leader comes from knowing what kind of leader you want to be. There has been many different ways leadership has been demonstrated, because not everyone is the same and not everyone wants the same results. Leadership comes in different kinds of styles, Authoritarian, Visionary, Transformational leadership are just a few styles of leadership. Although these are not all the styles that leadership has to offer, these ones are where the focus is going to be starting with the pharaohs, and there Authoritarian way of leading.
The importance of leadership is perfectly captured by the above African proverb. A leader can make a difference in whether a team is a success or a failure. The human history is full of examples that outline the significance of a leader, for good and for bad. Martin Luther King wasn’t the only one with a dream, but he was the only one who was able to articulate the dream with the nation and get people to follow his vision. Because of his leadership and his ability to empower people who agreed with his arguments, he was able to transform society and continue to inspire generations. But it’s crucial to note, leadership’s transformative powers are not always a force for good. History has also provided leaders such as Joseph Stalin, who’s leadership ended creating destruction and led to the deaths of millions of people. Nonetheless, the examples encapsulate the power of leadership.
