HOW TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD ESSAY Atticus Finch is one of the most influential literary characters in the book ‘How to Kill a Mockingbird’ this essay is going to demonstrate the reasons why Atticus is a good father, with three attributes he has explained in detail. Atticus treats his children with respect and like he would with adults. Numerous times, he makes sure slowly as the kids mature that, they are aware of the towns events. Lets them know like he would a normal friend of his he wants them to know and talks about the issues with them present, because of his lawyer stance he is able to treat everyone fair and that’s what he does on numerous occasions with the children. Numerous examples during the book state that Atticus is fair, from the lawsuit to how he treats Mrs Dubose and everyone in the county. In the lawsuit, Atticus does everything he can to prove Bob and Mayella guilty. Atticus wants to make sure that Tom Robinson is seen as a man and someone equal. Atticus makes sure that everyone that stood for trial was given a chance to speak because in this era, that the book is set in was severe racism, he was not given a chance to speak and all the jury thought is that the white person is right and the black person is wrong. The kids were not right to be using him as an object of fear or something to scare the children. Atticus sees no black or white “He just see’s it all as equal.” He treats other “lesser” human beings and characters with more importance than they are given by the rest of the county and public. During this, he also sets a new moral for his children that will change them throughout the novel, with their fairness towards other humans they come across. When the kids were playing games about Boo he stopped them immediately using him as a bad object, he makes them make sure that they never speak bad of Boo again and you find out later on in the book that he is not a scary
