National Honor Society Graduation Speech

Good Evening,

I have the distinct pleasure of welcoming all of you into the National Honor Society, a group built off of high standards of achievement, not only in the area of academics but also in character and leadership. I congratulate each of you and your parents.

I am both honored and flattered to have been asked to speak for this wonderful occasion. As I started to draft this speech, I thought, “What is the world am I possibly going to say?” (The majority of you listen to me speak enough during the day.) The word SUCCESS came to mind.

When I was asked to be the speaker, I was flattered when they said “We want someone who was an Albemarle Middle School Honor Society Member and is now SUCCESSFUL today.” The comment was made by an adult near by, “But they want someone successful, and you are JUST A TEACHER.” …show more content…

Not TOO long ago, I too was sitting at a similar induction. Before I was known as Mrs. Davis (the Science teacher who gives out “erasers”), I was Brooke Davis, National Honor Society member here at Albemarle Middle School. I was also an Albemarle Cheerleader and athlete for most of my academic career. Everyone knows me as a BULLDOG and I proud to say I was one of you. Today I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in Instructional Technology. I have been a teacher in Stanly County for 6 years.

Is that success? What or who defines success? Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them.
