Within these estimates, certain groups tend to carry the burden of these disease, particularly the gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men (MSM) and among race/ethnic groups, Blacks/African American males remain disproportionately affected. According to Koumans et. al (2005), there have not been any studies conducted on STD education or services provided by higher education institutions here in the U.S. However, several studies demonstrate that misinformation and lack of educational resources contribute to risky sexual behavior which can lead to STDs (Wyatt & Oswalt, 2014).Therefore, it is imperative that universities and colleges find ways to increase awareness of sexual health services available for students on campus.

The public health system is based on ten essentials the first of those essentials is to Monitor health status in order to identify and solve community health problems. HOPE of East Tennessee, Inc., is a non-profit organization providing recovery residences and outpatient treatment for men and women with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. Intensive Outpatient Treatment is available for indigent Clients as well as those with TennCare coverage. They have both a resident and outpatient center. Payment is on a sliding fee scale based on income and other factors but also accept Medicaid, Medicare, and state financed health insurance plans.

I am writing to inform you of my intent to participate in the NIH Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program as a trainee. Having recently graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, I am eager to use my knowledge and passion to contribute to the health sciences. The prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases is no doubt imperative to the well-being of a society, even more so, on college campuses where the risk of communicability is greatest and can even affect loved ones and close friends. This hazard is further increased within Historically Black Colleges and Universities due to less consideration given to the risk associated with having intercourse. Young people in the US are the most vulnerable group and are continually at high risk of contracting HIV and AIDS. While others will require much effort, partnerships and be considered long term goals. As we look at each, we must first lay the ground work by showing the necessity and instill a since of urgency. Otherwise, these programs may be viewed as options as opposed to necessities and requirements. Due to this, one must outline an agenda which includes the projected outcomes coupled with scheduled due-dates. This will allow the projects to stay on track while being able to celebrate the small accomplishments, which helps to keep all parties involved.
