Joan of Arc was a powerful military leader and a skilled warrior. Now St Joan of Arc is considered a saint and a martyr. The influence left by Joan’s life was an inspiration to all. France was forever changed by the empowering presence of Joan.

For Joan of Arc, 1428 was the start of a new life and journey. In the May of that year, Joan makes her first trip to Vacouleurs to meet with Robert de Baudricourt asking him to send her to the king. He had initially rejected her but her strong willingness to pursue what she wanted led to her attracting a small group of followers who believedthat she truly was destined to save France according to a prophecy. Baudricort finally gave in to her and she set out to Chinon, the site of the prince’s fortress. With the help of Charles, she led an army to Orleans in March of 1429 wearing white armor on her white horse. Joan had led several French attacks and drove the Anglo-Burgundians from their fortess and forced them to leave and cross the Loire River.

After ending a war that had lasted for over a century, the young French hero, Joan of Arc, was tried and executed by the English for heresy when she was only nineteen. Growing up as a peasant in Pucelle, France, she heard voices which she thought to be the voice of God. Later she was told by these voices to fight for the French, and ended up playing a major role in the Hundred Years War between France and England. She led an army to liberate the city of Orleans and won over Patay, which allowed Charles VII to be crowned King of France. Nearing the end of the war, she was captured by the English, tried for heresy, and was burned at the stake when she was nineteen. Born to a farmer and his devoutly Catholic wife on January 6, 1412, Jehanne d’Arc also known as Joan of Arc was from a small farmland in France known as Domremy. Joan had a normal childhood. She lived as a peasant girl until the year 1424. At this time Joan was having dreams and visions of different Saints, Saint Margaret, Saint Catherine, and Saint Michael, just to name a few. The Saints all had the same message for her, they all told her that she needed to help King Charles VII get rid of the English who were trying to take over France. This would become to be known as the “Hundred Years War”. (historynet, 2015)

The middle ages in Europe was a dark time to live in. Trade and travel was not safe, people were dying of sickness, most people could not even read or write. Some people, however became heroes and role models during these dark times. One of these people was Joan of Arc. Joan had special abilities, led an army into battle, and became one of the most well known women in history.

“Do you know if you are in the grace of god?” They asked Joan during her trial for heresy and witchcraft. “If I am not, may God place me there; if I am, may God so keep me. I should be the saddest in all the world if I knew that I were not in the grace of God,” She told her accusers. “But if I were in a state of sin, do you think the Voice would come to me? I would that everyone could hear the Voice as I hear it…”(Pettinger). With her faith, determination and patriotism Joan of Arc proved herself as one of the most influential female leaders of her time.

Imagine living in a male dominated world -- it was the man’s job to go to war and fight for their kingdom -- whereas females were looked at as the inferior sex. In that time period a woman’s role was to solely stay home, bare children, and take care of the household. Flipping the switch Jeanne d’Arc did what no woman would dare to do in the early 1400’s. Joan of Arc has become one of the most respected individuals of the history of Europe. She is a national heroine from France who has become recognized because of her heroic achievements through her actions during wartime, faith and spirit, and her incredible influence on the men of that era.

What makes a individual honorable is a personal interpretation, however there are many qualities that society as a whole widely accepts as honorable characteristics. These characteristics include but are not limited to, honesty, respect and compassion for self and others, courtesy, and kindness. To sum, to be honorable means to do the right thing, even if it may not directly benefit the person, or even inconvenience them.

Today marks the anniversary of Joan of Arc born 550 years ago. Joan was a young peasant girl born Jeanne d’Arc but known as Joan of Arc. She was born in 1412 from a small village named Domremy in France, where she grew up learning how to sew, do household chores and mind cows under a harsh disciplinary father - Jaques d’Arc and a highly religious mother –Isabelle Romee. Her mother made sure as a young girl she was instilled with a deep love for the Catholic Church and its teachings.

There are varying perspectives on Joan of Arc, all of which could be considered ‘real’. Her existence and achievements have been exaggerated and distorted throughout history. The only aspect of Joan that has remained constant is her image as a symbol of nationalism and pride. Popular representations of Joan of Arc include the portrayal by Mark Twain’s biography ‘Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc’, Joan as an icon of ultra-nationalism by French political leaders, and ‘The Song of Joan of Arc’ by Christine de Pizan. Through these different perspectives, it is evident that multiple portrayals of Joan of Arc exist throughout history and there is not one ‘real’ Joan; these perspectives all hold

Leadership encompasses the world around us, and is seen in some shape or form every single day. Without it, there would be no sense of direction for anyone, people would be lost. Leaders are those who take initiative to do what others won’t. Those who strive to make a difference in our ill directed world and guide those who need to be guided, or pushed, further than they deem themselves capable. Leadership doesn’t take enormous physical strength or even a booming voice. All it takes is a strong mind, full heart, and a purpose.

Leading has a great impact in the world today. Its hard to find a good leader today simple because you have so many people out here that a fack. Leadership has had a great impact on many different people lives here in the world today. I like the leaders that are around me. People in the world today look for leaders when it comes to directions, guides and motivations. The leaders that impact my life were people in ministry.

A: Joan of Arc was born on January 6th, 1412. Her parents were Jacques d’Arc and Isabel d’Arc. They lived in a village in Dormery, France. She was not taught to read or write but with the influence of her mother, she developed a deep love for the Catholic Church. Joan of Arc by Mary Gordon is a biography of Joan of Arc, who was a heroine of France who lived from 1412 to 1431. Joan was born in a small village in France in 1412 to a peasant family. Joan believed from a young age that God had chosen her specifically to be the lead in her country, England's, fight to victory in the Hundred Year’s War. These visions from God led her to leaving her family behind and somehow convincing the Dauphin to allow her to suit up and lead a French army to Orleans to battle. She became victorious in this battle and helped to crown the Dauphin Charles, as she had promised him. After this victory, Joan’s reputation began to be known among French forces. On her next travel to become involved in a Burgundian assault on Compiégne, she was taken captive by the Burgundians. She was thrown from her horse and left outside of the town’s gates while attempting to protect the town. The Burgundians held her captive for months as they attempted to arrange a deal with the English for Joan. They wanted ten thousand francs in trade for her return home. Charles VII did not comply and have Joan released because of his lack of faith in her potential so, the Burgundians turned Joan over to church officials, who tried her as a heretic. Joan was charged with approximately 70 counts of crimes such as dressing as a man, witchcraft, and heresy. She was then burned at the stake.

The nightmare of an innocent, 19-year-old girl standing in the mists of deadly flames is an awful sight. It was quite unfortunate for the young child to be forced to pay the ghastly consequence. However, this young girl by the name Joan of arc is an inspiring hero who has provided confidence in young women like herself.
