“Military Bearing” and how it affects the Army as a whole Bearing, put simply, is the appearance and demeanor of a person throughout the activities and circumstances that an individual is seen or observed. An individual is largely judged by others through the bearing that the individual exudes as he goes about his daily affairs, and thus it is very important that the person shows a bearing of competence and professionalism at all times. Militaries since the beginning of recorded history have set individual bearing at the core of the doctrine and values that all persons comprising the force were instilled with from the start of the individual’s service through to the end of his term. Bearing of the individual soldier has always been a …show more content…
Soldiers constantly look to their leaders for guidance when developing bearing themselves, since “Military Bearing” is instilled over the course of time, and doesn’t just come “Factory Installed” out of Initial Entry Training. Also, if the leader is unable or unwilling to uphold the standard that he expects of his subordinates, not only will the soldiers look on the leader as being hypocritical or having a “Double Standard”, and his soldiers will be less likely to carry out any orders from the superior, or at least won’t put any appreciable amount of effort into carrying out those orders. Respect comes from bearing. If a leader does not set the example of “Military Bearing”, the only respect that the leader will receive will be out empty reverence of the rank the individual may hold, and not out of true respect or loyalty to the leader himself. “Military Bearing”, the big picture As stated in the previous sections, “Military Bearing” is at the core of every military structure. Without bearing, structure is impossible. A soldier must possess a “Military Bearing” in all his daily affairs; this sets him apart from the everyday person. The soldier must possess a “Military Bearing” in his duties; this allows him to accomplish them in a timely fashion and do the job properly as opposed to “Half Ass”. A soldier must Possess “Military Bearing” in his interactions with his superiors as well. Without this, the leader will not be able to

Army leaders must balance the link between the Army’s culture and it’s climate and institutional practices. When there is a proper balance it has a huge impact on the mindset of the Army’s Soldiers. Their actions or inactions impacts the five key attributes of the profession, and the four fields of expertise, and have long term effects on the Army’s culture and climate. These actions influence Soldiers’ perceptions that they are serving professional who have answered the call of service to the republic, it is important that Soldiers understand that their role is a calling and not just a job.
Maintaining your military bearing is the similar as being professional, But also has another definition to it, it means you are a soldier and should act like one at all times (being professional). Also it states that if you act unprofessional you are displaying to the world that the military is unprofessional. This is why you must maintain professional at all times cause you are the face of the military. Perception is reality in a lot of peoples eyes, that is a big deal in the military. In search of being professional you must, and I quote "cross all your T's and dot all your I's".
Military bearing is something that applies to all branches of the United States Navy but it manifests itself a little differently depending on the branch in question. This report will focus on the United States Navy and military bearing and the core competencies and codes that define said military bearing in a Navy context. A lot of what will be said below can be applied, in whole or in part, to other branches of the United States Armed Forces.
Not only do soldiers carry the emotional burdens of themselves, but they often carry the emotional burdens for others. Soldiers who work together end up becoming brothers. One mistake during war and their brothers are dead. This is a heavy weight for a soldier to carry. “He carried a strobe light and the responsibility for the lives of his men” (12). Soldiers often have to make difficult decisions on what
There are very few things in the modern military of today or any military that has ever existed before our current military for that matter, that are more important than the rank structure and the the respect that is demanded of you by that rank structure. Those are two very important characteristics of every successful military unit. With added details here and there, in this essay I will mainly be discussing what respect actually is, how being respected is normally earned and in the military how it is demanded of you as a sub-ordinate to any ranks higher than you or in some cases any fellow military personnel who is more senior to you and why. On top of that I will be covering
I was directed to write an essay on the importance of military bearing. Ironically, this tasking was due to a lapse in my personal ability to maintain and display my own military bearing. It is my intention that through my writing I will be able to not only express the significance of said bearing, but also to provide an insight to my own opinions and values pertaining to it, both professionally and personally.
The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of an Army white paper, the “Profession of Arms.” The U.S. Army should be “The Profession of Arms” and each soldier should be “The Professional Soldier.” (U.S. Army, 2010). It is important for “The Profession of Arms” to develop expertise, trust, development values, and service at the organizational level (U.S. Army, 2010) l. Also, it is crucial for “The Professional Soldier” to develop skill, trust, leadership, character, and duty at the individual level (U.S. Army, 2010). So, the “Profession of Arms” is comprised of experts and experienced soldiers who dedicate their lives to defend the U.S. Constitution and the American way of life (U.S. Army, 2010).
Lastly, the third phrase that has great influence in my leadership style is, “I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my Soldiers.” (NCO Creed) I believe earning respect starts from respecting others first. One of the respect techniques I live by is to treat others how you want to be treated. Respecting others will increase the quality of morale and positive environment.
Ordinary Soldiers have been the most significant part of an armies’ structure throughout military history. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in combat throughout military history, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to his country, his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons transformed throughout the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and societal.
I really do agree with you, Tyler. One of the biggest issues I had be in the Army is when a leader would tell you that there is this one stander, but they themselves do not do this one stander. Often when a soldier is get in trouble one of the leaders would punishes the group of the solider that was with the individual, and not the leader that trained them. If someone is going to lead me in to a situation, I need to have confidents in their ability to lead. I need to feel comfortable that I can trust them otherwise they become a distraction. Too many time in the Army I got in trouble for me being to blunt when a leader was acting unethical. I but in order to be viewed as a professional you have to act like it all the
Military bearing is to conduct yourself with dignity and in such a manner to reflect credit upon the armed services. Military bearing exists when this individual is proud of their military service. When you exhibit military bearing you are showing lower enlisted soldiers how to act and giving them an example to follow.
The leaders have to prepare themselves to handle various issues, such as financial problems, family, parenting issues and educational issues as well. These complications are rare in wartime, but it has other ones. In combat, these problems need more sensitivity form the leader, because the soldier is far away from home, it causes frustration if nobody wants to help to solve the problem. As shown above the problems need attention, this prevents the ethical
