The transition from middle school to high school can be very large. Not only are you in an entirely new situation from a social perspective, you are also in an entirely new academic situation. As a freshman at a Catholic high school, your teachers are going to expect that you produce your best work at all times. You will be held to very high academic standards, and more work is going to be expected of you than it was in middle school. Here are a few study tips to help you make it through your first few months of high school.

Start By Getting Organized

Raise your hand and ask questions when their is a concept that you just don't quite understand; changes are if you have a question, someone else in the room probably has the same one.

During any lecture classes, take notes. You don't have to write down everything that your teacher says. Try to synthesis the information and write down the big idea as well as important vocabulary words. You should be able to look back at your notes and fill in the details on your own. Learning how to take effective notes takes practice; don't get down on yourself if your first few attempts are not that helpful, just keep practicing.

Finally, take advantage of the time that you are given to get work done in class. Although it can be tempting to talk with your friends about unrelated topics, try to save that type of conversation for your passing and lunch periods. The more work you get done in class, the less work you will have to bring home with you later. Plus, when you do your work in class, your teacher is readily available to answer any questions that you may have.
