My Personal Leadership Philosophy Essay

Leadership can mean something different to everyone. To me leadership encompasses many things. Leadership is being able to motivate others to achieve. Leadership is listening to what others have to say and acting on it. Leadership is using interpersonal skills to communicate with others. Leadership is being a good example to others.

Being a leader is more than simply holding a leadership position or having the ability to lead. Everyone is capable of being a leader, but not everyone exercises his or her leadership abilities. Each person’s idea of leadership is different. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and being a member of the President’s Leadership Class has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership further than what it was two months ago. My personal philosophy of leadership is the ability to effect change through leading by example, taking initiative, and encouraging others.

What is leadership? Leadership by definition is the ability of an individual or organization to guide other individuals, teams, or organizations. Without leadership many would just follow one another's actions like blind sheep. Many of the powerful shifts in American history were started by men and women who made the decision to guide and instruct one another rather than being a follower.

Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.

The definition of leadership comes from within each person. Every person has his or her own interpretation of how a leadership should be defined. This definition most likely comes from past experiences under leadership or being the leader. My personal definition is very lengthy because I feel like leadership is very important.

Leadership can be hard to define and it means different things to different people. To me it means being able to create an inspiring vision of the future and help people achieve that vision. It also means being able to help people acquire that vision either directly or indirectly and help them grow.

My Leadership Philosophy consist of three major parts that can be sub-divided into many smaller parts. As a Non-Commissioned Officer I know that the mission and the welfare of my Soldiers are my main priority and I will instill that. It is my responsibility to ensure that my Soldiers are also guided to success. I believe that there are three major parts of Leadership, dedication and hard work, honesty and empathy, and confidence.

My leadership philosophy is founded on trust, integrity, open communication, proactivity, and purpose. This view will enable you to understand my values and expectations as your leader. Trust and integrity: Integrity is paramount in building trust between individuals and teams. I believe that for faith to thrive within the organization, culture of integrity, openness and honesty should be cultivated and maintained. As a leader, I intend to earn your respect and trust by being a person of good character, hardworking, honest, and decisive.

Nurses are exposed to the most dangerous diseases, harmful and hazardous drugs. This is why they tell nurses to read carefully through the basic guidelines. I came across the important qualities as a nurse. There are several things they need: critical-thinking skills, compassion, detail oriented, emotional, organizational skills, patience, and speaking skills.

My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, leadership is, “the office or position of a leader,” or, “the act or instance of leading.” To me, leadership is the ability to take control of a situation or group in order to move in a positive direction. For example, say your 4-H club is dwindling in numbers. You have an idea on how to keep the people who are in it interested and how to build the club up again, you should share your ideas and become proactive. Due to you taking control of what needs to happen, you’re already a leader; your club will look up to you. It also can be define as the activity of leading a group of people or an organization or the ability to do this. Leadership involves the establishing of a clear vision, sharing the vision with other so that they will follow willingly, providing the needed information, knowledge, and methods to realize the vision and coordinating and balancing the conflicts interests of all members and stakeholders.

There are many definitions of leadership. The Oxford dictionary defines leadership as “the action of leading a group of people or an organization.” Yet effective leadership is much more than that. A leader can be the CEO of an organization, or a high school student who leads his or her group to success behind the scenes. A leader might lead through official authority and power, yet just as often great leaders lead through inspiration, persuasion and personal connections.

Leadership is a term that has been researched heavily in today’s world. What defines leadership? Who is a good leader? Can we train leaders? In society, many businesses and companies are looking for good leaders. The thing is, nearly everyone is a leader with his or her own style. It’s mastering the style that makes someone a good leader. It’s balancing multiple styles that makes someone a better leader. Leadership is a highly dynamic position that requires the practicers to be equally as dynamic to get results from their individuals that they are in a relationship to mold.

Leadership is when a person motivates, inspires, encourages, and directs activates that will lead to reaching goals (Jones and George, 2013). Being a leader is an important role, one can be a leader at their job, and in their home life.
