The NBA (National Basketball Association) is a major factor in sports. As the years have gone by the NBA has changed drastically. The players, jerseys, team names, and the teams logos. Many more things changed as well. The baskets changed, the court patterns, some rules, how the teams play and how they run things. Julius Erving one of the greats in the 70s has a unique style other players may not have had. Julius was more commonly known as Dr. J. Julius was one of the first NBA players to dunk from the free throw line. Nowadays we see many high fliers dunking from the charity stripe. Such as Zach lavine, Aaron Gordon, Giannis Antetokounmpo, we’ve also seen Michael Jordan and Serge Ibaka in past years and many others. Many people have enjoyed the NBA over the years and others have not been so fond of it. We’ve seen greats through the years and we’ve seen flukes. We’ve been with a team or player ever since he’s been in the league. Some fans are super fans some are people who just enjoy the thrill of a game. The NBA has also seen tragic injuries such as Paul George, Steve Nash, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, and many others. They rode with their player until full health always checking for news on them and seeing them. Injuries were a major thing in the past as well. People saw players playing with ice on their knees and other major joints like elbows and ankles. Players now and then have had major problems on their knees and ankles. Of the three major sports teams in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland Cavalier, for they joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the early 1970. The Cavaliers had a very rocky start with the first 15 years being a losing season, after losing season. While some fans blamed the owner at the time, as he had no clue what he wanted to do with the team. But in 1988 the Cavaliers put together a rather good team, that made it to the playoff. During the first round of the playoff the Cavaliers played the Chicago Bulls in the best of five series. In the 5th game the Cavaliers were leading with only second to go in the game, but as with other teams in Cleveland, it would happen again, Michael Jordon would hit a basket with only 2 seconds left on the clock, this basket would be known as the “shot”, as this is a common theme for Cleveland fans, that all heartbreaking plays are given a name. Again, after the 1988 season the Cavaliers would only have mediocre seasons until after the 2003 draft, as a hometown boy from Akron, Ohio, named LeBron James, was graduating from high school, although the Cavaliers were not guaranteed that they would have the first draft pick to sign James, but as fate would have it, the Cavs, ended up winning the draft lottery and signed this young man to play for the Cavaliers. From the beginning of James career as a basketball player
Larry Bird changed the NBA as a player. Larry Bird’s playing style. The NBA in the today is becoming a global powerhouse because basketball is being played all over the world. I may smile a little bit more, but the way we play the game of basketball was exactly the same because we would do anything to win. We didn't care about scoring points. We cared about winning the game and making our teammates better. That's why we were able to change not only basketball but able to change the NBA too.”
What these players fail to realize is that some kids can't handle the gaze of the crowd that watches the game, and that these kids can't focus on the game. Instead, these players focus on the gazes of the people and the comments the crowd makes; this can cause players to become extremely nervous and more likely to do nothing, and end up playing poorly. In an article written by Mark Hyman and Nathan Pitcock, writers for the New York Times, they state “More than a third said they had been yelled at or teased by fans; fifteen percent said their parents get angry when they play poorly" (Pitcock, Hymen 1). This quote shows that the player’s fear of preforming poorly, and how others may react to their performance, can cause young athletes to feel bad about themselves. Fans comments can affect the player’s confidence and their performance when they get worked up over what coaches and parents say. The pressure put on these young athletes can be too much and overwhelm them, which takes the joy out of the
I’m not so blinded by my love for Cleveland sports teams that I can’t admit: The Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA right now. That doesn’t mean I can’t hate them unconditionally.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) started up on June 6, 1946, and ever since then several rivalries in the game had began. A rivalry in the NBA consists of two teams that face off against each other that have a chip on their shoulders, and have the desire to do whatever it takes to bet the other team to show superiority. Some of the NBA's most famous rivalries include the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, and the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. So there are many intense rivalries in the NBA, but the Los Angeles Lakers and and the Boston Celtics are by the far the most historical.
In the 1970s the NBA was a parity it had all players to be treated equally. The 70s had a mixture of great players that were striving to be one of the best and they did accomplish that by becoming great in their respected teams. All decades past and present have their teams. The 1950s had the Minneapolis Lakers dominating most of that decade. The 1960s had been dominated by the Boston Celtics led by the great Bill Russell winning eleven championships with the Celtics. The 80s was dominated by two dynasties the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics with the Lakers coming up top on most of them. The 1990s the Bulls dominated most of it. It was led by the G.O.A.T himself Michael Jordan. In the present time the NBA is being dominated by the Golden State Warriors led by a group with Steph, Klay, Kevin, and Draymond. The 1970s didn’t really have any team to dominate that decade it was very well balanced their were 8 teams that came out victorious in that decade. Almost every basketball player in the National Basketball association is good, but every player isn't great at the game. Some players have great expectations for themselves, not for every player on the team. Some players look out for their entire team, taking on a bigger role and more responsibilities. Superstar basketball players play a bigger role in the game than non-superstars, though they both have something to achieve on and off of the court.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has transformed over the many of years as an organization and a brand, into a multibillion-dollar business that draws thousands and thousands of fans to each and every game. Many contributing factors have made the NBA what it is today, but the main cause of this gain in interest is the ultimate rivalry between two remarkable players, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry “the Legend” Bird. The battling rivalry amongst these individuals is comparable to the feud of Coca Cola and Pepsi, or, Star Wars and Star Trek. During the era of modern television, and the still and ever present racial bigotry, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird helped redefine the game of basketball and popularity of the NBA with their
When people involved with the NBA purposely, it can ruin how fans look at it.
