LOFT Personality Analysis Essay All our personalities compare to a character from Lord of the Flies, and I found myself to be an ENFP or an idealist; someone most comparable to Simon. An ENFP or an idealist personality displays characteristics of being extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving which. Furthermore, passionately concerned with positive improvement, being kind, warm, sympathetic, distracted and motivated were all trait described in the personality test for the ENFP. Due to our selflessness, how introverted and extroverted we are, and how we can think both logically and emotionally, makes Simon and I most similar.
The idealist is often trying to help others, as well as the world, enhancing it in any way they can, as stated by the personality test. Simon displays this need to help others through many of his actions within the book, “as Simon thought this…the beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible. He started down the mountain and his legs give beneath him (Lowry 147).” In this passage, Simon is hurt yet he wants to help resume order amongst the boys, by eliminating the fear that controls them, which show he has a vision for a better world. "Then, amid the roar of bees in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Lowry 56).” Similarly, Simon also is the only one that
Piggy, Ralph, Jack, and Roger were all crucial characters throughout the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding. All these characters made questionable decisions that when combined, contributed to Piggy’s necessary demise. Although some character’s decisions had a greater impact than others, they were all responsible in some way. Piggy’s stubborn behavior, Ralph’s lack of leadership, Jack’s power hungry and irresponsible behavior, and Roger’s unstable mental state all contributed towards Piggy’s passing. All this contributed to Piggy’s death and were necessary to the survival of everyone on the island.
No human, or animal, or other living being in this world is perfect. Flaws are existent. However, the severity of the flaws can differ, from mild to rather dangerous. Most importantly, flaws develop in a human being due to specific reasons. In Lord of The Flies, the author William Golding’s portrayal of selfishness and pride are significant because they are emotions that prevail when a civilization is absent, showing that humans have a tendency to go towards savagery that is contained by the presence of a civilization.
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a story about a troop of boys who are on a plane out of war-torn England. However, their plane crashes and strands them on an island without any adults. The boys, who are anywhere from age six to age twelve, must learn to survive not only the elements, but each other as well. By the end of the story, at least three of the boys have died, two of which were killed knowingly by other boys on the island.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, is a novel that explores the impact of setting on human nature through the perspectives of young British boys who are trapped on an island. Simon, one of the boys, is a shy, yet responsible friend of Ralph, the group’s leader. After arriving on the island, Simon is one of a few boys who are willing to help Ralph make the island safe, unlike the other boys who are only concerned about playing and having fun. Simon adapts to the new environment by finding comfort in his surroundings, taking on more responsibility and observing the other boys actions.. Simon seems to be the only boy who notices the beauty of the island.
A lot of the characters are portrayed as basically good, for the most part. Like Ralph, Simon, Piggy, and Samneric. They were good most if not all of the time. However some characters were written as basically evil, according to Golding’s idea of evil. Those characters being Jack and Roger. Even though a good portion of the characters represented good Golding still thought that men were naturally evil. While most of the characters are good most of the time there is still a point when they are all evil.
I believe Ralph is the protagonist in Lord of The Flies. “Shut up,” said Ralph absently. He lifted the conch. “Seems to me we ought to have a chief decide things.” (Golding 22) Ralph in Lord of the Flies took leadership becoming chief immediately on the abandoned island. He is not a very strict chief there are only a few rules the boys have to follow.
The first character that readers are introduced to in William Golding's Lord of the Flies is Ralph, a young British boy with fair skin and an athletic build. Ralph is shown to have a child like personality at first; the first thing he does is strip and run into the ocean to swim, and as he looks around he is excited by the prospect of his very own undiscovered island without adults around. However, despite the childish and innocent side of his personality, Ralph is a natural leader and is quickly elected as such by the boys on the island after he calls a meeting by blowing on a conch shell. As the chief of the island, Ralph suggests that the boys build a signal fire at the top of the mountain on the island in case a passing boat or plane might see it and save them. Ralph and three other other boys, Jack, Simon, and Piggy, all hike to the top of the mountain, but when they are about to make their signal fire, none of them know how to start it without having any matches- until Jack points to Piggy. Piggy is a fat boy with asthma and glasses with frames that “had made a deep, pink V on the bridge [of his nose]”, he is the most educated of the boys, but is often ignored or made fun of; his glasses are an essential part of him and his identity. Piggy's glasses are also important to the boys in the book because they are used to start the signal fire, signally the start of civilization on their island; Piggy's glasses become a symbol of advancement, innovation, and civilization.
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” FDR said these words to a depressed(morally and economically) nation in 1933. 21 years before Lord of the Flies was published in 1954. Despite that, this quote applies perfectly to William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. Within the novel a group of boys get stranded on an island after their plane gets shot down during an unnamed war. With no adults or authority on the island it’s up to the children to survive and they even say themselves they want to “have fun and get rescued”, unfortunately all is not as it seems on the island and fear takes root in the children, it’s here in this context that William Golding uses the character Simon to demonstrate that the inability to recognize oneself and our own flaws will corrupt us and the society we’re apart of.
There are distinctive personalities within each character from Lord of the Flies that compare to each person individually, and I found myself to be an ENFP, an idealist and arguably most comparable to Simon. An ENFP is a person in which displays characteristics of being extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving, things that correlate to my personality. However, there are many ways that I describe myself as a human being, but these are most prevalent to Simon.
“People don’t change, they just reveal who they really are.” -Unknown. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding tells the story of a group of boys who have crash landed on a deserted island. While being stranded, the boys slowly separate into two groups: Orderly boys and Savages. The savage boys slowly get rid of any of the boys who want rescue. Ironically, in the end of the story, the savage boys accidentally signal rescue by setting all of the island on fire. Throughout the novel, Golding explores the idea of when individuals are faced with a trying situation, people will change and try to make others comfortable in the situation, try to find a way out of the situation, or turn to savagery and murder.
In 'Lord of the Flies' by William Golding a group of schoolboys are stranded on a tropical island with no adults. Tensions rise as the leader of the choir Jack Merridew derives into savagery which in turn, degrades the others, turning them more savage and leads to the death of Simon. Golding successfully shocks the reader with Simon’s death through techniques such as the characterisation of Simon.
All through the novel of Lord of The Flies, Ralph strongly shows “hope” and “goodness”. Since the beginning, when they first arrived on the island, Ralph had always been one of the few people to keep his head high about the situation they all happened to be in. He constantly had hope that they were going to be rescued and had a trait of goodness shown in him which made everyone vote for him to be chief.
Predators, when they are young, frolicking with siblings and commodities in their environment, they try to hunt the insects in the air, leaping and pawing at them. As predators grow, they unknowingly begin to learn the skills to hunt until the day that they make their first successful kill, in the same way children learn to master a game. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the is the lust for death being quenched when Jack and the other hunters kill a pig for the first time, which drives the plot of the novel as an allegory themed text. Portraying to readers that somewhere deep inside of us there is a beast tucked away, and when the right circumstances arise it may show itself. Though Jack at first finds it hard to kill like a young animal, when he finally does kill the pig he feels accomplished and powerful. From there, he continues the hunt in the novel because of its impact on the text as a whole.
A meaningful change in William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies demonstrates how conflict between members of society can lead to the loss of rules and the breakdown of civilisation. He uses the act of hunting to illustrate this meaningful change that significantly affects Jack, one of the main character’s of the text. Golding uses themes and symbolism to assist readers in understanding how easily we can fall into savagery and become a monster or, more aptly in Jack’s case, a beast.
An Important aspect of being a great team is ensuring it has the right people with the right qualities and skills. The novel “Lord of The Flies” portrays a group of young boys trying to survive on a desolate island, a place deserted of humanity and in a state of bleak and dismal emptiness. In order to survive and establish civilization, everyone has to help and do what they can to improve their situation. From “Lord of The Flies” by William Golding, the three most useful characters for survival would be Ralph, because of his great leadership skills and focus on being rescued, Piggy because of his mental maturity and intelligence, and Simon, because of his helpfulness and wisdom.
