My college experience so far has been hectic, to say the least. I originally came to college 10 years ago; however, I was very immature and did not understand the importance in my school work or attending classes. After my 10 year break, I decided to return so that I can better my little family’s future. Now, I am a full time single mother to a sweet, smart and gorgeous 5-year-old daughter. I work full time, as a paralegal, in East Memphis, which is a 3 hour round trip daily, from my residence. To become an accomplished athlete do you really need to practice for 10,000 hours? In Gladwell’s Outlier’s book, he describes the need of people that become experts in their chosen areas to devote 10,000 hours of practice time to achieve that goal. As a high school golfer, I devote several hours a day during the school year to practicing golf. In the summer, I put in more hours. To practice it 10,000 times is life changing.” The article goes on to say, to become a professional golfer you must practice a minimum of 6 hours per day.

This article focuses on the arguments for and against the idea of cloning or bringing back the extinct species of Woolly mammoths. The term scientists and researchers use for bringing an extinct species back to life is called de-extinction. George Church concludes that introducing these extinct mammoths into its native regions like the tundra, could possibly reduce the amount of heat released from the ancient grasses that previously grew in the Artic ecosystems. Church's ideas are directly from the followers who believe that cloning these animals and reintroducing them into the ecosystem will not only benefit humans, but also allow geneticists to protect part of the elephant family. Some opponents argue that de-extinction ethically isn't right.

First where would they put the animals? They talk about bringing back the Wooly Mammoth. Due to the size of it, they would have to make or set off a large enough piece of land for it. Of course they could not just make one animal. They would have to make several of the same species if they wanted to keep the species alive and to grow their numbers. Then there is the subject of the ecosystem. How would the species be introduced into it and what effects would the new animals have on the pre-existing inhabitants. Scientist can recover DNA from specimens and fossils from up to 200,000 years ago. If they brought back an animal from 200,000 years ago then there would be a chance that the environment would not be the same. The plant life might be different. The animals that the extinct species might have lived with could of died or migrated to another location, thus when they are reintroduced into their old habitats the new occupants as well as the ecosystem could be thrown off balance. Ecosystems are one of the most fragile things in the world. They can easily be upset if anything is put in or taken out of the system. Introducing the new species is a risk. It could either be what is best for the ecosystem or it could possibly even destroy it in a short time period. Research suggest that mammoths were a social creature and In Addition to this, re-creating a mammoth would introduce with a complicated set of legalities that relate to the Endangered species act and patent laws. In summary, I believe that the implications of re-introducing mammoths or mammoth-like creatures will have overwhelmingly negative implications both to humans and to the existing ecosystem that is in the Siberian

After listening to the past couple of lectures I would say that I am sleep deprived at this very moment. However I slept 6.5 hours last night, woke up at 4:15 AM for work, and then got off at 10:30. I wonder if I am truly sleep deprived or if I have already put in my 8 plus hours and my body is ready to shut down for the night. I know that I do not have a good sleep pattern at the moment as I leave my phone next to me at all hours of night, not only is it my alarm clock, but I use to contact my husband who is currently over seas and 8 hours ahead of me. After listening to the lectures and reading the other entries I know I could use a better sleep routine, however there are some things I cannot simply remove now case and point my cellphone.

Most of the knowledge that we know about evolution is based on theories if we are able to bring back the extinct animals we can prove if our theories of evolution are correct.when we bring back animals it could provide us insight to the theories of evolution we can see if natural selection is right and if the theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics is right.
