A person’s name is their most important characteristic and is often comprised of hidden significance and centurial “hand-me-downs”. When I was assigned to research my name, I had never thought of the importance of the name my parents had given me. As a child, I always found it annoying when my peers turned to snicker at me each time our church’s music minister asked for the congregation to stand and sing “Amazing Grace.” Each time I heard the song “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, there was always someone near to ask, “Hey, where is your lamb?” After conducting research, though, I began to find little things that made me more appreciative of my name.

     Then there’s me, Rosalind or Rose or Ross or Rosy, whatever. If you haven’t noticed that all my brothers and sisters names even my parents start with a “J”? It is easy to recognize a leader like LeBron James, the basketball star for the Cleveland Cavaliers, or JT Barrett, the starting quarterback and team captain for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Both James and Barrett motivate and drive their teams to work hard and strive to win. Not only am I a leader, but in many ways, I am also an extrovert. Being with people is something I truly enjoy and look forward to. What is a leader? A leader is a person who commands a group, organization, or country. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. I have experience democratic leaderships through playing on a high school football team, being apart of groups in college for class presentations, being a youth leader in my church, and also being apart of a family. I have gain important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. The first time I was told that I am a natural leader was by my 3rd grade basketball coach. She informed me of my ability to lead by example and stressed the importance of helping peers by showing them. This approach is as instinctual to me now as it was in 3rd grade. The value I held for leadership persisted throughout high school. I became captain of the volleyball team for two years and I obtained several leadership roles in clubs: I was co-president of Future Leaders of America, vice president of Key Club, tutor chairman of National Honors Society, a member of Student Council, and a mentor for incoming freshmen.

This is likely because, although I do agree with these descriptions and believe I am a leader, I enjoy putting forth the most effort as possible towards school and leadership. When I was the Vice president of student council in 6th grade I took great pride in my work and responsibility. I will take similar pride when I am a Junior Advisor. I love the meaning behind a person’s name and I love uncommon names because I feel they resonate more than names you hear more frequently. I named my son Chance because it was not a name commonly used and meant, “Having good fortune”. I still had the baby name book from when I was pregnant with my son and decided to finger through it looking for ideas. I came across the page where I had listed possible girl names that had caught my attention and at the top of the list was the name Halo. That was it! I searched the pages looking for the meaning behind the name and found it means, “Having a blessed aura.” She had been my halo from the beginning, before I even knew what I had or how lucky I was, the name was so fitting! I played around with many middle names trying to fit in which one sounded best after Halo and before Rae, which was to be her second middle name. Ultimately it was my youngest sister that suggested I try using Scarlett and Halo Scarlett Rae became the name I chose for
