Instructional Assistant Position

I love working with kids, I have my Elementary Teaching Certification for grades K-6 from Ramapo College of New Jersey. Similarly, from July to August 2014 I worked as a Teachers Aide at Ramapo Explorers: STEM CAMP, providing a positive and supportive classroom management system for middle school students. From March 2014 to August 2014 I worked at Golden Steps Learning Center where I was a Teachers Assistant. My responsibilities included: composing a lesson plan and assisting the teacher on their lesson. Then from June to August 2015 I was a Teachers Assistant at the Goddard School. Hello my name is Andrea Mangrum from Virginia. I am an Instructional Assistant (SPED) in the public school system. I am pursing a degree in Special Education here at Liberty University. My plan is to eventually get my Masters in Education and become a License Special ED teacher. Married for twenty-one years, two children Walter and Mercedes. Three awesome and beautiful grandchildren. This is it, my last class before graduation going to finish strong and it was all worth it class of 2017.

I interviewed an Instructional Aide that I work with at Cottonwood Elementary. Her name is Marcela and she works with the Kindergartners. She moved from Argentina to New York when she was 3 years old and her first language was Spanish. Her mother put her in preschool when she turned 5, to help her learn English. Marcela shared with me that when she went to school she felt very sad, disconnected and was constantly looking for other children that spoke Spanish. She did find a girl who spoke Spanish and she became “buddies’ with her. The girl that she befriended would help her by translating everything the teacher would say, which was all in English. Marcela said she was speaking English by Kindergarten, but she must have had a strong accent because they put in her in speech

I am extremely excited to be applying for the 2017 Instructional Assistant summer session position. I see this as not only a job, but a great opportunity to gain hands on experience within the field of special education. I currently attend Old Dominion University and major in speech pathology & audiology, with a minor in special education. I have two more semesters to complete before I graduate and attend graduate school. I have completed all of my special education classes and I have a total of 3 more speech classes to complete. Therefore, I am familiar with special education, communication disorders, assistive technology, and individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.

I am applying for the world language( Spanish ) teacher assistant position opening up this coming Spring. I feel that I would be an excellent candidate for this position because in my past experiences I have work in many different fields. Such as customer services associate, Day Camp counselor and as a Teacher assistant at a small private school called Chesterbrook Academy located in Glassboro NJ. I have also work at a warehouse which includes long hours and a lot of discipline similar to this position I am applying for. This position appeals to me because I am a hardworking woman with a lot of integrity that enjoys working with children. I am suitable to adjustment and a people person. I am very communicative and social. I take my work seriously.

This week reading has brought back memories of when I was in high school and my first day I started my job as an Instructional Aide. In high school, I was the student sitting in the back of the class hoping the teacher would not call on me to read aloud. I have always struggled with reading comprehension and reading aloud.
