Low-paying job is where one do not need any special certification or license to work. Also, low-paying jobs are usually the ones that people do in the beginning of their careers; in the same way, I also had a low-paying job. I worked at a food place, Waba Grill, as my first job. Moreover, I used to perform several activities including cleaning the restaurant, washing the dishes, taking the orders, serving the customers, cutting the meat, preparing the orders etc., even though, my job title was a cashier. At first, when I was hired, I was required to have various transferable skills. First of all, I was required to have some kind of experience in customer service, in other words, I needed to be able to greet people with a smile whenever they walk in and be able to take their orders politely. In addition, I was expected to know everything on the menu from the main to the sides, so that, I would not prepare wrong orders, also, I was required to have knowledge to run a computer based cash register, as it was used to take customer orders. However, working at my family store, I did had some experience with the cash register, but, I did not had any experience with the computerized cash register. Eventually, I …show more content…
In fact, being hired as a cashier, I was performing all the other activities including cooking and washing dishes. Even though, that food place was really busy, only two people were assigned to work per shift. Imagine, one person grilling the meats only because he consider himself as a cook and the other one who is a cashier doing everything else including cleaning the dirty tables, filling up the straws for fountain drinks, taking orders, serving customers, cutting the salads and vegetables, also helping the cook to grill the meat. This experience is
The job of a cashier involves operating the cash register, coordinating item returns, and answering telephone calls. Handling the cash register requires awareness of current discounts, since the prices and discounts of all items at Hobby Lobby are entered manually. Customer service makes up a large component of this occupation when helping customers locate desired merchandise or staff personnel and ensuring that the customers receive a friendly and efficient checkout. Other tasks included in this job such as organizing and restocking store shelves, returning merchandise to the appropriate location, and pricing items requires great attention to detail and a good memory.
I chose to write about my experiences as a cashier working in customer service because it expresses Joan Didion’s theme of accepting things you cannot change which is, in this case, the customer. Although the tone throughout the piece implies that I am annoyed by the trivialities of my job, I would like to explain that I do not hate being a cashier, in fact I love it and I could not be happier with my job. However, this does not mean it is without its “special” moments that I have experienced with certain customers, and that’s what this essay is about. My intended audience of this piece are people who intend to get customer service jobs to warn them of what they may experience. I also wanted to aim this at people who think that they always need to get their way because accepting a situation is better than trying to change it
Tasks and responsibilities: Manage associates, make sure customers are taken care of, manage sales and inventory, and make sure to keep a clean food safety department.
The job itself isn’t bad, depending on the shift and the day anyways. Our duty is to cook food in a fryer, oven, rotisserie, slice meat and cheese on a slicer, serve customers, wash dishes, and the list could go on. For example, if there is a night shift there 's a long list of things we have to clean. If the staff work together, we’ll be able to leave work early. For instance last night we were able to get the job done. Megan and I were the only ones there to close the store last night. We are normally supposed to have three people closing and Megan was sick so I had to do a lot of cleaning. She hated the fact that she kept asking me to do things, but I really wasn 't doing anything. Like the phrase same stuff, different day. That 's not how it 's said, but you get the idea.
I was the first female clerk that worked full-time. It wasn't very good there. Men mistreated me. They spit on me!
A min wage job isn’t easy. The money will not be enough to pay bills and live off of. Min wage is very hard to live off of because the things I can afford with a career I won’t be able to on min wage. With min wage I won’t be able to pay all my bills for the month. I don’t want to have to live off of min wage because it is a very hard thing.
It was only a seasonal job, so they weren't too picky with their hiring and within a month I was hired and put to training. Training was fun, it was I working like everybody but somewhat supervised. After the training I'll be honest, I hated working there. I couldn't stand having to put clothes away for four hours and barely being able to talk to anybody besides a passerby customer who would politely brush me off every time I asked the required, "Do you need any help with anything? No? Okay, let me know!" It got old real quick. I missed the constant interaction I got with the kids I used to
My job was in the kitchen, there were also other members of Key Club doing other activities such as giving backpacks filled with clothing for the harsh winter approaching. My job was to put hot dogs in a bun and then pass it down to the next person in the assembly line. It may have sounded simple; however, it was complex, some people had different dietary needs due to religious backgrounds. Some people who received the food were grateful, while others were impatient, the room was filled with diversity and people of all ages and from all
As mentioned in the introduction, minimum wage is the lowest wage rate an employer can pay an employee. Most employees
Minimum wage is the lowest payment permitted by law or special agreement (labor union). Minimum wage jobs are normally designated for young adults or teens. It does not really permit a suitable living wage for a person with a family. The jobs with minimum wage are learning positions. They enable the worker to gain skills for higher paying jobs. Raising the minimum wage presents a series of advantages and disadvantages to the worker and the economy.
The first point that Etzioni brings up is that minimum wage jobs do not provide many opportunities in the workplace. According to him, working in retail or at a fast food restaurant does not provide the chance for entrepreneurship, self-discipline, self-supervision, and self-scheduling (286). Based on my experience, it is not that there are no opportunities, just very few. Part-time employees
At the time, my school Grand Canyon University opened the first burger joint, Habit Burger. Again, it was a new restaurant, but this time the management was from the school. When I was there I did cash handling and operation of the cash register, served food to customers, stocked all items and took inventory, helped prepare food, and bussing and cleaned all tables. But it was not like that at first. You would think that it would be running smoothly, but wrong. Grand Canyon University was hiring new managers and students who did not know how to work cash registers or let alone machines. We all trained ourselves to work the machines and everything. I was one of the few who could learn quickly and tried to teach the other students. After a couple of months of disorganized chaos, I talked with my boss to see if there was anything to help, but he said I could not do anything. I started to tell the other students what needed to be done. We all would clock in and I would tell someone to do dining, two to count in and do cash register, one person does to shakes, two to do prep work, and two to serving. After that, we all caught on what needed to be done. I also suggested having shift leaders during each shift to help order what needs to get done. They liked that idea and started hiring and recruiting those to be shift leaders. I was not one and did not want to be one because it became stressful overtime. I only did so if the shift leader was gone. After all that, Habit was finally running smoothly and became the popular place to hang out in my
Because of minimum wage and the outcomes of what it 's like to live off of minimum wage, small businesses are sometimes unable to keep employees because of the lack of pay. Some employees have a lot more bills and their own living costs that they are responsible for so when the minimal wage is so low, those employees eventually cannot work there anymore because they are needing more money than just what minimal wage is at. Another downfall to small businesses and just having minimum wage is that a lot of the businesses do
Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as counting money, separating charge slips, coupons, and vouchers, balancing
When I worked at Popeyes, my position was a crew member. The atmosphere varied everyday but the one thing that remained the same was the goal of making the customer happy and satisfied. When I arrived, I had to log in and look on the board to see where I would be working. Most of the time I worked drive thru. Before taking my first order, I had to count my drawer and make sure that it contained the same amount listed on the drawer sheet. After that, I could start my day. When taking orders, I had to remember to
