When I first glanced at the prompts and saw the one that asked me to speak of a passion of mine, I knew that this was definitely the prompt I had to choose. My passion is my love for comedy. Comedy has always been a huge part of my life and continues to be to this day. It has encompassed my life for as long as I can remember. Whether I was looking to others to make me laugh, developing laughter from being around my family, or myself making others laugh the memories are embedded in my mind. With these memories I have come to the conclusion that I have always found a way to make others laugh. I really don’t know if I make people laugh to gain friends or some other reason; whatever it may be, it has sparked a realization that this is something I love to do. When I first think about why I have a passion for comedy, I think of it as being powerful and special. It is one of those things that can unite people. Laughter doesn’t discriminate, it doesn’t matter your ethnicity, religion, political opinion, etc., this is what I believe makes it so captivating. With humor you can as least for a little while forget about everything going on around you, regardless of the simplicity or complexity of the situation. It is a way for us to keep our sanity and gives us the opportunity to come together and put serious issues aside or be able to look at those issues in a less hostile manner. Laughter is one of those things everyone can appreciate, and should have a healthy amount of
Norman Cousins said, “Laughter is a powerful way to tap positive emotions" (Moss 1). Humor is studied by many researchers in sociology, psychology, art, literature, and medicine. When people wonder whether humor aids in areas other than health, a treasure trove of possible benefits to the learning or educational community is opened up. Humor can be used as a tool to promote learning.Research speaks to the many benefits of humor in healing, to its benefits in the classroom or boardroom, from reducing stress of students or employees, to boosting self-esteem and feelings of camaraderie. Additionally, studies show that those who use humor to convey a message are often more favorably perceived. Humor helps deliver the presenter's message to
Comedy is the most significant form of humorous expression. It is a type of communication used to talk about the social and cultural problems in society. They talk about subjects that would make society defensive but do it in a way that lightens a serious subject. Many people see comedy as humorous but there’s more to it then just laughs in America it talks about a lot of problems in society such as politics and racial profiling. Although comedians try to make jokes and entertain the audience, they make you notice the reality of today’s society and problems. Comedy is offensive and known for talking about stereotypes but put into funny stories therefore making the audience laugh and feeling comfortable. Comedy also has a way of discussing
Humor allows me the ability to connect with people, and break the introvert ice with people that aren’t open and willing to communicate.
Humor is kinda a break the workplace and in the brain there for the better working of the employees. They did experiments and the researchers used a clip of British sitcom mr. bean as their humorous material they said it was important to choose something you find funny because amusement was the main emotion that did the best each time in the experiments.
I possess the character strength of humor because I do not need a script for a joke and can light up the room with just a few actions. For example, humor can save a party or even spread happiness and comedy to others as I displayed one time when I was at my friend’s house and I broke out some dance moves which made his day. Humor does not only apply to those who are in a time of depression, humor also allows friends to tell stories and talk more freely. Comedy attracts crowds of people since they want to smile and live their life as happy as possible. Additionally, humor bodies much more than to make a friend or colleague laugh as I exhibited this a couple of weeks ago, as I told a very detailed story that made
Through experiences such as completing assignments from classes, and meeting new people, the most common adjective I have received is comedic. Throughout my whole life, I have been cracking jokes here and there because seeing people laugh is very important to me especially in a time where many people are depressed and can barely seem to crack a smile during the day. Walking through my school feels more like walking through a crowd of zombies rather than students and to me, that is heartbreaking. As cliche as it sounds, I feel as though life should be full of happiness and smiles so I take it at my duty to try and lighten the mood as much as I can.
1 OPENING Good Morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. The topic of today’s debate is That humor can help to restore conflict and give perspective. I have defined the key words as: Humor - The feeling and action of being amused, both comically and mentally. Restore – To replace something. Conflict - A large-scale disagreement, usually involving two or more groups of people. Perspective - A visual outlook or aid, which can apply both physically and mentally. 2 OUTLINE Now I’ll begin my case for the affirmative; which will demonstrate that… Humor can help to replace, conflict and improve a person’s attitude. I will argue two key points. Firstly, Laughter improves self-esteem during stressful times and creates a better individual image. Secondly,
In the book, Life’s Greatest Lessons: 20 Things That Matter by Hal Urban, the author describes how we as human beings must be able to look at the funny side of life. Urban tells the readers that one major key to life is to make your life funny. By making life funny, we relieve or forget about problems that are occurring in everyday life. From being a tension breaker, to having health benefits that include creating endorphins, laughter as the author put it is the “tonic of life” (p.24). Laughter puts our minds at ease and we use it to simplify our lives and create diversions from the added stress in our lives. It makes us forget about the bad and enjoy the good.
Laughter is a part of the envious human experience we as beings have. It is undoubtedly one of the things that make living worthwhile. In fact, according to Matthew Hurley and his fellow associates, “a large portion, in any case, of people’s time is spent attempting to get each other to laugh” (Hurley, Dennett, and Adams Jr.). Laughing has a way of offering relaxation like nothing else does. It has the power to unconsciously change any situation into a good one just as soon as it starts. It definitely has the potential to take over you and there are millions of reasons to laugh. Every laugh is as unique as the individual displaying it, yet the possible benefits remain the same. The effects of laughter has been studied time and time again
Laughter is part of everyday life for every human. Although we do it daily, most people do not know how it works, nor how it helps us with our health. Something that we do all the time is something that we do not even think about. We, as humans, take laughter for granted. It might come easy to us, but laughing is actually very complex. It also helps us physically, mentally, and socially. Although, many people do not agree on humor, we can all agree on one thing: laughter is important.
At times we overlook humor as an important element in teaching and using it as a tool to contribute to a positive environment for learning, humor for some is considered to be synonyms of disorder and chaos. ”I’m not going to start telling jokes, it will lead to a complete loss of control” said my friend’s teacher in Lycée school. For others, lack of knowledge as to how one may use humor in his speech effectively might prevent him from using his sense of humor. “I enjoy humor, but I don’t know how to go about using it, so I don’t, I don’t want
Finding your passions in life can open up a whole new door of possibilities. It can show you more about who you really are. I was always the sporty type. I played just about every sport under the sun. Until one day I discovered a new part of me waiting to emerge from the shadows and changed my entire world for the better. One day I went to watch young adults act in a musical and as I watchfully gazed at them and noticed how happy they were to be up on stage I realized that performing had the potential to add gusto to my life and fill me with joy.
I believe there was a time where everyone loved to read, but over time the passion died down. Growing up I loved to read, I can still recall my first book “the Big Red Barn”. The overwhelming joy from reading about cute animals, and the rhyming got me so excited to read. Once I began to understand what I was actually reading, I just could not stop reading. Books to me was like watching a TV show that incorporates your ideals and your imagination. You can start or pause whenever you deem necessary and the best part yet, it that you can actually understand what the character is actually feeling. Then I finally went to school, and things were a little bit different.
Humor is considered as an art of words, which shows human’s wisdom in digging out the hilariousness in daily life and generous sharing with others. Humor can help people reduce stress and improve the overall emotional health.
Humor plays an important part in everyday life. Everyone laughs at a joke, but few people stop to think about what makes something funny. We can apply many of the ideas developed in
