Steve Jobs and John “Johnny” Gunther Jr. faced seemingly unbelievable obstacles in life. Both had similar journeys and they both struggled to overcome them. They both drew motivation from certain things or certain people. Even though what both Jobs and Gunther had different obstacles, they both fought to overcome their difficulties. The books used in the essay are Steve Jobs the Man Who Thought Different by Karen Blumenthal and Death Be Not Proud by John Gunther. Steve Jobs was an orphan and was very defiant. Steve Jobs dropped out of college after his first semester. Jobs went to his friend, Steve Wozniak, for help on the now iconic Atari Breakout and they got $5,000. Wozniak proposed the idea of a computer that had a small monitor and keyboard connected to each other. Together, the duo formed Apple. Jobs and Wozniak had to find a way to have a monitor connected and still keep it condensed. They developed the computer for the only man who had believed in them. After Apple had taken off, Jobs’ board members fired him from his own company. When Apple started to fail, Jobs came back and turned the company around. Jobs developed cancer in his pancreas. When he had surgery to eliminate it, they found that it had spread to the liver. He underwent chemotherapy. Jobs struggled to keep the delicate balance between his health and his company. But until his death, he was incredibly level headed and never gave up. Johnny was interested in science more specifically chemistry. Throughout his entire journey, he remained brave and humorous as his parents got more and more concerned as his condition worsened. Johnny tried so many alternative treatments and surgeries. Johnny and his family were ecstatic when one alternative treatments had seemingly reduced the tumor. Johnny had gotten much better. Then suddenly, his condition had come back and it came back fiercely. Soon after, Johnny passed
In 1974, Steve Jobs was a video game designer for Atari but he knew he was destined for greater. In 1976, when Jobs was 21, he started Apple Computer with Wozniak. He took a break at one time and traveled to India and experimented with psychedelic drugs. Steve Jobs had to sell his car for the greater good of his company. In 1980, Apple Computer had a market value of $1.2 billion. In 3 years, Apple Co. sales increased by 700%. Steve Jobs took Apple and ran with
The initial ideas of Jobs can be seen in different aspects of the designs of all computers today, although maybe not blatantly obvious the ground work is there. Which pushed the team of “Jobs and Wozniak to improve and refine their design … ushering in the era of the personal computer” (Steve). The continual re-design of software, ergonomic design, unexpected failures, and leading internal technology influenced, and pushed other companies to continually re-invent designs to allow for more competition in the industry. Although the co-creators thought they had a perfect road to success, disadvantage always come along. “Apple’s shine was starting to wear off, which increased competition” (Steve). There is always that moment where the time for fame comes to a halt and Steve Jobs’ was not immune to failure. Ideas are not always right, practical and/or good and at one point Jobs was ousted from Apple because of this. The designs of the computer and market was soon becoming so competitive both in the retail world and within companies for the money which required a solution in order to not lose to many
Steve Jobs was known for wanting so badly to redesign the future of technology and computers in the future. But, with great power, comes great responsibility. Steve Jobs faced many challenges in his life. Some of the challenges he faced were not being wanted by his birth parents, struggling with Pancreatic Cancer, and getting fired from the company that he created. Jobs, however, overcame these challenges, and led the world into a new era of technology.
Steve Jobs founded Apple Inc. at the age of 21, three years later his brand was world famous and he was widely known as a fascinating pioneer in the computer revolution transforming “one industry after another, from computers and smartphones to music and movies” In 1985, following an internal power struggle with his board of directors, Jobs was fired and left the company and founded NeXT which was a computer platform development company and would become responsible for the NeXTSTEP platform which was the basis for the Mac OS X and Pixar. In 1996, Apple was facing bankruptcy so Jobs returned as CEO and saved the company. At Stanford University’s 2005 Commencement, Steve Jobs said, "The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life." And he added, "I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful-tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it." When Jobs left Apple it was a life-changing event, but it made him go back to what he was good at - being a creative innovator, it was about going back to the beginning and finding the way to remake his success. He knew he had become too comfortable and needed to be pushed back into action. This is just like a woman’s body when she is about to deliver a baby, her body tells her she should
“Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them.” (Jobs) Steve Jobs was born in sunny San Francisco, California in 1955. Throughout his childhood Steve Jobs was always independent and worked with himself. That was until he met his partner Steve Wozniak and created the first Apple computer in a garage. Although he left the company Apple in 1985 but returned a decade later. Sadly, Steve Jobs died in the year of 2011 and was a devastating loss. Steve Jobs and his many companies were extraordinarily influential and successful due to his innovative products and software.
Life can be a roller coaster ride sometimes and not many people have experienced such swings as Steve Jobs. In the early part of his life, Steve was a college dropout and then founded the Apple Computer company and made millions, only to be fired by a man who he hired as the companies CEO. Years later, he was brought back to Apple and led the company through a period of incredible expansion and growth.
Steve Jobs started the world-famous Apple technology firm in 1979. After a hiatus from the firm between 1985 and 1997, Jobs returned to lead the company toward global domination. His innovations reinvented how companies, including health care enterprises, conduct business. Business leaders from all discipline regard Mr. Jobs as a
Even more, he took the company through stages of developing computers, iPod, iPad, and iPhone. Sadly, Steve Jobs was diagnosed with cancer. And despite doctors’ recommendation that he refrain from any stressors, he did not adhere to this recommendation because of his obsession and commitment to inventing better technology devices. Ultimately, Steve Jobs lost his battle to cancer and met his untimely demise, leaving the world of technology incredibly saddened. Steve had a very futuristic vision. When Apple built Macintosh, it didn’t meet the expectations of people in an ecstatic manner. It didn’t conquer the pool of profits as anticipated. Steve Jobs’s vision was so innovative that he used to think about things that would be desired by consumers in the next 10 years. He wanted to make a better future and for that purpose, he worked hard in the present.
When people think of Steve Jobs they are reminded of the man who led Apple to be the most profitable company in the world. Jobs proved his ability to be an effective leader, although his methods were sometime questioned, over a sustained period of time. During his tenure with Apple Computer as CEO, Steve Jobs was part of the leadership that created a steady stream of insanely great products: the Apple II, the original Macintosh computer, and later the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. He also helped revolutionize the way we buy music through iTunes and
Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in San Francisco California (“Biography”). He was adopted by a young couple, and worked on electronics with his father in the garage as a young boy, taking apart and reconstructing equipment (“Biography”). Surely this added to his passion and knowledge of improving electronic equipment. Even though he was a very intelligent child, he suffered in school, which seemed boring and unnecessary to him (“Biography”). Not understanding the importance of strict rules and school regulations, Jobs often misbehaved and was consequently suspended from school fairly often; he was even expelled from elementary school (Young and Simon 10). It was not until his fourth grade teacher bribed Jobs to get him to do his work that he realized the importance of school, discipline, and what one needs to do to be successful in life. After this realization, he continually increased his performance in school and
Steve Jobs career began in a blink of an eye. He was well known for all his amazing products such as apple 1, apple 2, mackintosh, etc. He also purchased an animation company from George Lucas, which later became Pixar Animation Studios. He invested money into the company out of his own pocket. The studio went on to produce popular movies. Jobs had many people help him build what he has today especially with the help of Steve Wozniak (Steve, n.d.). Together they changed the computer industry. Jobs was very successful but like everyone else he had to start from nothing and his company made billions when he was just 21. He has an amazing story to tell about his life, career, and how he left a big impact in the computer industry.
Steve dropped college after only one semester and started to take a few part time jobs. In 1975, he worked for a video/computer company but suddenly decided for a 7 months trip to India in search of spiritual enlightenment. He came back to the US and started to experiment with psychedelics and according to a book, Steve called his LSD experiences “one of the two or three most important things done in my life.” After experimenting, he went back to the video/computer company and worked there once again. Steve and his computer friend Stephen Wozniak shared the same passion for computers and after they assembled their first computer, Apple Computer Company was born. The company was born in Steve´s garage 1976, and they continued to build several computers. People were hired, upgrades to bigger
But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains” (para. 3). Despite this notoriously simple view of life and dedication to a focused mindset, Lashinsky (2011) claims that Jobs was also known as a forceful leader who oversaw nearly every aspect of the happenings at Apple. Lashinsky (2011) states that those who were close to Jobs claimed that he acknowledged that he held the power at Apple, but that he claimed he was not the only one who could, likely in reference to the losing battle he fought with cancer before his death in 2011. Jobs is quoted as saying, “Single-cell organisms aren’t interesting, Apple is a complex, multicellular organism” (Lashinsky, 2011, para. 29). This points out that while he believed in a strong head of company, he did not believe he always had to be that head for Apple to succeed.
Steve jobs was an innovative mastermind with visions that helped change the world. His mission statement simple yet sophisticated, “To make a contribution to the world by making tools for the mind that advance humankind” (Jobs, 1980). His obsessiveness, focus and passion for creativity has been turned into distinct procedures that allows Apple to deliver a steady line of products - with or without him.
Steve Jobs was feared by many and envied by few, yet at the end of his days he was loved by all. Jobs wasn’t always so gifted and talented and certainly had to work hard for his work. Jobs was adopted as a baby to a lower middle class couple and actually didn’t care about school. It was in fourth grade that his teacher had to bribe him in order for him to get the grades to sufficiently pass. He used this incentive as motivation to not only pass the fourth grade but to even skip the fifth grade and move on straight through middle school. After being fed up with being bullied for being the smart kid, Jobs moved to Los Altos. There he began his love for electronics which only further increased after meeting what would be his lifelong friend Steve Wozniak.
