English was and has been my weakest subject ever since I was introduced to it in Kindergarten, and until this day. I often understand concepts related to math and science, however, vocabulary, spelling, critical analysis, speaking, and reading are skills I find hard to master. In fact, some ideas seem to go through one ear, and out the other. I never understood English’s importance when I was a kid. I thought that grammar, vocabulary, spelling, etc. were not as important as math or science. I was unaware of how important English was when I was younger, causing me to not care much about reading, writing, or speaking. Now that I have a bit more experience in the real world, I understand that English is essential to lead on a successful life. This is due to the fact that English can help someone mentally, physically, and overtime, financially. Due to my late notice, I fell behind in English, which shows through my reading level, writing, and vocabulary. Despite the tough times and headaches that were forced upon me as an English student, I still remain diligent and put in massive amounts of effort into each assignment. The concept, related to English, that I am most skillful at would have to be writing, therefore writing would be strength. My confidence in writing was first achieved in third grade when I won the “author of the month” for writing a persuasive essay. Obtaining confidence helped me learn to enjoy writing. Although confidence is great to have, the main reason
I walk over to the nine-year-old boy sitting across the room as I reach for my pen and sheet of paper. As I approached him, I halted. Quietly, I asked him what he needed help with. Looking confused, he asked me what the word bough meant. I froze. I didn’t know what the word meant. Embarrassed of not knowing a fifth grade word, I asked the teacher for some assistance and after she told me what the word meant I understood and was then able to explain to him that a bough is just a synonym for a branch. Noticing that David was still confused as to what he was reading, I sat beside him and allowed him to read the passage out loud to me. While I defined the words that he didn’t know and listened to him read the passage, I was able to classify him as an English learner who just wanted to be just as good as the other kids.
A primary strength in my writing is my ability to present a strong argument with clarity and support. Another strength I have in writing is a considerable knowledge of appealing to audiences and I take full advantage of my persuasive nature to create solid arguments. Additionally, I find that my writing is enhanced with an extensive vocabulary and a firm grasp on the English langue. I believe these things, the ability to make a sound argument, a strong capacity to appeal to an audience and firm control of vocabulary and language conventions make me a good
Predominately I enjoy writing the most, I am fond of finding the right words and arranging them in a way that expresses my point or tells a story. Chiefly I dislike the technicalities of English, mainly the stipulations of grammar. Therefore, I hope to improve upon this skill.
communication skills, as a good writer and listener I believe these skills are mostly seen in my assignments and report writing and having oral presentation in class.
English has never been an easy subject for me. It is something that I've needed to work at constantly in order to achieve a grade that I am satisfied by or more likely, my parents are satisfied by. Throughout high school I have been a person who is naturally gifted in mathematics, physics and chemistry. These subjects are straightforward to me because I knew if I worked harder I would obtain a higher grade, but with English it always seemed that even if I put in more effort it wasn't a given that I’d see better results.
Throughout my childhood, the idea of having a college education was greatly stressed. As a result, it was my duty as the next generational child, to excel in my studies and achieve a life of prosperity and success. Learning became the basic foundation of my growth. Therefore, my youth was overtaken by many hours spent reading and writing what was known to be correct "Standard" English. I first found this to be a great shortcoming, but as I grew older, I began to realize the many rewards acquired by having the ability to be literate.

One strength that I find as a writer is being able to back up my side of an argumentative or persuasive essay. I am confident in my ability to make my readers believe in my views of an issue and make these views their own; if not, I am able to sway the
I believe that one of my greatest strengths when I write is how well I can clearly comprehend a prompt, and answer it correctly and thoroughly. I take time to think about what I am going to write, and structure it well. Along with structuring my writing, my use of vocabulary
writing skills, but I was not taught very much about rhetoric, and as soon as I encountered new rhetorical situations in different classes, I would feel panic and have a hard time adapting my writing. Once I learned about rhetoric, I could write at least fairly well within any rhetorical situation. I actually spent years working as a reference book author, writing books on subjects completely unrelated to my field of study, and I could do this successfully because I knew how to analyze my rhetorical situation and adapt my writing to that rhetorical situation. Learning- Learning is another strength of mine. I have always been taught to ask questions as a little boy and as a result this inquisitiveness has formed part of my nature. Some of my hobbies I have learnt about are electronics, tennis skills and the Chinese language.
Taking an English class during college is important for a fundamental education, because regardless of the major I chose, I must able to communicate well in written and spoken words. After all, in the future, when I try to obtain a job, the corporations will most likely base their decision on my ability to express ideas and opinions in a sophisticated and correct manner. Therefore, increasing my knowledge and skills in English will increase my opportunities to success. Yet, currently, many students try to avoid taking English class due to the great amount of practice and dedication that requires. This, in the long run, decreases their abilities to analyze, express and critique ideas.
One of my weaknesses that I was quick to discover was that my use of grammar and punctuation was not as good as I thought it was. In high school, I had never faced any problem in those fields, but after a single assignment on capitalization in college, my confidence was shaken when I got a “C” grade on it. It was hard for
English is a subject I have always felt strong with as a student, this area of strength has not only benefitted me in my this course but has helped me to succeed in every class I have taken. American literature so far has gave me a new and refined understanding, from read and writing to communicating my ideas in group discussions. Never before have I been able to have such a confident understanding of was I was reading and writing. I have gained a new and refined belief of what it means to annotate a text and why it is important, though I will always have reserved feelings about them. In discussion groups by referring to my annotations I am able to express my ideas and observations about the text. I have never before been so challenged with a piece of writing, throughout my career as a student prompts had always been specific and specifications were always strict. Writing literary analysis was not only a new type of essay writing for me but it required me to refer back to my annotations and think deeper about why I was having certain thoughts and opinions on a text to develop an argument. Whether it is reading, writing, or speaking the significance of everything I have mastered, and will continue to learn in english class will allow me to have fate in they way I express myself in the future.
My journey of learning English when I was a little girl. I heard another language other than mine spoken on the TV; then is when my fascination with languages began, especially English. It was the language spoken of some of my favorite cartoons that I watched at that time, so I began to listen to it carefully so I could understand what was said in them. When my older brother went to seventh grade, he started taking English classes in his school; it was the grade that students started learning English at that time. I got my hands on his English language Learning textbook and for the first time I could learn some English words from it and I would ask my brother sometimes about what he took in his classes. When it was my turn to go to seventh grade, I was very excited and I could not hide it. The English teacher had already known about my love for the language from my mother who works at the same school. She saw how much I was interested in English so she supported me with everything she could do for me to learn more.
