The American Revolution was the uprising of the existing thirteen American colonies to gain independence from Britain in the mid 1700’s. The American colonists began questioning Britain’s authority as early as the French and Indian War. During the French Indian War, the colonies wanted to defend themselves against the French in North America. They asked King George for permission to raise armies in order defend themselves. Although their reason to raise an army was sincere, George II was suspicious of the intentions of the colonial government and disapproved their petition. After the French Indian War, Britain decided to raise money by taxing the American Colonists for reparations. Taxes such as the Stamp and Tea Acts created controversy …show more content…
The Proclamation of 1763 stated that all lands west of the Appalachian Mountains were off-limits to the colonists. The purpose of the proclamation was mainly to stabilize relations with Native North Americans through regulation of trade, settlement, and land purchases on the western frontier. On March 1765, Parliament passed the Quartering Act which stated that each colonial family must provide the basic needs of soldiers stationed within its borders and to give the soldiers certain items included bedding, cooking utensils, beer or cider. This law was expanded in 1766 and required the assemblies to station soldiers in taverns and unoccupied houses. American Colonist had to use their time and money in order to keep the soldier happy. Also, during this time period, the colonies did not have enough physical paper money to conduct trade because currency could only be obtained through trade as regulated by Great Britain. On September 1, 1764, Parliament passed the Currency Act, which gave Britain the control of currency in America. The act prohibited the issue of any new bills and the reissue of existing currency. Parliament was not inclined to regulate the colonial bills but simply abolished them. The colonies were against this because they suffered a trade deficit with Great Britain to begin with and argued that the
Shortly following the French and Indian War, the American Colonies were issued many taxes and laws, which were passed by Great Britain. The colonists believed that King George III was becoming more of a tyrant, and less like a king of England. These taxes and laws were believed to be very unfair in the eyes of the colonists, causing great conflict between Great Britain and the American Colonists. This conflict would ultimately lead to the American Revolution. The American Revolution was caused by numerous British taxes like the Tea Act, the Intolerable Acts, the Stamp Act, and the Quartering Act, resulting in resistance from the colonists.
The American Revolutionary war began in-part because of economic struggles England faced after securing safety for it’s colonies during the Seven Years War. England needed to increase their taxation on the colonists after the war to pay off its war debts. Prior to these taxes, the colonies were wholly content while under the wing of the British Empire. Not only because the protection the British provided, but also because of their deep reverence for the Motherland. Colonists were angered by with Parliament due to their lack of acknowledgement towards colonists rights and opinions. Colonists stood together in a defiant motion towards liberation from England’s tyrannous acts of lawless duplicity. Before British government was able to fully
There is a debate that has gone on for decades and is still without a definitive answer. That burning question is as follows: were the original Patriots justified in their cause for revolution? The obvious answer is yes, the Patriot cause for revolution was justified. This is for multiple reasons but there are three big ones. The first is that the 13 colonies were taxed very unfairly. This is because they had no one in parliament to represent them, so when they were taxed, they had no voice in it. The second reason is that there were multiple acts imposed upon the colonies that were unfair and borderline unethical. These include the intolerable acts, specifically the quartering acts, which violated what you and I see as basic rights. The third
The American Revolution is a historical event that led to who we are today as an independent country. Back in the mid 1700s, the French and Indian War broke out and ended in the year of 1763. The British are in a massive debt that would harm their economy if not fixed. To fix this, the British has set taxes for the colonists to help repay their debt as a fee for their protection. However, the British collected the tax in such a way that it would be unlawful.
The American Revolution consisted of elite Whites, Native Americans, and enslaved African Americans, but these ethnicities had a variety of different perspectives. These uncertainties lead to conflicts amongst minorities, women and the poor white working class of America all because they were left without any rights to their social status due to the Constitution.
The citizens are torn between who to support: The British or The Americans. In 1607, the British set off their ships to the land of what is known as America, in which the new Americans were promised a new life. However, as time went on and The British were in debt from the French Revolution, The British took their next step in taxing the Americans. The Americans were outraged and were rebelling, the smallest of objects were being taxed. The Americans believed that by colonizing in an entirely different country means that they should have their own government, thus, the American Revolution. The American Revolution should occurr because it is essential that the Americans were able to become their own country and learn to govern themselves without British help.
I think that it was unfair to the soldiers to have to stay there with basically nothing. The soldiers are also worried about their families having their needs. I think Teague has got a point and if other soldiers went home why couldn’t he?
The revolutionary era refers to the uprising of the common people against authority in the late 1700s. Great Britain ruled the American colonies for several years since 1607. The American Revolution came as a need from the American people for independence from Great Britain. This need for independence was stirred up by the enactment of the Stamp Act in American colonies by the British. American colonies were congenial to liberty and independence due to religion and other factors. The American people reacted to the stamp act with public resistance in the colonies. Therefore, the American revolutionary war was the result of the refusal to pay taxes, imposed on the colonists by British
Around 1763, Britain was in immense debt from funding the 7 Years War (French and Indian War). Britain was lacking revenue and they decided that the colonists were responsible to help them since they took part in the war as well.. Britain started taxing the colonists by enacting many different acts until 1776. Colonists did not think very highly of these taxations and believed it was an infringement of their rights to tax them without their consent. Eventually, Colonists became so resistant to British Rule, that the Independence Movement was started. Colonists were upset acts were being imposed on them without consent . Their resentment from trade regulations grew thus leading to rebellion. Colonists attempted reconciling
The American Revolution was about economic rights. After many things the colonists finally decided to rebel after these main things. Taxation without representation, Britain forbad the them to settle west of the Apache Mountains, and the colonists were forced to give the British soldiers supplies and shelters out of their own pockets, even though they did not want the soldiers there. Britain found herself in a large amount of debt, and one way to leave that debt is start making the colonies pay high duties.
The American Revolution arises when the British wanted to make money off of the colonists. Also by the French and Indian war leaving the British in debt, the Boston boycott imposed by merchants, and George Washington's protest, “No Taxation Without Representation”. Some goals include, ending mercantilism to mother country, people wanted a say in their government, to have a democracy, and independence. In result it was the first time a colony overthrew its mother country, Americans argued that they aren't offered the same rights. It started up new taxes and reverse salutary neglect policy, women of Boston refused to buy goods, and resolutions before Virginia House of Burgesses.
The American Revolution was the war between the county of Great Britain and its 13 colonial colonies. The war was not easy for the Americans, for the British had more money, soldiers, and firepower. However, the American army realized that the war couldn’t be won with by fighting the British head on. Rather, the American army strategically planned to lengthen the war, which would cost Great Britain thousands of dollars, and would force them to abandon their cause and except the colonists’ demands for independence. It worked. Great Britain realized that it would cost them more than it’s worth to keep fighting the colonist and decided to grant the colonies their independence. However, the revolution
The American Revolution was not just a war over independence but a political revolution that led to the separation between the colonies and Great Britain. The colonies were exhausted with all with acts that taxed them. Like the Revenue Act placed goods such as wool and hides, which had been previously trade freely with other European countries but now the trade had to go through England ending with high prices on the goods (Fonor 173). Moreover this created more issues one of them was not being able to buy from other cheaper trading goods companies and just relying on the high price on England goods an issue that was discussed in class on July 13. The revolution brought new changes to what has been a monarchical style of government over the
The American Revolution marks a significant event in American history in which the thirteen colonies fought for their independence against their mother country. Britain and the colonies fought together during the French and Indian War. Victory over the French was the reason that Colonists took great pleasure in being partners with the British. However, problems appeared when the war ended. A sequence of laws and taxes were forced upon the Colonists which triggered them to perform many rebellious acts against the British. The American Colonists were justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain because the British rejected peaceful negotiations, imposed unfair taxes, and mislead the Colonists into a false perception of security.
The American Revolution was one of the most important decisions in the United States History. It was a political upheaval, which happened between 1765 and 1783. In this time, the rebel colonists, which were in the Thirteen American Colonies, rejected the aristocracy and the British, Monarchy overthrowing the Great Britain authority. They then founded the United States of America. The battles of concord and Lexington signified the beginning of a war between the British and the colonists. The reason of the American Revolution was the fact that the members belonging to the American colonial society rejected the British Parliament authority intended to tax them. They resisted the British attempts, which had now been renewed intended to collect duties on commodities such as molasses and sugar that had gone for many years uncollected through widespread colonists smuggling.
