“According to the U.S Department of education, if you graduated in the bottom 40% of your high school class and went to college, 76 of 100 won’t earn a diploma, even if given 8 ½ years.” Marty Nemko believes that going to college isn’t for everyone and that it’s turned into a business depending on which university you attend. Nemko also gives some good examples, such as Morris, who completed his bachelor's degree from University of California, Berkeley and works as a truck driver to support his family. Nemko mentions that “ colleges are businesses, and students are a cost item while research is a profit center. (33) This appeal is logos appeal because the author uses logic to make his statement. It is a fact that many colleges today charge a large amount of tuition and only some majors will benefit from college. Nemko also says “colleges are quick to argue that college education is more about enlightenment than employment”(33)Majority of students who go to college want the employment more than the …show more content…

He also has some reputable sources that he uses in the essay. “ Your first college year nationwide survey conducted by UCLA researchers (data collected in 2005, reported in 2007), only 16.4% percent of students were very satisfied with the overall quality of instruction they received and 28.2% were neutral, dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied” (33). Nemko selects a good statistical evidence which is conducted by UCLA. known to be one of the best colleges in Los Angeles.
This was one source I thought was trustable as a reader, and it made a good transition from paragraphs as well. Nemko gains my trust from the beginning because he’s been in that situation and is informing from personal experience. That’s not seen as much in writers today.
