Mandatory OAT

College students mostly get nervous about all the sudden work load that they face and may fail in many steps throughout their college life. They might end up needing help and professional advice on how to get good grades and survive their college. John Langan in “Three Keys to Doing Well in School” says (that) the three most important factors to a student’s success in college are attitude toward learning, good study skills and involvement with reading. Langan emphasizes on these three main points, sharing his opinion on how these keys are important and says that one should have much self-respect and determination to earn the reward by hard work rather than relying on luck. Furthermore, Writing and taking notes is another major key when it comes to enhancing study skills. Also, being organized and having a schedule setup for almost everything helps an individual to work on time and complete the assigned work ahead of time too. Reading is also an important step to better performance in school or college as it helps you think well, increases your vocabulary and helps you become a more successful person. These factors are some of the most important characteristics that a student should develop throughout his life to succeed in life as it helps build and strengthen the future of the student.

3.Working efficiently- Give yourself time to work, if you don't you will not be able to maintain your performance.

Something that I already do well now and will carry into freshman year is my note-taking skills. My preferred note taking style is the Outlining method, because it is easier to understand and find the information that I need to study or whatever the reason. When my notes are organized, if I am writing an essay it will be easier and less time consuming to write. This will maximize my productivity on the assignment so I can get more done

5. Studying material or notes is most important when preparing for a test. First I find a quiet place

You might ask what OAT is, and I’m just about to tell you. OAT stands for Open Academic Time which is 45 minutes after school where you can make up work, talk to teachers about being absent, and get help with things you are struggling with in class. This happens every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Another benefit from attending OAT is earning extra credit. Getting the OAT check-in form signed by a teacher adds up extra credit as well as getting you caught up (if needed). The teachers encourage you to come to this for your educational benefit. Really, OAT is here for your benefit and as much as you can, i would suggest attending.

College students must also focus on properly preparing for exams. Successful students develop preparation and review strategies to prime for exams. Preparation strategies facilitate gathering class material and presenting it in a format that is easy to understand. This may include taking concise notes, writing out predicted text questions and creating self-tests (Blerkom, 2012). Review strategies are focused on recitation and retaining the course material. This may include reciting key points, reciting answers to the predicted questions and taking

By listening to the teacher and understanding what is teacher asking me to do, helped me to become a better learner. This is the way I used to get better on collecting notes.

In today’s society, many people are considering college to either advance their career, make a switch in jobs or start on a path to a more prosperous life. With that set in mind, questions comes to mind “how will I be successful in college? How can I pass all my classes with the best possible grade?” I, myself have had these exact thoughts, and through trial and error have learned some beneficial skills along the way. Three steps that have helped me get good grades and maintain them are attending classes, effective note taking, and time management.

Another skill that you can use that would help you get an outstanding test score. Is knowing how to study . Studying is a great way to review your notes so that you you have a better understanding . There are many strategies that you can use while you study. “Having a set place and time to study can make all the differences. Students who don't practice this technique tend to be more stressed about homework and studying.” stated by Holly Dalby . So having a good place to study makes a great differences . So that you don't have different distances. One great way that you can do is joining a study group .So that you have people that you can ask help for if you're having a difficult time trying to understand a topic. “ No matter how much you wish differently , there are so many hours in a day you can devote to studying .So it's important that you prioritize your time before you start studying each and every study session “ stated by Holly Dalby .This a a successful habit that i do use to help me do better in school .

Furthermore, effective notetaking is a skill needed to achieve success in college. Presume, you are told to read chapters one and five for the next class. At this time effective note taking comes into play. Firstly, read the chapters before class so you have an understanding about what is going to be discussed. While reading the chapter write down definitions, dates, facts and explanations that expand on the main topic. I do this for my classes, and a chapter of forty to sixty pages becomes three to four pages of notes that has only the necessary information needed. While taking notes during lectures use abbreviations or symbols that make sense to you. This will save you time and you will be able to listen to professor instead of just staring

Arriving to work early or leaving work late, gives you the chance to catch up on tasks that you haven't gotten done. If possible, get work done when others aren’t around. Try to avoid multitasking, it seems as if you’re getting more done if you do two or three things at once, but you will be focusing on more than needed. If you focus on once job at a time, you will be more productive. Do your part to keep meetings productive, Be on time. Come to the meeting prepared for the topics at hand. Confirm appointments the day before. This will head off problems caused by miscommunications or scheduling conflicts. Give yourself extra time traveling to and from work so that you don’t feel rushed. Try to find a few extra minutes in your schedule each day to organize your thoughts and your things.

Studying skills will help you be more successful as well, there is also to much studying. To much studying can cause stress, and dense learning habits, also pushing your self to hard may ruin learning skills and cause your self to feel bad, or not as intelligent. Study skills for tests, quizzes, and exams is very important. Evenly spreading out study time will increase memory of the subjects you learn. Taking frequent breaks will make studying less stressful. Using flash cards, web sites, computers, or just a pencil and paper are all great ways to study. Having an answer sheet to refer to, and look over when your done will also help study and learning skills because it can help you see what you did wrong and need to fix. Having a study group or club before big tests, like exams or diplomas, will help you have more fun with your friends when studying.
